So that was done. They'd given their blessings or... whatever. Powers should be kicking in. Evan didn't feel any different, but he supposed it wasn't like he'd know the difference anyway.
"So this is it, right?" Evan said, turning back to the girls after giving Straga the briefest of salutes.
Cori bobbed her head briefly, leaning a bit against her sister as they supported each other.
"This is it," she said. "It was..."
Not fun. Definitely not fun. Not after that.
"Eye opening."
Evan snorted at that, and then stuck his hand out for Cori. She stared at it for a moment, looking mystified, and was only once he jiggled his hand did it dawn on her what he wanted, and she reached out, giving him a quick shake.
"Enjoy the rest of your time on the island," Evan said. "Maybe I'll see you around."
Both girls gave their own nods--small and quiet and withdrawn-and then Evan headed out.
