Jude had picked up a lot of weird powers. Some of them were his own. Some of them were the gifts from Regalia he'd bonded with. Some were easy to work out. He'd mastered summoning his guns inside a day or two. He'd figured out memory tampering. Some of his other stuff? Less so.

He still hadn't gotten the hang of his... what, super speed? He knew what it did--sped up simple tasks--but not what specifically triggered it. It seemed to pop up entirely at random. But he was making progress, writing things down and using the honest-to-god scientific method to figure out what he was dealing with.

But it was his portal that was proving the most irritating at the moment.

The three of them had sprawled out on a grassy section of the academy grounds, enjoying a last bit of sun before heading inside, and Jude was doing his best to demonstrate. The portal he'd made was approximately three feet by three feet, shimmering slightly and otherwise not being super obvious unless you were looking for it.

It was also stubbornly resisting Jude's attempts to insert his hand into it.

"My question is how anyone who isn't me could be expected to use this," he grumbled under his breath.

"I dunno, that's pretty weird," Iggy shrugged. He was about as baffled as Angelo was regarding this dilemma. He'd seen all sorts of people having control issues with their abilities all his life. But he'd never seen someone unable to access their own pocket space. Honestly, he couldn't when it came to issues like that. Iggy was born with a natural knowledge of how his abilities worked, even when he got new somewhat unorthodox abilities, like his smoke.

"Maybe we'd get a better idea if we could get a look around in there," Iggy suggested, a lilly sprouted from the ground as he did. "There's no guarantee it'll work though. I'm not sure how my range works when it comes to pocket spaces."

Alma lay in the grass, uniquely aware of how cold it was. Which of them had tough this was a good idea? Iggy, probably. Big fuzzy ass that he was. He liked the cold ground. And both of them showing off their fancy new powers. Alma made a pouty face and bapped both of them lightly. "Show offs. You're both turning into wizards and all I got was this very sweet, super thoughtful bracelet that means I don't have to worry about auras."

She paused and laughed a bit, looking from Iggy to Angelo and back again. She wasn't actually complaining. She loved her bracelet. But it would've been neat to join in on that tournament thing. But then again, she might have had to deal with some strange, unworkable power like Angie was now.

"I dunno. Maybe a drone with a camera on it? Would that work? Why exactly can't you put your hand in?"

"That's because you already have a whole castlevania toolkit under your belt. When I came here all I had was my memory."

More or less. He'd kind of had some other stuff, but that was the big one. "And I only realized after the fact that the bracelet is practically a necessity if you ever do dinner with my dad." Meeting your boyfriend's father was bad enough. Meeting your boyfriend's ex-mafia father was worse.

Meeting your boyfriend's ex-mafia father with a fear aura was a whole other level.

"No organic matter. Or no living matter. So..."

Jude reached up with his robotic arm, slipping his hand into the portal. It carried on normally until it reached a seemingly arbitrary point (which both would likely recognize as the point where his stump was), at which point his progress screeched to a halt.

"Robotic arm yes. Flesh and blood arm no. I don't know if your... plant... uh, scout, would be able to see in. Cell phone probably could? I didn't think to check."

"Yeah, Alma you were bullshit from like the start. You just gotta get into the aesthetic mo- oh wait you already are with those big ass wings," he gave it some thought. "Some horns would bring out the goat in your eyes."

"For the record these aren't scouts," Iggy corrected as several different types of flowers began to grow around them. "They're eyeballs."

"What good's a portal if you can't do anything with it? Have you tried asking the person who gave you the power? Because... this is like take it back to the store bad," as he said this, Cooper balled up a bag of chips and threw it at the portal.

"My big-ass wings are fantastic and you know it, baby." Turning over onto her stomach, Alma opened her wings out wide, briefly casting a shadow over their trio on the grass. She continued fidgeting with her bracelet and watched Cooper as he tossed a chip bag into it. "I've got a horn already with my bracelet. I think horns on my head would just get in the way and ruin my vampire aesthetic."

Glancing at Angelo, Alma thought about the limitations he seemed to have on his portal. "What about your new arm? Can i go in? We could set a phone to record and push it through, just to get a recording of what it looks like."

"Eyeballs," Jude said, squinting at the plants. They didn't look any different, but if Iggy could see them... Or see through them anyway.

"I did talk to them," Jude said. "It was Aria. But powers manifest differently in different people. Just because something works one way for the Regalia doesn't mean that it works that way for anyone else."

As for going into the portal itself.

"My arm goes in just fine. So does inorganic stuff. Cell phone... maybe? What if we hold the phone half in, half out? Or just have the camera part in..."

He considered that for a moment before flipping out his own phone, holding it up before reconsidering.

"Who wants to do the honors? Or does Iggy want to slide one of his... eyes... in?"

"Agatha and Stiletto said the something similar. Actually the flowers are the only power I got that's closest to the regalia that gave it to me."

"I mean we can give it a shot, but if it doesn't like organic matter..." his voice trailed off, it was kind of obvious what he was getting at with that. Honestly the phone sounded like a better plan in all honesty. Part of him wondered if he counted as organic when he turned into smoke, but he also didn't want to risk getting trapped in Jude's pocket dimension.

"We should go with the phone plan first. That seems like the safest bet."

"I'm good to do the phone plan," Alma said, fishing her phone out of her jacket pocket and swapping to the camera app. "I can use mine if you want. It's old anyway, so if it gets lost forever it's no big deal. I have all my pictures and stuff backed up anyway."

Not really sure what to do, Alma just threw the phone through the portal with the camera turned on. Whenever Jude fished it back out, he'd see a video of a white space that vaguely mimicked the area they were in, just seemingly sketched out.

Jude left the phone in the portal for only a few moments before reaching in with his robotic arm, groping around until he found the phone and pulled it back out. It looked fine, which was consistent with what he'd observed, and he flipped it around before replaying the video.

"...From what I've tested, it reacts the same as reality, so there's that much. And it recorded, so... time's still flowing. But..."

Jude squinted for a moment.

"Why's the video so long?"

There didn't even seem to be anything on it. Nothing changing.
