"As if anybody even knows we are related. We go by our god names here, I don't even remember my old one 80% of the time," she admitted with a casual shrug, not having any problems with that condition. Here she was Beltane, not some fisherman's daughter named Alanna from the Isle of Man anymore.

"If" Bel started mimicking his sigh and tone as she regarded him calmly, "You make it sound like being with me is such a hardship, Sam," she said honestly, sort of put out, and she was. She got the no babies thing and the not telling anyone they were family. But his tone made it seem like she was forcing him, and she did not want or like that.

"You make it seem like I am forcing you somehow, and you are just giving in to make me happy," she said crossing her arms defensively. "I don't want to do that to you ever. I love you," she said, "I am miserable without you, but I want you to be with me because you want to be," she told him in a gentler tone, realising now that somehow, she was the stronger of the two, and could withstand a lot more than Sam could.

"You couldn't force me if you tried, Bel. We both know that. It isn't that it's a hardship being with you, but I feel like I'm being pulled in two directions. Not by you but by myself. I want to be with you but I feel like I shouldn't want that because of who we are. But I still do and it makes my whole chest twist up because I don't know what's right."

Sam finally took a breath after that little speech he gave. He leaned forward, resting his head on Bel's shoulder. He felt so tired. "I do love you, but I feel like I shouldn't. Not the way I do, anyway. We were ripped apart at such a young age and now we find each other... like this. It's not fair."

For the first time ever, Bel slowly realised what having thousands of years of memories could afford someone. She had thought it was a curse to see all the memories of previous Beltane's but she realized now that it gave her a sort of insight and maybe even wisdom.

"Of course, it's not fair what they did," Bel agreed quietly, "But we can't change what happened or how we feel. And honestly, I don't think I want to, or even could, even if I wanted to," she said as she stared across the room.

Taking a deep breath, a sort of a soft sigh, Bel wrapped an arm around Sam and held him when he laid his head on her shoulder. "Sam, we aren't the first ones this has happened to," she told him, taking his hand in hers and stroking it, feeling the current there as she did so and finding it oddly comforting.

"We are not the first gods, nor the first Beltane or Samhain that this has been done to, nor are we the first ones to be where we are now... and, I don't think we will be the last ones either," she confessed, in her mind seeing another time and moment.

"All I know is that it will be a hard and lonely life if we listen to others tell us what we should feel or do or how to live our lives. We aren't normal mortals anymore, Sam. We don't exactly live by other people's standards. We can't. I mean normal people don't live two centuries or more, they don't hear the gods whispering in their ears, playing with their dreams, they don't know what we know, and in a way, it's best that they never will..." she stated softly, sort of tiredly, and in a way repeating words from some other memory that was now hers too.

"Alright..." Sam said with a heaving sigh. His arm slipped around Bel's waist and pulled her a bit closer to him. He was already tired, and the arguing was making him even more tired. Maybe it would be easier to just go along with it: ignore the tangle of possible futures where things simply got worse from this moment.

He pressed his nose against the nape of her neck, taking in her scent and putting himself back in the shoes of the man he'd been at the masquerade. Confident and energetic rather than dangling by a thread. "I love you, Bel. I'm sorry I nearly messed things up between us."

"You didn't almost ruin things, Sam," Bel sighed, being diplomatic about everything because she had been where Sam was. However, she had dealt with it differently, she had been fueled by hurt and anger, not despair.

Bel then leant her head on his, closing her eyes for a moment. "You rely too much on the possibilities of what you see. Tell me, did you even see this happening tonight?" she asked him curiously as she held his hand and squeezed it gently.

"I don't see day to day decisions, Bel. I see general endings. The places paths lead, not the paths themselves." He pulled closer to her, holding tight because he felt like any second the countless dead around him would drag him backwards and into a dark place he hadn't been in years.

"I don't want to lose you because I'm an idiot. The Druids knew I wasn't ready to join the rest of the world but they let me go anyway because I threw a tantrum about it." He stuttered out a laugh and wiped his eyes on her sleeve. "I'm a sad excuse of a god and a boyfriend. I-" he paused for a second, his breath hitching slightly. "I want to get out of here. I'm kind of hungry."

The truth was he hadn't eaten in a couple of days and he was actually starving. But that was not something to bring up a the moment.

"Come," Bel said suddenly as she got to her feet, pulling Sam up with her. "Agnes and I got some cookies and muffins back in the dorm, I can also make you a sandwich, or we can order something if you like," she said as she gently disentangled herself from Sam's embrace, kissing his cheek as she did.

"I just need to blow out the candles, and then we can go get something to eat, relax a bit, maybe then we can talk, yes?" she suggested as she searched Sam's face for a moment, once again noting his wet eyes, and very impulsively pulling him into a bear hug.

"Everything will work out, you forget I am Beltane, the goddess of love and protection," she told him jokingly as she poked him in the ribs, trying to lighten the moment somehow.

"Come on, let's get out of here, Bel said as she quickly gathered up all she had brought and was ready within a few minutes.
