A day in the life of a clutz

Skittles absolutely loved horses. She figured it was probably because the large creatures were so graceful. So when she heard that there was a stable near by, she rushed to visit the horses.

When she got to the stables, she was excited to see all of the horses. Particularily a very nice black one. However, in her excitement, and lack of attention to where exactly her feet were taking her. And where her feet were taking her, was directly into a pole.

There was a solid thud when she ran into it, and she promptly toppled backwards. "Owwww... Who's stupid idea was it to put poles in this place?" she questioned the air, moving her hand over her forehead and fixing the scrape that had proptly arrived.

She rubbed her forehead thoughtfully, and stood again. She poked the pole. "That was mean." she whispered confidentially to it, before quickly glancing around to be sure that nobody had seen her horrible display of clutzyness.

She brushed the dirt and..errr.. other stuff, off of her jeans with a sigh. She'd long since given up on the neat and tidy look. It just didn't stay that way. And now her head hurt.

She grumbled, momentarily forgetting where exactly she was, and entirely forgetting the black horse, whose beauty had caused her unfortunate fall in the first place.

Ember had drifted off by accident inside one of the horse stables, and was surprised she wasn't covered in horse droppings the moment she woke up. It was a thud that had awoken her form her light nap. So, she popped out over the wooden gate and looked around.

There, standing in front of a pole rubbing her head was a girl. Ember didn't know her but she wanted to know her. She stood up and brushed off what she could of the clingy hay and hopped out of the stable and tripping over it as she (tried to) swing over it. She landed on the ground with a loud thud, but quickly got up and wiped off the dirt acting as if nothing embarrassing had just happened.

As gracefully as she could, Ember walked over to the girl and cleared her throat. "Hey, I'm Ember."

Skittles glanced at the other girl. Something about Ember made her feel comfortable. Probably it was the entrance she'd made. "Hi. I'm Skittles." she said softly, praying that the other didn't make fun of her name.

She smiled tentatively. She could try and be friendly, but her head hurt like the dickens now. She nibbled on her pinky nail out of habit, though when she realized what she was doing, she immediately stuck the culrpit hand into her pocket. "Err...." she said intelligently.

She wasn't so good with the conversation making. "Umm...." she though alloud, trying desperatly to come up with SOMETHING that could make conversation. "Do you ride?" she questioned lamely, and immediately kicked herself mentally for her inability to sound intelligent.

Ember smiled as the girl introduced herself. Skittles? What a unique and different name. "It's nice to met you Skittles. That's a really cool name by he way."

She looked around, while there was one of those awkward silences when trying to think of conversation. She could tell Skittles was thinking of something to say, and Ember did the same by biting her bottom lip while she thought.

Ember gave a loud sigh a relief when Skittles asked her if she rode. She felt embarrassed for the loud sigh, but she said, "Yeah, I used to ride all the time back home....what about you?"

Skittles smiled awkwardly. "Thanks. I don't know what my parents were thinking." she twiddled the thumbs in an attempt to control her nervous energy.

She nodded. "Yeah. I don't ride quite as well as I want to, because I just started lessons last year. Do you ride English or Western? I do both." she forced herself to stop talking before she started rambling.

The inner her was flailing and telling her to be more outspoken, but she didn't listen, and remained in her calm, collected shell. She did like this girl. A good feeling came from her. It was relaxing. But her head was still killing her.

She shrugged and smiled back at Skittles. She liked Skittles. Skittles was good people. Ember leaned against the post that her new acquaintance had just run into and looked at the black horse nearby.

"Yeah, me neither. I haven't ridden a horse since i got here actually.." Ember thought for a moment. How did she ride? She had absolutely no idea. "Um...I really don't know actually...." She confessed, smiling awkwardly. Ember wanted to just smack herself for not remembering how she rode horses. It couldn't have been that long since the last time she'd gone riding, could it?

Skittles grinned and the shrugged. "No worries. Not that it really matters. English is just annoying 'cause the saddles aren't as comfortable." she remarked easily. With the sudden realization that this girl was very much like her, her hiding was slipping a bit.

The black horse whinied at her, and she spun around, promptly whacking her hand on the pole she'ed run into earlier. She hopped around for a moment, shaking her hand, and then proceeded th heal it, before moving over to the black horse as though nothing had happened. She stroked his neck. "Hey sweetie. Sorry I forgot about you." she proceeded to offer the horse a carrot, which he gladly took, and crunched on.

"Oh...okay." Ember had totally forgotten about riding English or Western, so part of her - more like the majority - had no idea what Skittles meant, but she kept quiet.

She couldn't help but give a small snort of laughter as Skittles whacked her hand against the pole by accident because of the horse. "Sorry...are you okay?" She asked immediately and got closer to Skittles to see if her hand was broken or something.

She watched as Skittles went up to the black horse and talked to it in a manner that made it look like the horse was hers. "Is he your horse? He's very beautiful."
