Hazel hummed to herself, putting several books away. Honestly, it was kind of hard to focus on school for her. Romeo and Juliet seemed a bit mundane compared to getting shot and staring at a decapitated hand for a week. She was so close to cracking where it was! All she needed to do was learn to fly or get someone to carry her around 300ish feet in the air, give or take.

For now, it was lunch time. And Hazel couldn't think too well on an empty stomach. Well, she could actually, just not right now. She pulled out her lunch box, going to eat outside. She wasn't sure where, it depended on the day really. Just somewhere outside.

Zveris was a man who preferred to get right to the point. He didn't like beating around the bush. He didn't like stewing over things for extended periods of time. If he was going to say something, he was going to say it not long after he first thought about it, or else not at all.

He was also the sort of person who would randomly pull someone aside, which was exactly what he did with Hazel.

Really, she was pretty much asking for it. A giant witch's hat practically screamed I know all about magic, ask me about it!, so Zveris didn't feel at all bad about simply stepping in front of her, towering over the tiny girl by almost a full foot and a half.

"You're a mage, right?" He said, not bothering with any sort of introduction.

Hazel blinked, a bit startled. She really wasn't used to people just walking up to her like this, let alone the rather straight forward question. She was used to it, but there was usually a hi and other introductions in there. Usually. At least he wasn't a sarcastic prick about it.

"Yeah, I am mage. Technically a witch, but that's a different fact. Do you need something then?"

It was a pretty good guess overall, given his direct attitude. Probably wanted to ask him some mundane questions. Hopefully they won't be too tedious.

A witch? What was the difference? Zveris didn't know, and he didn't really care either. They were all magic users to him, more or less the same thing even if they squabbled over whether it was magic with a c, a k, or both.

"Yep," Zveris said with a small wave of his hand. "Needed to ask someone half competent a basic magic question. Is it possible to... I don't know, summon someone up with an important personal possession? Like, steal their journal, summon them forcibly with it later?"

He got right to the point, didn't he?

Well, at least he was straight to the point. Made things quite a bit easier.

"Yeah, it it. Pretty easy, depending on who the mage is. Why do you ask?"

This wasn't exactly a normal question to ask someone. Obviously he didn't seem to want to learn it, or he would be asking a teacher on how to do it. Was it about the kidnappings? It seemed like a likely answer given everyone looking for it, but she saw the kidnapper. He didn't exactly summon people to him. What if he used an item to find the people. It'd make sense....

"It would also be possible to trace someone and follow them if you had an item like a journal as well."

Aha. So even though he knew fuck-all about magic, he'd been right--it would be possible to summon someone (or trace them) with items.

"Professional curiosity," Zveris said, pausing for a moment and giving the girl a hard look.

She was curious, wasn't she? Or was he just imagining she was curious because mages were always stereotyped as curious, bookish types?

Nah, she was probably curious. Anyone would be.

"Probably related to the kidnappings, which means I've gotta move my ass and go report it then," he said. "Thanks for the assist, miss..." Zveris gave her a look that made it pretty obvious she was supposed to introduce herself.

Hazel nodded, leaning back a bit. Yeah, she knew it was about the kidnappings. That's what most people were talking about these days anyway. "Anyway, I'm Hazel Arlnest. And I guess you have better be off then. Good luck figuring that stuff out."

She was definitely not gonna have enough time to eat on the roof. Probably better to just have it in the cafeteria or something. This was a bit of fun though, and she got to show off. Always a plus in her books.

Zveris nodded his head quickly, concerning her suspicions. He wasn't the type to linger, tending to get straight to the point wherever possible.

"Yes," he said. "Good luck in your classes." Wasn't that a polite ending? A good luck wish for a dutiful student? If it wasn't really, it was close enough for Zveris, and he turned away to head back to work to report what he'd found.
