Name: Zola Edwards
Age: 18
Birthday: January 28
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Category: Student
Class: High School
Grade: Senior (12)
Appearance Description:
Eye color: Grey
Skin color: tan
Hair: Brown, past the shoulders
Height: 5'
Weight: 110 lbs
Dressing Style: Zola doesn't have a particular style. She wears all kinds of clothing but everything she does wear costs a pretty penny. She does like to show off her figure, the cut of each garment flattering her petite frame. Jewelry and make-up are a definite, it is rare indeed when she leaves the house without either. Her hair style varies, sometimes she'll wear it up in a simple ponytail or she'll go all out and have an elaborate do, and even will wear it down and let it look a bit messy (albeit intentionally so).
Physical Appearance: Small in stature, yes, but Zola doesn't let that stop her. She is one to draw attention. Her hips are slender, but is well endowed in the chest department. Her ears are pierced 3 times each ear, as is her eyebrow, but she doesn't often wear anything there. She's got a tattoo of a phoenix that she's done herself on the right side of her abdomen just below and beside her belly button. Her face is oval shaped and she has a long neck that she'll draw attention to with flattering jewelry. She does wear heels which make her look a few inches taller, but that isn't the reason, she just likes the way heels make her legs look. She has an erect posture. Another distinguishing mark is the scar on her butt (if she's wearing a swim suit of course) from where a dog bit her when she was young.
Personality Description: Zola is very much a people person. She likes to be around people, and doesn't mind being the center of attention. She also is quite capable of stepping back and just watching, something that comes in handy when she is painting. She is charming and adventurous, but tends to leap without looking first. She is the type to fight for the underdog, no matter what. She will put herself in harms way to help another person.
She has quite the temper too, but does try to control it. Try being the operative word here. She has her own definitions of right and wrong. What society considers a wrong, doesn't nessicarrily make it wrong to her. Zola is very open-minded and accepting of other people's flaws. She does have a horrible habit of turning a blind eye to really bad flaws though. If she has 'made someone her family' they can do no wrong. Yes, she'd help hide a body.
She is a stubborn young woman too. When she is told no, she will often do it anyway. She likes to play by her own rules but even then it's not so much that she'll outright go out of her way to break a rule. She is extremely compassionate and doesn't mind listening to other people's problems. However, she also will hear these problems and come up with a solution for them and even if the person requests she stay out if it, she'll try to help. She has a great sense of humor and a rather silly side at times but that doesn't mean she can't also be extremely serious. It all depends on the situation and her mood.
Powers: Pyrokinesis and Empathic. (Please note that she doesn't realize her empathic talent is more than the personality empathy at this time.)
With her pyrokinesis, Zola is able to control flames from a secondary source long enough to keep her from getting barbequied when situations get heated. She isn't too 'hot' at creating her own fire as of yet. When her temper 'flares' there has been instances where smoke comes out of her ears (she will punch someone for laughing about this) and when she gets a cold she tends to sneeze fire. She does struggle to control her powers but thinks they (it) will come in handy once she learns this.
Species Abilities: These are abilities that are shared by other members of your characters species. In general, species traits are not considered part of your characters two power limit. However, species abilities should include both strengths and weaknesses to balance themselves out. Common species (dragons, fae, vampires, etc) should still have their species abilities defined, since there is a large amount of power variation.
Biography: It was like some weird and twisted fairy tale that she was told as a small child. This aunt, or that great-uncle was a little off, a little different. 'Things' happened around them. It couldn't be said that these stories were told with pride, it always seemed to the girl that it was more of a cautionary tale. After all, who wanted to be like great-great-great Aunt Agnus who claimed that her daddy was practically a monster?
So Zola went on about her life, loved by her mother and father, spoiled by her grandparents, and annoyed when these stories came up. She didn't believe them. Life was simple, life was good. Normal was over-rated, but more in terms of that she liked to put cheese on her peanut butter sandwich type of way than anything like 'those' stories. School was something she enjoyed, she got to be around all kinds of people who were all different in different ways, and she got to do all kinds of things. Band and choir were a big no after the first attempt, cheer-leading was fun. However it was art classes that stole her heart. She'd always been creative, and showed signs of talent at a young age, but it wasn't until finishing primary school that it became one of the things she wanted to do in her life.
It was, all things considered, a very typical but perfect for her, life.
But good things never last forever. Zola and her parents had finished their weekly family night, and it was well past the time that even teenagers like to go to bed. The smell of smoke permeated the air, but there was no alarm, the batteries had died and her father hadn't gotten around to changing them in the smoke detector. None of the Edwards' woke, not at first...
It was a tickle in the back of her throat that finally woke the teen. Coughing she opened her eyes only to have them water instantly. Smoke filled her room and instinct had her rolling out of bed, going to the window and getting out. However, once outside Zola realized that her parents were not out there. Terrified for them she didn't stop to think, she ran back to the house and in through the front door. A wall of flames sprang before her, fiery tongues licked at her arms and legs, reaching but never touching. Quickly the girl approached the stairs, and they should have been impossible to climb, fire devouring the space between her and her parent's room right at the top of the stairs. Determination drove her though, and then suddenly there was a path, almost as if she had willed it to do so. She didn't think, she ran up and once more the fire roaring at the door suddenly moved and Zola was able to open it.
Neither of her parents were moving, and the tiny teenager didn't know what she should do. The sirens could be heard just over the roaring of the blaze that was destroying her home. Help was on the way. She ran to the window and threw it open, hanging outside and waving until the firemen arrived to rescue them all.
More than the house was lost that night. Zola's father had succumbed to smoke inhalation, but luckily her mother survived. Logic said that the girl shouldn't have been able to get from the front door to her parent's room in the first place, and when Zola explained to her mother what had transpired, the older woman got upset with her daughter. Zola was told quite clearly not to speak of such things to anyone. So Zola didn't.
The girl kept her mouth shut. But her own mother was the one who talked about the things her daughter told her to (apparently) the right (or wrong, depending on your point of view) person. Zola was still sort of reeling from the loss and the weirdness she couldn't explain when she was shipped to the Island. And more reeling happened when she started school...
She misses home, she misses her mother who now won't even write to her, and her father. She hopes she will never have another cold because she seriously sneezed flames and put a hole in her pillow before she managed to put the fire out. She wants her 'normal' abnormal back. Not this...
Additional Information: Zola does not like chocolate. Nor does she like liars or bullies. Spandex should be illegal.
She is dyslexic and sometimes struggles with her patience too.
French Fries should be thier own food group and it should be a law that they be served at every meal in her opinion. She likes older men, (but not tooooo old), but isn't shy about the fact that she thinks women are pretty too.
When she grows up she wants to be an artist and also work with children in some way. She also loves movies of all genres and will quote them whenever she is inspired by a situation.
(The previously mentioned cold in her history is actually a case of un-diagnosed pet dander allergies...)
