With her studies concluded for the day, Anna had decided to wander down to the city and do some light shopping with the money she'd been saving up from her work at the Siren's Song. She bought a couple of new books and a cute necklace...then found something that she couldn't resist buying. Thrilled with her purchase, she made her way down to the museum to share it with her best friend.

"James," she saw him sitting at the counter in the front. There was...some girl leaning on the counter and talking to him. Anna slowed her pace. "Sorry, am I...interrupting?" She looked between the two of them. She hadn't seen this other girl before, maybe...oh! Maybe this was the girlfriend that James had told her about! "You must be Mari?" she ventured a guess, offering a bright smile and a tilt of her head. "I'm Anna."

Marian had her day quite planned out for her. Visiting her little pet was in the list of things, which brings the little Shade to the museum where James worked. She was asking him about what he did and everything -- casual things, along with pretending to be completely fascinated by everything he told her. With some sides of well, subtle flirting? She loved the things in museums, she'd be honest but other things also bored her just the same, selective attention and all.

Her ears were quick to hear a new voice, calling out to her boyfriend. Marian turned to the speaker in question; she hadn't been familiar with her to match a name, but the face was someone she'd seen. She smiled to her, a slight twitch in her lip almost breaking the smile. "Mm, James and I were just talking," she replied first. She pushed herself off the counter to attend to the interruption. Her smile could have fooled anyone but something was off about it. "That would be me; it's Marian, actually but Mari's alright too.

"Anna?" she echoed, glancing back at James and back to the girl in question. Marian extended her hand forward, "Friend of James right? it's nice to meet you!"

A good day, it had been a good day. Work went smoothly as usual, and his adorable girlfriend. They'd spent some time looking at the exhibits, he'd been tempted to pull her into a make out session but he didn't think his bosses would appreciate seeing that on the security cameras.

The day was winding down, so they were just talking, when a familiar voice filled his ears. It was Anna, who probably his closest friend. Smiling brightly, he waved at her, he owed a lot to her, cared more about her than I realize.

"Yeah," he nodded at Mari, "I'm happy you two finally get to meet." Hopping down, he wrapped an arm around Mari, "just finished looking at the new exhibits." His emotions were to confused to realize it, but he was actually happier to have Anna around than his own girlfriend

There was something sour in the way that Mari looked at her...and that sour feeling stayed in her stomach as James put his arm around the girl. She resisted the urge to frown at the feeling that had bubbled up within her from simply seeing them together...she should be happy for him, so she shook off the weird feeling as best as she could, forcing it deep into the back of her mind. She couldn't help but feel like something was off, here, but she couldn't put her finger on it. Oh, well.

"So good to finally meet you, James keeps hiding you from me for some reason," she gave a light laugh, then addressed James. "I went shopping today," that was probably evident by the couple of bags she was carrying. "I got something for you," she continued, digging into one of the bags and producing a thin circlet of metal - she had a matching one on her arm. "They had these cool friendship bracelet things at one of the places on the way here. They're supposed to change colors depending on how the other person is feeling." She held out the item to him with a bright smile. She felt a little weird giving him this kind of gift in front of his girlfriend...but if she was a normal person, she'd probably have no problem with it. She shouldn't. Anna and James were friends, that was all.

Marian giggled, "Must be the timing," she simply said, offering nothing more but a smile and a shrug to Anna. The Shade's curious eye seemed to go inbetween the two, for a brief moment, her normally bright and childish looking eyes looked colder, more calculating as she watched the exchange between the two. She didn't want to show it too much though; and every chance she saw the other girl turn to her she warped her expression into something less malicious.

She leaned a little forward to the bracelet handed to James, pretending to be curious of the accessory. In the same motion she seemed to cling into James. "That looks pretty!" she exclaimed. Marian only pretended to keep her attention on the bracelet, but she remained watchful of the two; watching for little motions.

They seem close. Very close. She wondered for a moment how much damage she could cause between them. "I don't think I get to hear as much about you, Anna; that doesn't seem fair if you've heard enough about me."

He took the bracelet carefully, it was beautiful, another amazing thing she'd done for him. James slipped it on grinning, "thank you Anna," his eyes seemed to shine brightly at his friend.

James looked to Mari as she started clinging to him, he didn't mind really, she was his girlfriend after all. So he snugged her, though there was a flash of doubt on his face and in the back of his mind. He ignored it for now.

"Thanks again Anna," he looked between the two. "We could walk through the museum together, look at the exhibits." He loved the museum and would love to explore it with both of them.

Anna smiled as he took the bracelet from her, watching him slip it on. It took a few seconds, but both of the bracelets glowed a bright, happy blue. "Oh, here," she gave him a little slip of paper that had all of the explanations for what color meant what mood. They were both happy right now...that was good. She was glad that he was happy; it made her happy, too.

"I haven't heard too much about you, actually," she told Mari as they started to walk through the exhibits. "Like I said, this one here's been keeping you from me," she nudged James playfully with her shoulder, walking on the other side of him from Mari so she could be next to her friend. His bracelet flashed pink for a few moments before settling back to blue. She wasn't sure what it was about the way Mari clung to James, but it just didn't settle right with her. She sighed internally. She wanted to like Mari, she really did. There was just something about her that was...off. "This is one of my favorites," she pointed out as they passed the old wooden flute that sat in a case. The one that had been used to...control time, or something? Either way, she loved the old instrument, beautifully crafted and remarkably preserved.

Marian curiously observed the pair. She was watching their body language carefully, her sharp eyes catching on how they seemed to curve into each other. Hm... the girl could mess up plans. Not that he would particularly care much! But if ever she did come in between her and her little plaything; she would have to end things prematurely. Which again, wasn't a problem. She had actually better stuff to do. And by stuff, she would mean a very interesting guy, but she wouldn't say that aloud.

The shade smiled at Anna, not too surprised that James hadn't talked about her with her little... friend. Another clue to the puzzle. It wasn't quite a puzzle to Marian though; it was easy to read the air and what better way to acknowledge the air by doing something against it. Marian leaned close to James, wrapping her arms around his waist so he was closer to her in proximity. Watch as the other girl react, she thought to herself.

"Really? Aww James, how come you don't talk about each other to us? That doesn't sound fair," she whined. "You should about us more, right Anna?" Marian turned to address the girl just so she could see her face. The glow of the bracelet caught her eye, recognizing the color though not yet the corresponding meaning. Though if she didn't know any better, she would have said this girl seemed to feel more than a little comfortable next to him.

As they moved into the exhibits, Marian inwardly grimaced. She'd seen the displays once, and she wasn't really the type to go over them a second time within the same day. "Hmm that flute... ever wondered how it actually worked?" she piped up, striking a conversation with the group. The more they talked, the better Marian could get to observe their interactions; and the more she could observe, the better she could interfere.

He looked at the bracelet as it turned blue, "whoa...that's cool," Anna's bracelet would turn blue, showing his happiness. "I love it," he'd gotten very close to Anna, more so than anyone else. "I'll always wear it," and he meant it, he intended to always wear it.

James followed them over to the flute, his arm around Mari, but his eyes on Anna. He chuckled at Anna, "it could summon the dead, was used by a necromancer." He remembered taking her on a tour when she'd first arrived, how she'd helped with his emotions.

Anna's bracelet remained blue, showing her he was calm but happy. Turning to Mari, he kissed her cheek, James was pretty affectionate when he dated, even though he hadn't dated much. So he'd show Mari affection, even if he had some slightly burried feelings for Anna

Anna couldn't help the way that her insides bristled a little as they hugged and he'd planted a kiss on the other girl's cheek. Where on earth was that coming from? She concluded that she felt like a big sister towards James, and therefore was a little territorial or something, perhaps protective was a better word...of all things, she just wanted to be happy, and make sure that he didn't get hurt.

There was something in the girl's voice that also just...bugged her. Maybe it was just the timbre of her voice that disagreed with her ears or something. Anna was trying to do everything she could to like James' new girlfriend. It wasn't like Anna had a place in his romantic life, what he did with that was up to him. They were just friends. Best friends.

That James had so happily accepted Anna's gift to him made her heart warm up. She was glad that he liked it. She stared at the flute with a smile as he reminded her what it did. "So cool," she murmured, wishing she could give it a try...but summoning the dead didn't seem like a terribly good idea right now.

"I mean, if I know James well enough, and I'm sure I do, then I'm sure you two are a good couple," she hummed absently as they continued through the museum. "He's a great guy." She smiled to herself and shrugged a little. "You can always count on him to be a gentleman." Anna wondered briefly how close this girl could possibly be to James. Certainly not as close as Anna was to him. He'd said they'd started dating rather quickly, so there couldn't possibly have been enough time for him to even begin to tell her all of the things about his past...the secrets that Anna kept close to her chest. She had a secret pride in knowing that she knew things about him that nobody else did. It made her feel special.
