"Prissle-Toes! Glumdrop! Num num time! Where are you my lil furballs?~" cooed Tengu as prepares her cats meals. The moment the food landed in each of their bowls both cats seem to magically appear out of thin air and nibbled on their food. Tengu bent down to pet each cat with the wrist of her wings and leaves the two of them enoy their food in peace. "Aww... there you two are! Well enjoy you meal you two."

As she stood up, her eyes gazed at the clock. It has been awhile since Jackal had left to... go visit someone in the hospital. She didn't know the exact details but she hoped that whomever it was will be okay. It was then she had the bright idea to make him something for when he finally came back the apartment, that way he had one less thing on his mind when he came back. So searching through foodstuffs, she collected a box of pasta, a jar of tomato sauce, some prepackaged meatballs, and some slices of bread to be toast! With all of her ingredients ready, it was time time get cooking!

By the time Jackal returned back to the apartment, Tengu had just finished straining the noodles and was ready to add the sauce to make spaghetti with some slices of toast.

"Hey Jackal! Hungery? I made spaghetti for you would like some. Even remembered to make meatballs this time!" greeted Tengu as she cranes her head over get look at Jackal coming inside. Upon seeing him, she tilts her head and adds "Is everything okay with your friend by the way?"

Jackal was fucking tired. He'd spent a good portion of the day at the hospital before being effectively kicked out and told to go home. He needed a shower. He probably smelled. He wanted nothing more than to sprawl out in his bed, and maybe cuddle with a cat or two.

Only the moment he opened up the door, letting himself in, his senses were immediately slapped in the face by... spaghetti sauce?

Some kind of meat sauce. he could smell it cooking, and he took a nice deep inhale as he stood on the doorstep before finally kicking his shoes off, closing the door behind him.

"Oh thank God," Jackal said. "The only thing I've had to eat is hospital food, and that shit is fucking awful."

Would anyone argue that? That hospital food wasn't total shit?

"It was Dalia, for the record. One of Malara's daughters." He headed right on over to inspect the goods, eyeing the meatballs in particular as he stretched out, reaching down to scoop Prissle-toes off the floor to hold in his arms.

"She's kind of in a rough spot, honestly. Not sure how that's going to turn out. She does respawn though, so..."

"Whaa? Hospital food isn't that bad. I mean, who doesn't like salted crackers and applesauce? But I am sure the hospital food doesn't compare to this freshly made spaghetti and meatballs. So its a good thing your hungry! Whatever you don't eat I will just throw in the fridge to save it for later." piped up Tengu, apparently that rare individual whom didn't find hospital food to be total garbage.

"Anyway, I followed the instructions exactly so it should be perfect!"

She gave Jackal (and Prissle-toes) a little bit of space as he dished up, listening to him as he discusses who it was he was visiting. Though she didn't really know Dalia personally, it did sadden here that she wasn't doing so good.

"Oh! Malara is your girlfriend right? It must be hard on her and the other children. Even if she does respawn, nobody wants those they love to be hurt or in pain. How are they all handling it? And how are you handling it? Would you say you are close to her kids?"

"She is, yeah," Jackal confirmed. "But things are fucky. To keep it as brief as possible, one of the kids--Dalia--is definitely the one I was closer to. Amber's a bit... uh, shy. Seems nervous all the time. Except Dalia has something weird going on. This is going to sound awful, but I kind of stopped giving a shit about her."

He took a moment to pause, scratching Prissle-toes's stomach as he leaned back against the wall, his tail shifting to help keep him uprgiht.

"Not just me, either. Everyone--even Malara--just suddenly stopped really caring about her. I think we're all at the point where we recognize it's something supernatural, but it's not like you can make yourself give a shit about someone."

He'd tried. He sure as fuck had tried.

Tengu had to keep herself quite as Jackal talked about Dalia, for she was close chastise him for what he was saying about not caring about Dalia. She was glad that she at least allowed Jackal to explain the situation further. Though her initial apprehensions the supernatural funkiness going on with Dalia was still unsettling and clearly it effected Jackal how he just couldn't seem to care. Like... he cared that he didn't care which in strange way meant he still cared about Dalia even though he physically could not? Oh that was hard to think about how to even go about explaining it.

"Oh! Goodness... thats terrible. Does nobody know what is going on with the poor girl? I know there are some kids whom have powers that effect how people feel about them. Auras that cause people to get mad or sad or even feeling nothing at the person projecting the aura. Did it just... sort of turn on for Dalia? Have her family looked in way to turn it off or suppress it? Like one those nullification bracelets?"

Was that just it? Some unknown switch turned on and Dalia's newfound power caused people to slowly make people not care about her anymore? Is this something even easy to fix?

"It's a curse or something," Jackal said. "I'm looking into it. Kind of wish I had my old powers, but what can you do?"

You could ask for one. He'd been considering that exact thing. Just... asking. Just being like 'hey, I have a few ideas for what I could be doing on earth that'd be more helpful than whatever it is I'm doing around here'.

Maybe it was for a purpose?

"Didn't do anything," he said, relatively confident they'd tried everything that could reasonably be tried. "Nullification bracelet won't block incoming... magic or whatever it is. Don't think it's something she's putting out. I think it's something they're putting on her. I'm going to do some snooping and see if I can't find who caused it."

He was going to be a man on a goddamn mission.

"I dunno. Not really an expert on curses. Though..." Tengu then taps her chin with her metallic wrist, striking a thinking pose. "... maybe I can ask a few people whom would know about this thing more than I? I tend to see a lot faces throughout a the day and I may know someone who might know thing. Or at the very least a guy whom might know a guy who knows another guy's brother's sister-in-law cousin whom might know about this curse business."

It was long shot sure but there are few places that specialized in magic stuff that she is on good terms on so she might as well bring up the question. Oh she she set herself a reminder.

"Oh Conscious? Can you remind me to ask people about what they might know about curses? Uhh huh. I think those are good times to remind me, thanks Conscience! OH wait! What do you know about curses? No like the other curses... ummm... is that a no? Well okay then thanks Conscience!" cheeped Tengu, whom returns her focus back onto Jackal.

"Yeah my Consciousness doesn't seem to know about mambo jumbo stuff. And they are pretty smart too but oh well. You said that not even the nullification bracelet work? Oh that's... like super serious then? I mean those usually negate those sort of harmful effects now don't they? There is some funkiness going on for that poor girl to be affected like that. But I'll try to do some help out with your snooping where I can. Hee hee hee... snooping... I like that word~"

Few people would expect much from Tengu. She delivered the mail. She was, for lack of a better term, a bit ditzy. But Jackal also knew how much she got around. Tengu knew a lot of people.

"That'd be nice," he said, taking her up on the offer. "The way I figure it, every person looking into things is one more pair of eyes on the streets. We've got a ton of leads to chase down, and not enough solid evidence."

He didn't even blink when Tengu started talking to themselves. That happened a lot, and while he'd originally found it concerning, he'd since accepted it. He didn't think it was a mortal thing (Weren't consciences more of a metaphor than something you talked to?) but it wasn't as if it was an expert. Most of the mortals he'd been around didn't exactly have one.

"From what I get," Jackal said, "bracelets will stop your own stuff, but not other people's stuff. Like, wearing a null bracelet wouldn't have made you immune to me. So it's the same thing. Someone's got a power acting on her. If we stuck a bracelet on them it might help, but magic... magic's weird."

Understatement of the century.

"Seems like me and your conscious are in agreement."

"Ohhhh! I get it! So that just means we have to sniff out the person whom put the curse on them and slap some nullification bracelets on them and boom! Problem solved... ish. Well at the very least we could maybe get them to lift the curse once they are caught, assuming they have the power to undo it."

Oh that was good question now wasn't it? While some resolution would be nice, finding the perp did not guarantee that the problem would be solved. It made her wonder why someone would put so much effort into making Dalia suffer like this. Was their a motive against her or just a wanton act of cruelty?

"Any idea who would even do this? Any whom go after a kid like this has to be like... a big doo-doo head!" insisted Tengu, whom for a moment moment looked mad. While she wasn't one to get mad over things, sometimes she just had to call out someone for being meanie. Looking the spaghetti, she demeanor quickly changed as she then asked Jackal in friendly tone. "OH how are you enjoying the spaghetti? Did I cook it just right?"

Jackal offered a resounding shrug of his shoulders in response to Tengu's first question.

"Noooooo idea," he said. "Honestly? I've bounced ideas around. Kind of wonder if it's not related to her mom. Pandora, that is, not Malara. She did kinda fuck off without any sort of explanation."

There were definitely a lot of options. But he supposed the biggest issue was that the culprit probably wasn't someone he was thinking of. Whoever it was, they'd probably kept themselves so far below the radar he didn't even know they existed.

Oh right. The food. He'd forgotten. Jackal took a moment to shovel some into his mouth, slurping up the noodles as he did.

"'Sgood," he said through a mouthful of noodles, before going back in for a meatball.
