Awe... that was what Zora felt watching Jude emptying his clip into the target. She had thought he was probably good at shooting. His knowledge of guns, the way to handle them, everything had led her to believe that he had some talent or was good with firearms. But seeing him now in action, made Zora realise that he was not just "good" - he was extremely good at shooting. Had a natural affinity for it she suspected.

"That - was amazing," Zora said as she looked at her PA with a wide grin. "Where did you learn to shoot like that?" she asked as she eyed the target, most of his shots had been dead, or almost, dead on centre.

God, he missed it. He missed it so much, but short of convincing Officer Genovese to take him shooting regularly, the whole thing was out of his hands for another ten months.

"My father taught me," Jude explained. "I got self defense training when I was young, and when I was old enough he took me down to the range. At the start it was just us, but eventually he was too busy, and I got handed off to one of his men. It was a regular thing for me, and then I started practicing on my own. We had guns around the house, and the last thing my father was going to risk was me finding one an accidentally shooting myself."

His father had been really big on gun safety.

"I had to learn to make sure I could protect myself. Not so much other people, but I picked that up later. I got a lot of practice doing the whole hero thing. Everyone else had powers, but I made do with gadgets and weapons."

"You are very talented, Jude... extremely skilled, I'm guessing..." Zora said as she looked at his target and then compared it to the rest of the people's around them. Yes, few of the people had hit the target as well as he had.

At the powers comment, Zora looked at Jude. "Powers cannot always get a people out of a bind and depend on many variables. Guns, well, weapons can hurt both magical and non-magical creatures and don't depend on as many variables as magic does. Honestly, you are probably luckier than you think..." she said, thinking about her own powers and how they were so erratic now that it was like she didn't have them.

"Guns are just the same," Jude said. "They're just a power of sorts. They have flaws. Weaknesses. The ones I had were adaptable. Stun bullets, mostly, but then I upgraded to a specialized gauntlet that fired projectiles. Nets, things like that. Useful, but I preferred the form factor of a gun."

He'd never quite gotten over it.

"You should take another turn. Try and focus on not flinching. It's a normal thing for your aim to get worse as you practice shooting the first time, and that's entirely down to flinching."

Zora looked at Jude with some uncertainty. "I'll try not to flinch, but it's rather difficult... The shots keep vibrating up my arm and the kickback... well, that was not expected," she admitted as she took the gun from Jude, placed herself in the same position as before. This time when she fired, she actually did it a bit slower, maintaining her aim each time, so she could control everything a bit better.

When the clip was empty, Zora noticed that it was a little better than before. This time all her shot had actually hit the target, even if there were varying degrees of success in hitting the centre.

It was difficult to not flinch. Really, it was one of the big things people had to learn, something that no amount of mental preparation would handle. It was going to just take time and effort.

"You did better that time," Jude said once she'd pulled back. "Still room to improve. You probably want to shoot... say, three more rounds. By then you'll be good and sore, and more then ready to go home and collapse into bed. If you want to do this regularly, we can--I kind of miss going to the range, honestly, and it'll be good practice for you."

It felt familiar, and that sort of familiarity was good. He'd keep putting Zora through her paces, only finishing up once she was exhausted.

He was a good trainer, but he sure as hell wasn't being nice.
