Name: Derek Crohoore
Age: 16
Birthday: February 20th
Gender: Male
Category: Student
Class: High School
Grade: Sophomore, 10th Grade

Appearance Description:

Derek stands at 6'3''. He's a lanky young man with vague signs of muscles. His eyes and hair are both black in color. His hair is kept rather short and spiky. It grows rather slowly and tends to be messy. He can't be damned to do much more than brush it. He has light colored skin that tans (or burns...) fairly easily. He's clearly athletic, but he isn't one of those people with a lot of meat on his bones. His arms are average length while his legs are long. He has fairly broad shoulders.

His wardrobe is simple. Most of his clothes are solids with a few plaid items. He has the basics; t-shirts and jeans for casual situations, shorts for exercise, and suits and dress shirts for formal events. He of course also has the school uniform tucked away in his closet and tends to wear either that or his varsity jacket when wandering around the campus. Most of his shoes are sneakers, but he has a number of dress shoes and even a pair of fuzzy slippers. He doesn't have much in the way of accessories; he doesn't really wear hats, and his only "jewelry" pieces are sweatbands.

Derek has a fearsome alternate form. It can at best be described as a shadowy human figure with lots of tentacles and no facial features besides eyes that are spread out all over the body. It doesn't walk; it slithers. Someone looking at it could swear that it smells like boiled human flesh. He can still talk in this form, but it's unclear where exactly the voice echoes from. His body seems to be made of black ooze. Most importantly, it emits a madness aura. It is not advised to stay in the same vicinity as this creature for long.

Personality Description: Outwardly Derek is an aloof but nice guy. He's fairly sweet when he wants to be, but he generally behaves distant towards most. He doesn't really like dealing with too many people and is liable to walk out of a crowded situation. He has hobbies and club mates, but he doesn't have many friends. In fact, he really only has one true friend: Victoria. The guy's facial expression tends to be either small smile or completely neutral. He's generally a good guy and will do nice things, but don't mistake this for romantic advances. He will quickly give you the cold shoulder.

Underneath that cool sweetness is unhinged craziness. The truth of the matter is Victoria isn't just Derek's childhood friend; Victoria is his obsession. He truly, deeply loves her and will go to any lengths to protect her from harm. He likes knowing her schedule and what she's doing at every waking second of the day. He is willing to go to any lengths to make sure that she's okay. He also wishes to preserve their relationship. Anything that threatens their relationship will cause him to focus exclusively on eliminating the threats. He will do it by any means necessary and he's scarily clever enough to do it in even nonlethal ways.

However, that's not to say he's the perfect strategist. One of his downfalls is his own lack of sanity. If pushed enough, he will break and go on a murderous rampage. Easiest way to set him off: "harm" Vicky. Yeah, try it. I'm sure you won't get stabbed or burned to death.

Powers: Derek has command over insanity. It originates from somewhere within his Eldritch roots. He does have an alternate form that no one has witnessed. Well, no one alive anyway. He can corrupt objects and people with madness. He does this via physical contact with the target. Objects take twisted physical forms; people are only corrupted mentally. He can't induce physical changes on a person. He drains sanity from people and feeds off of insanity. This grants him access to constructs and his stronger alternate form.

His particular brand of insanity is rage. When his powers are utilized, he has the effect of making people feel downright angry. Whatever rage they have bottled up is exposed openly or rather encouraged to be released. It attempts to drive people to go into explosive fury. The effects of this are never permanent; it's a temporary condition. At its strongest, the effects would last for several hours. Note that this is in the most ideal conditions. For an attempt that's successful but not at its strongest, the effects stay for a half hour, hour at most.

As mentioned above, this is administered through physical contact. He has to spend at least two posts touching the target consistently if he wants the desired effects. If the target somehow breaks this connection (I.E. ripping their arm away, shoving him off, etc.), then the transfer stops. If he managed to get by one post, then they might feel a tinge of anger but not enough to switch their mood. If he manages two and/or beyond, that's when the corruption kicks in. At two, they'll feel a mood shift. Beyond that is urging the person to get pissed off.

Note: Eldritch form works differently than Human form. All madness induced by Eldritch form is immediate but fades away the moment someone steps out of Derek's range. The range of the aura is the same as the domain ability. People in Derek's range will feel a definite mood change and that's it.

The more insane he feels or senses, the stronger his powers become. This has the unfortunate side effect of destroying his own sanity. If he reaches zero, then he will shift uncontrollably to his other form in an attempt to exert its power out on the environment. The other form has a constant madness aura that steadily drains overtime. Once he's officially calmed down, he goes back into his human form and can relax at the cost of his powers being weaker.

Derek has the ability to also trap others along with himself in an alternate domain fueled by chaos and craziness, but he currently has zero control over this and is entirely unaware he even has this ability. It also can only happen when he's in Eldritch mode. The domain is a bizarre illusion meant to torment those in it. He has to also be conscious for he's both in the domain and functions as the power source. He can also only do this to one person at a time.

Scale of Madness:
  • 100% - Sane: Derek's perfectly content and chill. He can't make constructs, and madness inducement is limited to non-sentient objects.
  • 75% - Annoyed: Something's bothering Derek. He still can't make constructs, but he can now induce madness on people for about 5-10 minutes.
  • 50% - Agitated: Whoops, Derek's been aggro'd. He can make constructs, and his madness inducement lasts for a half hour. He appears pissed off.
  • 25% - Dangerous: Derek's teetering on the edge. He can make constructs, and his madness inducement can make someone feel angry for an hour, longer if he's allowed longer contact than two posts. He is visibly insane at this point.
  • 0% - Eldritch: Derek's completely snapped. He shifts uncontrollably to Eldritch form and is under the effects of it until his energy is exhausted.

Tips:
  • Other people with emotion-based powers can counteract this. Or technically they can make it stronger (aka bring him down another level) if they use anger-based powers, but who would want to do THAT?
  • Alternatively someone can just calm him down. He's weaker when he's calm.
  • He is not immune to emotion-based abilities. Inducing positive emotions in him makes his powers weaker, inducing most negative emotions makes him conflicted/confused but doesn't alter the meter, inducing anger will make the meter drop further.

Shorthand Version:
  • Human Form: Invoke rage-based madness via contact, create simple constructs
  • Eldritch Form: Constant madness aura (Touching does absolutely nothing), create a fictional domain the size of a small bedroom for one person
  • Eldritch Form only accessible at zero sanity

Biography: The Crohoore used to be a powerful family of Eldritch descent. They were an old rich family on the island of Manta Carlos. The other families knew them and respected them. They claimed a good chunk of territory for themselves and owned several estates throughout the island. There were a few smaller estates and then one large estate that served as the main manor. Different branches of the family lived in different estates. While they were fairly social, quite a few members carried an aura of mystery that scared some people. There were rumors about the family, but nothing was ever confirmed.

That all changed when the Crohoore head foolishly pissed off the wrong people. He used a poorly-planned intimidation tactic in order to gain more territory. This only served to anger the targets and cause a massive case of high society warfare. This would go on for a number of years. Derek's older brother Jason Crohoore was born during this conflict. Blood was shed, words were vomited, and money was lost to fuel this terrible war. A number of people within the Crohoore family were killed. When the head was successfully assassinated, the Crohoores lost the war.

Now having driven themselves near broke and making a lot of enemies, their territory was sold off to the highest bidder. Valuable assets were cut because they could not afford to maintain them. The family name was forever disgraced. Jason got to witness his social status rapidly changed from rich and powerful to struggling and weak. The change humbled him quickly, and he was forced to learn various skills to make up for the fact that his parents were now working constantly and all of their servants were gone. He balanced work, school, and home; he had a lot more responsibilities on his plate. This was the environment Derek was born into.

Derek's birth was a mistake; his parents had unprotected sex as a way to relieve tension. They decided to work around the birth of a second child; clearly if they worked enough hours, they could handle taking care of two children. Having Jason be so young yet responsible helped too. When Derek was born, he spent a minimal amount of time with his mother and barely ever saw his father. The moment he could walk, both his parents dropped off the map. They became workaholics obsessed with reattaining the wealth and power they once had as Crohoores.

His older brother took care of his needs but could not spare the boy much time for companionship; he had far too much that he had to take care of between housework, classes, and the job he ended up getting. This left Derek alone for the most part. He could do pretty much anything he wanted because there was no one to watch him really. His heart filled with intense loneliness. All he wanted was a friend; someone to love him and be there for him. Being coped in an empty house drove him crazy. This was enough to make him jump for joy the moment he could attend school.

Unfortunately school wasn't much better. A scandal involving one of his uncles getting arrested for kidnapping and cannibalizing several people put the Crohoore family back in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Other kids began to avoid him because they thought he was a cannibal too. That on top of his awkward social skills left him even more lonely at the academy. He took up several extracurricular activities, but he gained no friends from them. Derek was lucky if someone chose to socialize with him for a lengthy amount of time.

That was when he met the cute and broken girl known as Victoria Chandler. She was a wonderful young girl that suffered terrible trauma from her family life at home. She showed him kindness and either had no idea about the rumors or was brave enough to ignore him. He felt compassion towards her. The two of them had terrible family relations and suffered different but still painful kinds of abuse. They became amazing best friends. Derek found Victoria's presence comforting.

What started off as an innocent friendship escalated into a dangerous obsession. As Derek kept hanging out with her, he kept feeling steadily clingy towards her. She was his only real friend; even with him making positive relations with others, she was still the only one for him. He would do anything to keep her in his grasp. He worked his ass off to maintain their friendship and showed the purest utmost kindness and compassion. Vicky got to witness a soft side that no one else did. He began surprising her with gifts he made. He managed to get Jason to teach him a few basics in certain skill sets so that he could provide for his best friend.

While Derek was entirely aware that her home life sucked, he didn't know the extent of how bad it was. He was never invited over to her house and didn't really communicate with her parents. By the time they reached high school, he became a full-fledged Yandere. He kept close watch of her and felt intense jealous towards others that would approach his beloved. He began to suffer paranoia and replayed scenarios in his head of him losing her forever. His powers manifested in late middle school-early high school, and it took a huge toll on him. He felt great power and pleasure from his insanity, but he wanted to fix his deteriorating sanity or at least maintain it just enough so that he wouldn't drive Vicky away.

The teenager crossed the moral event horizon when Vicky revealed her scars.

It was just a normal day at his house. Jason couldn't cook that night, so Derek was doing it. His parents were off on different business trips making deals. They salvaged a good amount of their old reputations, but they still weren't satisfied with the amount of work they were doing. They were deeply engaged with their addiction. Victoria was staying over that night per his request. However, she forgot to get a change of clothes from her house. Not wanting to send her back home, he took a nightgown from his mother's wardrobe and handed it to her. The guy watched her enter the room to change.

The yandere worked in the kitchen as she was changing. He was cooking her favorite dish. He began to fantasize about them going out on a date. He would love to be her boyfriend, but he was struggling to build up the courage to ask her out. He wanted it to be perfect! He shuffled through different ideas in his head. One idea that popped up was baking her a heart-shaped cake. That reminded him that they didn't have anything ready for dessert! However there were ingredients in the kitchen to bake something yummy. He seized fantasizing about her to rush over to the room and ask the lady what she wanted for dessert.

Normally he would knock, but he figured that Vicky was dressed by now. He swung open the door and saw a horrifying sight. His beloved was in nothing but her underwear; it would have been a titillating sight if it wasn't for the many bruises and scars that decorated her pale skin. New and old scars disfigured her beautiful body. He froze as his hand held open the door. His face was filled with shock. How could this have happened?! Who could have done this to her?! How dare someone put a finger on his beloved!

What followed the shock was rage. Pure, unadulterated rage. He trembled as he stepped in and slammed the door wide open. It wasn't like anyone else was here to see the two of them. His hands balled up into fists. Hatred seethed from his being. Disgust poisoned his taste buds. This all rose from his intense love over Victoria. The guy wanted to find the person or people responsible for this and kill them. He didn't care who; he just had to murder them. They didn't deserve to live on this Earth anymore.

Victoria responded to his intrusion by screaming and hitting him across the face. Her slap left a red mark on his cheek. This woke him up out of his trance and led him to badger her about the identity of the perpetrators. They weren't going to get away with this. They couldn't get away with this! He would cleanse them of their sins by spilling their wretched blood. His lovely wouldn't answer him. She instead shoved him out of the room and ran away. In those tense moments, his mind flashed back to the times Vicky shared her dislike of her parents with him. It was then everything clicked into place.

Even though she didn't answer him, he came to a logical conclusion as to who the bastards were.

Her lowly, good-for-nothing, poor excuses for parents.

When she escaped through the window, he pursued her. He secretly followed her back home. He had to know the truth; he wanted to confirm his targets' guilt. Sure enough, her parents got into another heated argument and concluded it by beating the shit out of their precious daughter. The sight drove him insane; he wanted nothing more than to break into their house right then and there and beat them to death with his fists. However, if Victoria witnessed this, then she would be terrified of him. She could never forgive him even if she did hate her parents; how would she ever love a murderer?

That's why he chose to tamper with the house's heater and cause a horrific house fire that would consume both of her parents. He did it in order to kill them without getting caught. The evidence of his tampering was quickly disposed of. However, he noticed that his beloved wasn't trying to escape the house. He couldn't let her die! He quickly broke in through her bedroom window and went to wake her up. The male attempted to wake up his best friend, but she was in a dazed state. She wouldn't budge, so he carried her out of the house. There was still emotional residue of his hatred towards her parents, but his worry over Victoria's safety was at the forefront.

The emergency forces were contacted, and the fire was put out. However, they did not respond fast enough since it took a while for anyone to call about the incident. Due to this, the parents died from suffocation mid-sleep. Their remains were charred by the flames. Cops arrived as well to investigate the cause behind the house fire. They determined that the heater malfunctioned and created a devastating inferno that consumed most of the house. Both Victoria and Derek were questioned, but they could not pinpoint guilt on either party. Due to this, the parents' deaths were written off as accidental and blamed lack of heater maintenance.

Victoria moved into Derek's place. She took one of the spare bedrooms. However, his lovely as of late seems hesitant about approaching him. Why was this? Well, that was what he was going to find out. This time he would be a better protector towards her, even if it meant locking her up inside a cage against her own will.
