==> Hal.
@"Kait"

The only question running in Hal's head was why he was always picked to be the class gofer. Did his teachers have anything against him or something? He was sure he hasn't actually offended anyone (other than his fellow students). Well, maybe he was just thinking that. Maybe because they others were really just huge arses that the teachers couldn't talk to them. Darn it, why was he too nice?!

Hal was on is way out of the pool building. His feet were leading him out but his eyes were glancing at the few people that were in the pool. He'd guess it was the swim team. Part of him was jealous because he'd always wanted to be in the varsity but his condition was a little too much trouble to put him in those kinds of situations.

He was just casually walking when out of nowhere, his vision started blurring. He didn't actually have much time to process it and the next thing he knew he was already falling. The bad thing was, he was a little too close for comfort to the pool. When he partially regained his consciousness, he was already sinking in the water. In his panic, he tried to keep himself afloat but all he could do was thrash in the water which only made things worse.

Before his vision completely blacked out, the last thought he had was him reaching out to a blurry figure that was above the water.

Esmeralda liked swimming; she was really good at it. Part of this was her technique. Part of it was the fact that she didn’t actually need to work out to get strong. Part of it was that she could give herself slightly webbed fingers and toes during intra-school competitions without anyone noticing, making her the fastest swimmer in the nonmagical female division. Even if she didn’t have to practice to stay in shape, she still liked going to practice sometimes, just so she could remind herself that she was a better swimmer than everyone else here.

Like that kid, for example. Looking at him, you’d think he couldn’t even swim. There he was, just flailing around in the pool, looking like he was about to oh god that kid is actually drowning isn’t he?

Envy ran to the side of the pool. Yup, definitely drowning. The kid was wearing the school’s uniform instead of a swimsuit. He must have fallen in when Envy wasn’t paying attention. Recognizing an opportunity to be better than all these passive bystanders around her, she reached into the pool and pulled him out by his outstretched arm.

His entire body went limp. He flopped on the floor like a dead fish. This wasn’t a good sign.

Luckily, Envy was pretty sure she knew how to perform CPR. She’d seen some idiots perform CPR before; how hard could it be? She put two fingers on his neck, which dug into his skin. That was where she was supposed to feel to find a pulse, right? But she wasn’t feeling anything… maybe if she moved her fingers a little to the right – yup. That’s where you check pulses. This kid had a pulse, so she didn’t need to push down on his chest over and over like an asshole.

He didn’t seem to be breathing a lot, but that was nothing a few rescue breaths couldn’t fix. Right? Probably. She tilted his head back and opened his mouth. She leaned in, pressing her lips against his, and

--“Uh, Esmeralda?” someone behind her said I don’t think that’s how you’re supposed to –“

She blew into Hal’s mouth. He came to instantly.

This would be the scene when he woke up: him on his back, soaking wet by the pool. A large-breasted high school girl locking lips with his barely conscious form, and a bunch of other swimmers standing back and staring at them.

First, there was darkness. The kind of darkness that was being unconscious and a little bit dazed. The kind that was caused but yet another disconnection from his physical body --that one where he stops feeling anything around him for a moment before he actually makes a projection. (He really needs to work this problem out so it doesn't keep happening, Hal thought.)

There was the cold water that pulled him deeper into unconsciousness as his body fell out of his control. Hal tried to regain control of his own body than to let things be. He was going to show this damned power who was the real boss.

From dark suddenly was the chill breeze that pricked at his skin after getting hauled out of the water and then... wait.

Hal's eyes jolted open at the sudden force of air that blew into his mouth and the first thing that registered in his mind was the high-school girl had her lips on his and this was probably not the right way he should have seen things. Hal was just frozen on his spot for a second but when the gears in his head finally moved, he lightly pushed Envy off of him and scrambled backwards a little. He swore on his life that he felt the gaze of other people on them. Hal wasn't sure himself which he should react to: the crowd or the girl in front of him. It didn't help he was flustered enough that he was almost as tongue-tied as his face was redder than usual.

"U-um, wh-what just h-happened?" he managed to stammer out — maybe from the fact that he was still in shock, or that the breeze was making him shiver. He woke up with a girl kissing him, nothing new there. Not.

Envy noticed Hal’s blushing. Realizing that her absolutely correctly applied and necessary rescue breaths were kind of similar to a kiss, she laughed. Yeah, that probably was a little embarrassing for him, but for her it was a proud and glorious moment. This was because,

“I just saved your life, kid,” she told him.

Behind her, Chad, the tan-skinned surfer-boy looking guy who was actually qualified to be a lifeguard, seemed like he was about to say something. Instead, he closed his mouth and went about his business. Strictly speaking, Esmeralda was telling the truth, he supposed.

She stood up and held out a hand to help him up. “Now, come on. I’m taking you to the infirmary.” Passing out and falling into the water like that wasn’t normal. He probably needed to get that looked at, and she could be the caring, upstanding citizen to help him get there. “Can you walk?”

"I just saved your life, kid."

Oh, right, he fell into the pool. That actually happened. Shit, man.

Hal was all sorts of frustrated and flustered. For one thing, falling in the school pool was embarrassing enough. Not being able to swim would have been excusable maybe, but not even being able to flail hard enough to reach the side of the pool was just not. At least that was it for Hal.

Okay, there was nothing wrong about getting saved by (probably) one of the people from the swimming varsity but what he woke up to was something that just wouldn't leave his thoughts. And honestly, he didn't know what she should make of it. The again, if he did almost drown, his breathing might have stopped. Right.

“Now, come on. I’m taking you to the infirmary. Can you walk?”

"Huh?" She reached out her hand in front of him but Hal was way too focused with his thoughts that he wouldn't have noticed if it were not for her talking. "N-no, it's alright, we don't have to go there!" he said, rather defensively, inching away from her.

He struggled to get up but just as he did though, it felt like blood suddenly rushed to his head and everything around him suddenly looked as if they were wobbling. Hal paused and held his head for a moment to get his balance back before talking. "I'm alright I-- I think I just need to sit down somewhere..."

“…Whatever you say. There’s a place to sit down on the bleachers, over here,” Esmeralda said. She lead him over to an open spot on the bleachers. Wherever he decided to sit down, she would sit down with him.

“I’m Esmeralda. Hhat’s your name?” That was her first question.

Next, she would ask him, “Is it normal for you to pass out like that?”

Hal left like everything was spinning around him; his vision was shaking enough that he would think it would be bad for him to be even standing without any form of support. But then again Esmeralda was leading him so he should be fine, he thought.

He plopped down on the bleachers as soon as they got there and held his head. God, why won't the shaking stop, he whined in this thoughts. After hearing Esmeralda ask, it took him a second to buffer and respond. "M... my name's Hal," he muttered, "And... well, yeah I guess you could say that happens often."

Hal squeezed his eyes shut for a moment, and shook his head a little hoping it would help, "Though I guess it's the first time it happened near water anyway," he added.
