To Kal the way he said it was so awkward. She couldn't say it upset her, but she'd been born to a selfless kind of family, as far as she'd ever been concerned. What was the point of her taking advantages that ruined the overall wellbeing of things?

"Yeah, I was thinking about that too," she admitted, trying to recall where she was with her questions. God, he was distracting. Kal was starting to see how Havoc had managed though. There was a certain appeal in that level of bluntness.

Havoc had also been born to a selfless kind of family--it just hadn't quite stuck. He lacked the required empathy to really understand it. His parents probably considered it one of their greater failings to him, but they'd done a good enough job establishing the general reasons why Havoc wouldn't want to do bad things that he had no interest in lawbreaking or truly antisocial behavior.

"Whichever would work," Havoc pointed out simply, direct to the very end. "Neither poses a significant advantage over the other. One simply oversees the council, while the other handles far more numbers as it oversees the student body. Mostly clubs. Neither is a glamorous position, but if you aim to improve things, either of those would be ideal, as they tend to be saddled with someone incompetent. Few people can handle that sort of accounting."

"Heh, yeah," and Kal could feel the awkwardness of this conversation settling in the pit of her stomach. Okay. She had to calm down, ask her next question.

Kal cleared her throat and gave a cursory glance at the list in her hands. "What was it like? Being o Student Council? Anything you didn't expect? Anything I should be aware of? I know that's a big 'if' but I like to be ready for the future."

Havoc really, really wasn't bothered by it. He didn't feel it was awkward at all. The entire conversation was totally normal for him, and he showed no sign of being bothered as he patiently answered her questions.

"Boring. There is minimal excitement on the student council. You can expect some attempt at bonding exercises, but you can also bet that there will be a minimal actual contact outside the council time. The council covers too wide a range for you to have much in common with your fellow members."

It ran the gamut from elementary all the way up to Masters students, and Havoc--who had a hard enough time relating to normal people--couldn't possibly hope to relate in any way to all of them.

Kal nodded, having figured as much. Still, he got to the point so quickly Kealani didn't have a chance to get any questions prepared next. She fumbled a little after he was finished speaking, again staring at her pad so she didn't have to stare at him.

"And how much power do we really have to change anything?" And Kal rubbed at her face with a free hand after asking the question. "Sorry, that was a.... stupid question."

Someoen else might have laughed at her naivete, but Havoc simply gave her the exact same expression he always did. The same one she'd get if she asked the weather, or for his name, or what two plus two came out to.

"Very little," Havoc said simply, having absolutely zero interest in leading her along or commenting on how foolish her question was or wasn't. "On the small scale, like spearheading the self defense program, you can absolutely make changes assuming you can explain the need for them. On the grander scale, you have no real ability to effect change. Student government, not real government."

They were just kids, after all.

"The student council allows even elementary school students to be involved, after all."

One more, Kal told herself. She just had to stop feeling like this. She wasn't bothered by him at first, but the longer she stood here the harder it felt to breathe or focus on anything but a mantra in her head telling her to walk away. Run away. Go, go, go.

He didn't have to comment that it was a stupid question, Kal knew. "That — Yeah. Figures. But you all seemed to have done enough good. I don't think any of us expects to change the entire school. Just anti-bullying programs, quality of life things."

Havoc was blissfully, woefully unaware that he was effecting Kal in that way. If someone had asked, he would have said they were having a perfectly normal conversation. He simply wasn't able to read subtle cues like discomfort. Even if someone pointed it out, he'd have struggled to realize.

He nodded at the sort-of-compliment, relaxed as could be despite the serious nature of the conversation.

"If you intend to focus on anti-discrimination viewpoints, I would choose something tangible. To prove you made a difference, you have to be able to point to a metric so that you can say 'my decision changed that'. I can point at enrollment rates in the self defense course, for example. Bullying is harder to track."

Even though Kal had said they were focused on doing things for the greater good, Havoc's mindset hadn't significantly changed.

Kal nodded hesitantly. It was actually a good point. Anti-bullying was the first thing that had come to her mind, so she'd just blurted it out, but Kal wasn't entirely sure what, exactly, she would attempt to change. Havoc make a good point. She was doing this out of the goodness of her heart, but that didn't mean she couldn't get the extra credit, too.

"Well, I appreciate all your help. I should get going. I have to put up posters and all that. Have a good day, mister Havoc. I'll try not to bother you too much throughout the elections if I have any further inquiries!"

Havoc was not interested in platitudes. He wanted solutions. He wanted answers. Saying you wanted to prevent bullying was completely useless to him, with no value at all, and until she could come up with a solution, none of it mattered.

"Of course," Havoc said, giving Kal a small nod as she excused herself. He didn't really have a strong opinion of her at all, but he did feel satisfied he'd done his work for the elections.
