Name: Simon Ainsel
Age: 19
Birthday: February 28th
Gender: Male
Class: College
Grade: Freshman
College Major: (anticipated) B.S. in Marine Biology

Appearance Description:
Simon looks like he belongs on a California beach: tall, tan, freckles, shaggy sun-bleached blonde hair. Lots of scars from bumps and bruises and years of various extreme sports such as skateboarding, surfing, rock climbing, etc. His smile comes easy but doesn't always reach his eyes. Simon's the kind of person who dresses like he rolled out of bed and didn't brush his hair, but it works for him (much to the chagrin of his best friend on the island, Neil). Lots of shorts, flip-flops, and flannel involved.

Personality Description:
On first brush Simon is a little stereotypical-- friendly, laid-back, a nature-loving granola-crunching hippie-- but he's much smarter than his surfer dude image implies. He's very interpersonally-intelligent and compassionate, and reads others well.

Behind that exterior is some deep-set sadness, an intense core of anxiety and depression that simmers in the pit of him. He's constantly monitoring himself and controlling his impulses, making sure he doesn't let himself go too far. It's much easier to keep his monstrous side in-check if he's relaxed about everything and doesn't feel too strongly about what's going on.

Powers:
The abilities Simon has aren't his own. On a daily basis, "Dee" (as he has named his demon) provides him with slightly increased durability, strength, and healing times. It's not very noticeable because he's not too far outside the span of natural human capability, but the difference is definitely there. Other than that? Just a regular joe.

However, if Simon lets himself slip and the monster takes over, there's a radical change. His body shifts and grows larger, bulkier-- he grows fangs, red eyes, horns, claws, the whole nine yards. The transition is really painful. In this form he is much stronger and more resistant to damage. The usual Simon is forced back to make room for the uncontrollable demon and though he does still maintain some sense of self when this happens, it's almost impossible to reach. The best option is to get out and stay out of his way until he wears himself out-- when he is too tired to go on, he'll change back and pass out until he's healed up enough to wake again.

Biography:
So, you're born to be the antichrist.

Okay, a very particular antichrist. For a doomsday cult. That believes that they are carrying out God's work by trying to end the world. How did this happen?

An isolated radical fundamentalist group in the Nevada desert read the signs back in the 90's and divined that the world was supposed to end, but didn't. Their conclusion was that it was not God's job to do the ending, but that he was making it theirs. So one of their younger followers got pregnant, they chose her baby to be the instigator of the apocalypse, and once the creepy rituals were said and done, the little embryo was prepared to come out and be the vessel of destruction of all mankind.

Except his mom wasn't happy about this. Edith Ainsel been planning to have a real family, and a life-- and the leaders wouldn't let her, now that this had happened. She was all of sixteen years old. So she did the only thing she could do, and called for help. Child protective services and police busted up the whole cult. It was a big televised scandal that was the story of the month for a news shift in '96-- but after the cameras and attention died down she was still left with a child, 7 months pregnant, and nowhere to go.

It turned out that Edith's only living relative was her great aunt, an old woman living in a small house near the beach in Santa Cruz, California. It was there she moved, there she was invited to stay, and there that Simon was born.

He grew up relatively normal, normal enough that Edith began to hope that maybe he wasn't changed by what had happened at all; Simon was a good student, a gentle child, loved animals, and had a very active imagination. Then, that active imagination made up his imaginary friend Dee-- and things got rocky.

To this day, neither Simon nor his mother are sure whether Dee is a separate entity that was tied to Simon's soul, or if it was a part of him all along. What they do know is that Dee is dangerous. A lot of therapy, a few talismans, and some carefully-titrated medication helped suppress the worst of Dee from rearing its ugly head too often, but Simon struggled actively with his (literal) demon from age 6 onward. He didn't have any abilities, but unquellable fits of rage were hard enough.

It wasn't until his 16th birthday that Simon began showing signs of powers-- broken bones healing faster than usual, scoring in the 100th percentile on his high school physical exams. Nothing drastic enough to warrant attention, but the first time he shifted after that birthday left half of his school in ashes. He dropped out and was about to start homeschooling when he got his invitation to the Island, and moved there to finish up his last two years of high school.

He's about to start his college life-- he just hopes that he doesn't fuck it up.

Simon has been approved! Now you can start roleplaying with him. Yay!

If you're not sure where to get started, the plots forum is a good resource for plots, as is the wanted ads forum and the plotting cbox at the bottom of every page. You can make an in-character intro thread at the Admissions Office, too. You can also find open threads (or post your own) on the Open Topic listing.
