"Don't worry...The idea is to just have fun. That is really what dancing is all about," Violet remarked as she waited patiently for him to take the lead. She was quite used to entertaining and dancing with inexperienced partners and so she just followed his lead easily, adapting herself as much as she could to his steps and his movements, keeping time with the music around them. As they moved around the ballroom, Violet ignored the other dancers, focusing her attention on her partner instead.

"So tell me, why the nickname Orange Grin?" she asked him with a smile, "Most people here are some variation of Mister Darkness, Lady something or another, Prince Charming, Princess Snow White or Miss Weatherby..." she joked, exaggerating a little though not much, some of the party-goers that evening had truly chosen outlandish names for themselves.

Violet was really good at dancing. She did indeed seem to have plenty of experience, and that was not a bad thing since Orange Grin hadn't been to too many parties like this. Certainly not any that used masks. He too ignored the other dancers, except to avoid running into them.

He laughed at the names she listed off. Whether or not they were all in use, it did seem like people were really playing things up. "It's kind of simple I guess. I'm wearing a lot of orange and I smile a lot. I'm here to have fun and hopefully spend time with nice mysterious strangers. If I meet someone my age, great, if not i'll still have fun."

As he tried very hard to pull off a spin, he kept his eyes on her masked face. "I'd ask you the same about your nickname but," he grinned, "I'd rather ask about what brings you to this nice ball. Do you just like dancing and getting all dressed up?"

Violet listened and then smiled at his explanation. It made sense, it was very literal, but it made much more sense than somebody randomly calling themselves Princess Swallowtail or Lady Heavenly.

"Well, I am here tonight mainly because I wanted to attend a masked ball. Although, I also adore dressing up and one of my favourite things in life is dancing..." she told Orange Grin as she let him spin her, twirling once as she came to stand facing him on the dance floor as people moved around them while they danced.

"Are you new to the island by chance," Violet asked curiously her eyes flickering to his unusual choice of hair colour, knowing that there were not pink haired individuals, at least of his age, living on the island.

"I very rarely wear fancy stuff like..." and he glanced down at the goofy velvet tuxedo he was wearing with a giggle, "... some of the people here. But everyone is so pretty tonight. Maybe I should change that. I like dancing, I just don't actually do that very often either."

His eyes lit up when the twirl went off without a hitch. Maybe, he thought, he should try to sign up for some dance classes. It would be exhausting but it might be fun.

"I've been here about four months or so now, so new-ish? But no, i'm not from the island originally," he replied as they made their way in small circles on the dance floor. "What about you? Have you been here a while?"

"A little longer than that, about seven months, maybe eight now," Violet stated as she thought back to the moment she had arrived on Manta Carlos island.

"And I am not from the island either," she told Orange Grin as they now moved a bit more effortlessly around the room. "I am from out there," gesturing with her head to the world beyond the island.

"Oh, I kinda want to see what the rest of the world is like someday. But only when I have someone to go with me." He wasn't about to do something so dangerous without a person to help keep him safe. And of course traveling with other people would be more fun too.

"Really I'm from a different world, so a lot of things are new to me here. It's nice feeling like just a teenager sometimes," he said as he glanced around briefly at the other dancers. He was keeping up with the dancing but he was starting to look just the tiniest bit tired. Even with his very light body dancing was a fair amount of physical activity.

"The outside world is a very interesting place in its own way," Violet said as they danced, noting the change in her partner, feeling his very slight fatigue. "It's not like here, people don't use magic or their abilities. The unknown fascinates, but often scares them, or leaves them in awe or uneasy..." she stated matter-of-factly.

"Ahh... an alternative dimension, reality?" Violet inquired with interest as she looked at the young man with renewed interest. "I gather you had a lot of responsibility there?" she added, having caught the nice being a teenager comment. Feeling his tiredness again, Violet slowed her pace somewhat.

"Would you like to get something to drink and sit for a bit?" Violet asked, not wanting to put him on the spot, but sensing his ever-growing exhaustion, "I feel a bit overwhelmed by all the people around us," she added quite deliberately, giving him an excuse to stop dancing and rest.

He didn't want to give too much away about where he came from- it very likely could ruin the mystery of who he was. Of course probably anyone at the ball who knew him was going to put two and two together. It was still fun to try though. "Yeah, something like that. Things were kinda similar in some ways but very different too. For one, hiding my face would have been seen as very strange to do. For another, I was around a lot of people that weren't really my age most of the time," he admitted with a degree of embarrassment as he realized that he had continued that trend here at the Ball.

Orange Grin didn't notice the slowing of their pace too much, as Violet seemed to be able to change it easily and smoothly enough. But would have been extremely thankful if he had noticed. The part about taking a break though, he did notice. He was fairly sure Violet was giving him an excuse. She did not seem like the kind of person to be that bothered by the people around them. But a rest did sound good, he had to admit.

"I think maybe that would be good. I haven't tried any of the food or drinks here yet," he said as the song they had been dancing to began to end and he did a little bow. He very much appreciated her giving him an excuse so he didn't have to explain why he was getting tired from something so simple.

Still being gentlemanly though, he politely led Violet back towards where he had seen the refreshments table before.

"I understand," Violet nodded as she listened to his explanation about his former life. She now began yo wonder if, perhaps, he had been part of some noble family or a family that had a lot of social standing. His air was one of some sort of breeding, the way he talked and his politeness. It was funny how that part of her, her human experiences and court life training were still so acutely part of her.

"I haven't tried the food yet either. Although I have heard the caters are among the best on the island, so everything should be delicious," Violet said with a smile as she walked beside Orange Grin back to the refreshments tables.

"Would you care to join me at a table?" Violet asked him as she helped herself to a fancy napkin, handing Orange Grin one too for their food, gesturing to the half empty tables for guests to sit at and eat their canapes, chat or just relax between dances.

Violet seemed like a really kind person. She was being polite, sure, but she was also truly listening to him. That wasn't always the case, but he liked those kinds of people the best. Usually Orange Grin found himself being the listener.

He looked at the table as they approached and audibly inhaled. "Wow, it all looks amazing. I'm almost tempted to try one of everything," he giggled, "but then I think I wouldn't be able to do any more dancing tonight. That would be a shame."

In a way, despite the mask, he looked a little bit like a kid in a candy shop for a moment as he tried to figure out what to have. "Oh, yes I'll join you at a table," he replied as he accepted the napkin and grabbed a glass of the punch to go with his little assortment of food.

Orange Grin followed Violet over to one of the tables not already in use and started to sit before hopping back up and pulling her chair out for her. "Sorry, I do actually have some manners."
