Name: Yamato
Age: Yamato was summoned in the Heian period, making him technically around ~1220 years old. He has only been living outside of his pipe for about 2 years. He looks about 21.
Birthday: His real birthday, ie when he was summoned, is unknown. He knows he first became a human sometime in the fall, so if he were to celebrate a birthday, he'd probably pick a random autumn date.
Gender: Male
Category: Student
Class: College. Majoring in Photography, minor in Theatre.
Job: Part-time server at Club Gambit (NPC)
Appearance Description: Yamato is a little kitsune cutie with big ears and a very fluffy tail! He's thin and a little lanky. His hair is a stark white, while his ears and tail are more like that of a red fox. Even in his human form, his teeth remain as little fangs.
Yamato only stands at about 5' 3" but has a big, vibrant personality that can light up a room. He often wears clothing that shows his body since that is what he is used to wearing at Club Gambit, and sometimes will wear feminine clothing. He hasn't been socially conditioned to think differently about 'male clothing' and 'female clothing', so he just wears whatever interests him!
Personality Description: Yamato is a sweet boy and often terribly naive. Having spent most of his life stuck in a pipe, Yamato is still learning about the world around him and how to interact with people who aren't his "Master". Unlike most kitsune, Yamato is a terrible liar and thus completely lacks the ability to be a decent trickster. Rather than tricking people, he would rather be helpful or entertaining.
Unfortunately, since Yamato is naive and a bit childish, he is very easy to take advantage of. He wants to be liked, and will bend over backwards to please people--which unfortunately can lead him into bad situations. Luckily, his friends usually manage to bail him out and explain to him why he shouldn't do certain things or trust certain people. Nonetheless, it's very hurtful for Yamato whenever he realizes someone he thought wanted to be his friend was just deceiving him. The worst was when people tried to take advantage of his clairvoyant powers--he learned very quickly to keep his powers a secret.
Since Yamato has spent most of his time in silence and darkness, he is very appreciative of the beauty in the world. He sees beauty in even the smallest things that may otherwise be missed by others. When he learned about cameras and the ability to capture moments on film, Yamato became obsessed with photography. He wanted to be able to remember anything and everything that made him happy, and he hoped that showing others the way he sees the world would make them happy too.
Powers:
Major Power:
Clairvoyance: As a Kuda-Kitsune, Yamato was summoned to supply his master with the ability to see into the past and future. To see these visions only requires Yamato to concentrate on a particular individual and a particular event in their life--but by touching a person, he can also allow others to see his visions. His visions can last as short as a minute or as long as an hour.
Yamato needs a very specific point in time in order to see his visions. A question like "Where will I be five years from now?" is going to mean 5 years from the exact date and time that Yamato is asked.
He can't really work with rhetorical questions like 'Will I find love?' or 'Will I ever be rich?' because there is no point in time to go off of. It is possible to ask a question like 'Will I still be with my lover a year from now?', but there is no guarantee that a vision 'a year from now' will actually answer the question. That point in time could potentially be completely out of context to such a specific question--in this case giving no indication if a relationship still exists at that point in time or not. Sometimes it takes a bit more cleverness if someone really wants to see something very specific in their future or past.
His clairvoyance requires a lot of concentration. Breaking his concentration during a vision will not only make the vision disappear, but give Yamato a terrible headache. If he is touching someone and showing them a vision and is disrupted, they will experience the same side effect.
In rarer instances, a disruption can cause Yamato to get 'stuck' in a vision temporarily. He will 'pass out', but still be semi-conscious. He will know that he is watching a continuous vision, but be completely paralyzed--unable to move or speak. These rare spells typically last for about 24 hours before he can finally wake up.
He is very reluctant to use his clairvoyance. He has been taken advantage of in the past because of his powers, and also believes that maybe humans are better off not knowing the visions he can see anyway.
Minor Power:
Yamato has been granted a few minor kitsune powers:
Kitsunebi: A small fireball he can use to attack. It can hurt someone, but it cannot set a fire. Touching it will cause a painful burning sensation, but not leave a permanent burn mark. Yamato could definitely not kill someone with his kitsunebi, but it can cause enough pain to distract someone. A shot in the eyes can also cause a short, temporary blindness.
A blast of water can eliminate the fireball pretty easily.
Transformation: Yamato can change back into his tiny pipe-fox form. As far as he knows, he does not have a 'regular' fox form or anything else he can transform into.
Long life span: Kitsune generally live much longer than humans, as evident by the fact that Yamato is already over a thousand years old. He is not immortal.
Biography: Yamato was willed into the world as a Kuda-Kitsune, otherwise known as a Pipe Fox, on Mount Kinpu in Japan. He was granted the power to see into the past and future, and was completely loyal to his master.
Seeing as Yamato was stuck in a bamboo pipe for most of his life, he knows very little of his history. He knows he had a Master for a very long time, who one day stopped summoning him. Yamato waited and waited, but he never heard his Master's voice again. The pipe remained in one place for years, and then at some point was discovered and started being moved around from place to place. He was never summoned by a new Master--just shuffled from place to place.
Finally, the pipe landed in the home of a collector of Japanese artifacts on Manta Carlos Island. Yamato could sense the presence of a husband, wife, and three children--and yet none of them ever attempted to summon him and become his new 'Master'.
The husband and wife had a strained relationship, and during a particularly volatile fight, Yamato's pipe was slammed against a wall and broke. For the first time, Yamato was free...and he had no idea how to handle his new found freedom.
Although the family had never 'summoned' him, Yamato felt a certain devotion to the home. He remained hidden, but would do little tasks in the hopes of making the family happier. He would find missing items and place them somewhere to be found, or clean when no one was looking--little things like that. Sadly, Yamato's little gestures of kindness were not enough to keep the strained family together. The couple divorced, and the whole family moved out of the home--leaving Yamato behind.
At first, Yamato was reluctant to leave the house. He felt a certain commitment to it, despite the family moving out. He was also terribly lonely, however, and slowly began to ponder the possibility of going out into the large, strange world which he was unfamiliar with. He had remembered the family discussing vaguely how kitsune could have human forms, which Yamato initially had no interest in. But as his loneliness grew, he wondered if he too had such an ability. From what he understood, he either needed a human skull or a leaf to transform.
A human skull seemed a bit...unreasonable, so Yamato eventually managed to move past his devotion to the empty home and go outside. He had to try putting a few different leaves on his head until he found one that was flawless--and then it happened! Yamato did indeed have the ability to transform into a human form! Well, sort of. He still had foxy ears and a tail, but close enough right?
Things did not start out easily for Yamato. He had very little concept of the world around him besides the vague glimpses he saw in his clairvoyant visions and his time spent in the family's home. Anyone with cruel intentions could have so easily taken advantage of him--but luckily he found a safe haven in Club Gambit.
He happened to stumble into the club by mistake when seeking out food (when he realized that eating was a thing he had to do now). It was pretty apparent to Yura that the kid was clueless and no good would come of his just wandering aimlessly around the island. She offered him a job at the club because he was attractive and had a vibrant personality--plus he was eager to learn. Since Yamato's life had revolved around 'serving' others, he took to the job very easily.
Things weren't always easy for Yamato though. Since he was naive and always so eager to help others, he used to willingly offer up his clairvoyant powers to anyone he thought could be helped with them. There were some who took terrible advantage of this. One of Yamato's worst experiences was when he offered to look into the future for a man--only to realize this man was stalking one of his coworkers and used what he learned from Yamato to nearly assault his friend. Even though she was saved from the assault, Yamato was racked with guilt over the situation. After that, Yamato kept his mouth shut about his powers.
Once he gained some stability thanks to his job at the club and the help of his coworkers to guide him, Yamato wanted nothing more than to expand his knowledge and learn all about the world around him. Following the advice of his friends at the club, Yamato started saving money so that he could attend Starlight Academy.
He discovered that he enjoyed being an entertainer--whether it was singing, dancing, or acting--Yamato wanted to learn it all! He also gained an interest in photography when he realized he could capture beautiful moments and "keep" them forever.
Yamato now studies Photography at the Academy with a minor in Theatre.
Additional Information:
-While he has mostly mastered using a professional camera, most other technology tends to elude him. He still needs assistance uploading his pictures onto a computer and is slowly learning how to do minimal editing.
-Yamato has very little understanding of relationships, and still doesn't entirely understand how sex works. He thinks he might have some attraction to other men, but two men can't have sex with each other if they have the same parts, right? (Oh honey the things you must learn!)
-He could potentially date a woman with a take-charge personality, too. He definitely needs someone who can guide him.
-Yamato was nameless until he ended up at Club Gambit. Bunny helped him come up with a name after the two searched through a Japanese dictionary.
-Yamato learned decent-enough English from his time with the family and at Club Gambit, but he's not exactly fluent and sometimes struggles to explain himself.
-When he's really nervous, he'll revert to speaking Japanese. Not only that, but archaic Japanese that would even leave a fluent Japanese speaker confused.
-Yamato is now a Club Gambit NPC.
