James wasn't so sure, he didn't think the world worked like that. Things don't just work out, you can't just sit by and hope for the best, "is that a good idea though? I mean, isn't it best to plan? To work toward things?" Before the island, his life was just a cycle of pain, now he had a future to think about.

"Though...I've sorta been thinking about dropping out," he said with a shrug, "never went to school before, doesn't look like I'll ever be able to catch up. So maybe I'll just find a full time job." This was the first time he'd told anyone about this, no one else knew.

"I've started looking at some places that are hiring," he continued to help her as he spoke, "I have a part time job, but there not looking for full-timers right now."

Nyota lets out a grunt as lifts the bar, with Jame's assistance of course. "Grrr... you know... the funny thing about plans... they rarely turn how you imagine them. I mean, you could do everything right and somehow still lose. Honestly... never thought much about the future because... well... I didn't think I would have one laying on that damn hospital bed. Now... I feel like I'm in Super High... you know... that lame superhero high school movie by Disney? Well... anyway... sure preparation is good and all but just because you plan doesn't guarantee that its set in stone. Life taketh as it does givieth, and you just cant account when or where that will be." prated on Nyota, shaking her head at the thought of her withering in a hospital. So weak and helpless, never did she want to experience that again.

"Errmm... dropping out? Heh... wish I had that option but... my parents will... well they wont kill but I cant stand to make those two dorks cry over their only daughter being a drop out. I... I owe them that much at least." sighed Nyota, her rythmic up and down motion slowing until she gives one last thrust and hangs the bar on the waiting hooks above to catch the heavy bar. She sits up, her arm muscles sore as she rolls her shoulder to relieve some tension. She twists her head to watch her hand open and close.

"I know the pretty much eveyone will tell you that what your thinking is dumb idea and you should stay in school but honestly... if you think that is best then why should I stop you. Your life, your call."

He couldn't help but smile at her, others viewed her as harsh or hostile, he knew better though. Yeah she had her rough edges, but she was his best friend and the first person to give a damn about him. "You really care about them," he said as he turned to look at the weights on the rack, "see Nyota, you're just a big softie at heart," he said teasing her a little.

"In all seriousness though," he chuckled a little, "it sounds like it'll be nice having them here." He pulled a weight from it and started to curl it, "after they settle in, I'll buy you all dinner." The weight was heavier than the last, but he curled it easily enough, his muscles were trained and strong.

Once he'd finished, he set the weight back, as he did another weight slipped and fell, clanging on the floor. James flinched in pain, as the sound hit his ears, far louder than normal. "Ugh...I..," suddenly his nose started to burn, and the light's intensity seemed to increase. He stumbled back, his hands going to his face in an attempt to block it out. It'd happened before.

"Hrmp.. yeah... I guess I do. The only real people whom ever cared for me before you come along in my life." stated Nyota, taking a moment to think back on fond memories with her parents. After some reflection, she gives her friend James a hard expression before letting out a quite chuckle "Heh... okey maybe I've have become a little soft but don't go yammering on about dork. I have reputation to keep."

As James moved on to curling weights, Nyota likewise moved to different exercise. This time she figured to try out the leg curling machine. After placing the pin to lock on on a sensible weight, Nyota sits down and slips her legs into the leg cushions and begins to lift. While she strengthens her leg muscles, she listens to James and nods in agreement. "Erm-umh... yeah. That sounds fine. Like I said, they are going to love you by virtue of being my best pal here."

When James flinched, Nyota paused. She wasn't worried per say but, felt she should speak up and make sure nothing was wrong. Wouldn't bring her friend into the nurse's office for pulling a muscle or something. "Hey dork, you okey? Didn't pull anything now did you?"

Her voice seemed magnified to him, louder than it should have been, the light seemed brighter, and he could suddenly smell everything. His senses were taking it all in at once, itd happened once before. Everything seemed to blur and he barely managed to find a seat as he stumbled.

When his eyes opened, they started to change, his pupils, usually a pleasant gray-silver turned a pure, bright silver. His hands gripped his head as pain shot through it, he tried to keep his breathing even, tried to stay calm.

James didn't know it, but Fae magic was shooting through him. Natural magic that had laid dormant his entire life. Then his ears changed, they became pointed, revealing James for what he really was, an elf.

Was James having a stroke or something? Whatever it was that James was experiencing, Nyota clamored out of the exercise machine and strides over to his side.

"James? James?! The hell is going on?" demanded Nyota as she bends her knees so that their faces were now level. As James transformed right before her eyes, all she could do was stare in stunned silence as the transition ran its course. Once he fully became an elf, Nyota was left without words for a moment... all she could do was gawk at the changes. Yes they were minor but... his grey eyes looked a little more bright and steely , his facial features seem smidgen sharper and defined while his his ears now pointed like daggers. Once she could shake off the astonishment, she then blurted out.

"D-did... did you just go Vulcan on me!? The fuck just happened?"

His vision started to clear, he could focus and his hearing started to stabilize, but his senses were all enhanced, beyond what humans were capable of. "I...I think I'm ok," he looked around the room a bit, it was so odd, seeing and hearing like this.

"Vulcan?" he asked confused, he knew what a Vulcan was, but what did she mean by that. Then he realized something, his hands went up to touch his ears, and realization hit him. He'd changed physically, it wasn't just his senses.

Stumbling over to a large mirror, he looked at himself, the steel like silver eyes, his sharp pointed ears, he looked like an elf. He glanced at Nyota, as if looking for confirmation that it was all real.

Okey... so his friend now had pointy ears and he was in as much disbelief as she was over the sudden transformation. When he turned his head to her as if to confirm that what he was seeing was real, she could only nod her head slightly before finally finding her voice again.

"Ummm... yeah dude... unless we are both sharing the same dream what you see in the mirror is real." explained Nyota, stepping over some gym equipment to stand next to him by the mirror.

"Ummm... you say your okey? Nothing is hurting? Any... other changes? Your... still you under that right?" questioned Nyota, while she knew that this was still the same James, his sudden change left her with many questions. "You know what... I hate to cut our workout short but... we should check you in with the nurse or anyone who can tell us what the hell just happened. Was it something you ate? How... different do you feel? Is this the work of your shadow?"

"Y-yeah I'm fine," his ran his finger over his now elven ears, his mind trying to piece together what could have happened. "I don't know what this is," he take a breath to calm his mind, he nodded, "yeah....let's go." So James and her left the gym, and went to the nurse.

Soon he found out a shocking truth, he wasn't human, not really. He was Fae, a Fae changeling to be exact, left to be raised by humans when he was a baby. They weren't sure what caused the magic to reemerge after all these years, perhaps it didn't matter. He was changed, forever, things continued to shift around him, leaving him uncertain about many things.
