That makes sense. I got compared to my older brother a lot. Usually like "Why can't you be more like him, why do you always have to be a black sheep" stuff like that.

i think my older brother got a sports scholarship somewhere but my mom didn't want me to go to college for some reason. Kept saying it would be wasted on me, or I was too dumb to even make it there. But I got better grades than my brother and I'm doing just fine here too so fuck her

Oh ouch. Yeah, I always kinda had something like that as a kid. My grandfather used to give me crap about not being as good as my brother. Or my cousins. Or really any member of my family really.

My instinct is to say don't let it get to you. But that's easier said than done. So I think, honestly? Work hard and prove them wrong. That's what I did. I worked my ass off to get where I am today

But don't do it just to prove them wrong though. Do it for yourself. Because you want to be better. Spite isn't a good motivator long term.
