"Come on.. There we go.. That's right." He coaxed the palomino on, guiding it around the riding circle. It didn't seem right. He'd galloped horses across Texas, broken all of the horses at the stable he'd worked at, and here he was, walking a stupid horse around a stupid ring, just because it had spooked and come way too close to injuring it's self.
He watched the mare's gait closely, watching for any change, any foot favouring. Wouldn't that be great. Sued because a horse spooked too easily. He stopped the horse for a moment, stroking her neck. "You on drugs or something to spook at a stationary bush.." he murmured cheerfully to her. He knew as long as he kept his tone gentle and kind, she'd never know what he was saying.
He ran a hand down her foreleg, feeling for any hotspots or refusal. There was none. He did the same for the other three legs, before standing, and staring into the horses large placid brown eyes. "I'm sorry darling, but things would never have worked between us. Our parents raised us too differently." he said somberly, as though breaking up with a girl. "But let's take one last walk to remember eachother by." he added, as pathetically as he could, clicking at the horse to keep on walking.
