Amidst the evening city glow, Locke was walking down the sidewalks after making some purchases of meat and vegetables for his dinner from a 24-hour shop. He had been working, and he had only got off duty just half an hour ago. It was almost midnight, which was an early leave for him since the club had some technical emergencies and had to close early while the technicians figured out what killed the power.

So he was this big, buff slab of muscle just walking down the street, wearing an all black ensemble consisting of a shirt, jeans and boots, all the while carrying two paper bags of groceries on his arm that seem to be hilariously undersized in proportion to his 9'6" tall frame.

As he was walking, he heard a shriek coming from an alley ahead. It sounded like it was from a woman. He had encounters like these before, and he intended to solve them the same way he always had. He quickened his pace to the suspected entrance, and there he saw three people cornering a girl.

He cleared his throat to get their attention as he approached. He was large enough to block the way. Locke puffed his chest out and tensed his muscles to look as intimidating as possible without overdoing it. "Do we have a problem here? I suggest you leave that lady alone."

It had been a long day for Nessie. She'd woken up with morning sickness, and then had to fight through that while spending the afternoon and early evening painting a commission downtown. She never liked the area, and she supposed this was why:

On her walk back home, she'd been cornered by some teens who'd obviously been drinking and were looking for trouble. She wasn't sure what had made her the target of their follies, but they'd backed her into an alley and while she'd been furiously scribbling in her notebook to ask them to leave her alone, they'd ripped it from her hands and pushed her back against a nearby wall.. The action caused her to shriek, hoping someone would hear her and come to help. There wasn't enough room here for her to take her true form and lay waste to these teens.

She was fortunate enough that someone came to her aid. The teens scattered upon the approach of the hunk of muscle that had appeared behind them, slipping away into the shadows. The air tasted of magic, telling her that they had used some kind of ability to help their escape.

Shaken, Nessie knelt and picked up her notebook that had been discarded by the teens in their flight with trembling hands, holding it to her chest.

"Excellent choice, boys." Locke watched the brats run away with their tails between their legs. It was a shame, he could have gone for a punch or two. People here weren't as stupid as he'd want them to be. And considering most people were gifted with powers, he would have thought he could have brawled more often.

He looked to the girl after making sure those delinquents were out of his sight. He had to kneel down on one knee so that she wouldn't have to look up so much. "Are you alright? Did they harm you?" he asked.

He offered his free hand to the girl if she needed it and to show that he meant her no harm. "If you would allow, I will escort you home. The streets are not safe at this hour."

Nessie was on the tall side for the average human-like female, but this man had an unnatural height to him that made her wonder just what he was. She looked up at him and shook her head silently as he asked if she'd been hurt, then nodded gratefully as he offered to escort her the rest of the way home.

Nessie relied mostly on body language and written word for communication, being a selective mute. Edward was the only one who'd heard her actually speak words in...a very long time.

So she didn't feel like talking? That was completely understandable. A man of his size and stature would normally leave people speechless from intimidation. Why, the poor girl was possibly too shocked seeing such a pristine specimen such as he. But other than that, she seemed grateful and took his offer.

"Very well, I shall escort you home." Knowing fully well that she wouldn't be able to move past her, Locke walked to his point of entry into the alley and waited for her at the sidewalk, still with his groceries in his arm.

She watched him walk away and moved to follow him, glancing briefly at the bags that were dangling from his arm. It looked like groceries. He must have been on his way home from shopping. Nessie felt bad for inconveniencing him like this, she'd have to figure out some way to repay him for his kindness in rescuing her and then walking her back to her home.

They walked in silence for a few minutes before Nessie realized she hadn't even introduced herself. She scribbled Nessie in her notebook and held it up so he could see, then pointed to herself with her free hand.

The silence wasn't uneasy. It allowed him to think about unrelated things, like what he planned to cook when he got home and what he'd like to watch when he ate. He was almost too preoccupied with his thoughts that he nearly missed the silent girl holding up her notebook.

"Nessie?" he read. When he noticed that she was also pointing to herself, Locke laughed heartily. "Oh! That must be your name! I beg your pardon, I have forgotten to introduce myself," He offered his free hand to her to shake. "My name is Locke Wolfram. A pleasure to meet your acquaintance, Nessie. Your parents must be fans of the creature in Scotland I presume? A majestic creature she is!"

Growing a little more friendly, Nessie smiled a little and shook Locke's offered hand, which was so large that it practically engulfed her own slender fingers. At his comment, she gave a small giggle and shook her head, then drew a few more pictures to communicate:

First, she drew a house, then drew Scotland around it, labeling the country so he understood what she meant. Then, she drew a little cartoon version of herself, followed by an arrow pointing to a drawing of a Loch Ness Monster. Then she wrote "Fae" and circled it. She held up the diagram for Locke to see.

Information like this was normally considered precious and secret to her kind...but the privilege was given to Locke since he'd come to her aid in such a dire moment...she'd deemed him trustworthy enough to know what she was.

While Nessie started scribbling again, Locke trained his gaze forward to avoid any oncoming people, and nudge the girl a little if she was going to collide with some obstacles, but the sidewalk was pretty bare, and with Locke being the one closest to the road, he didn't need to worry too much about a vehicle coming towards them. Even if it were a truck, he'd be able to stop it dead in its tracks, so dangers from that side weren't so immediate.

When she was done, Locke took a look at what she drew. "Ahh, so you are from Scotland?" He recited his thoughts aloud so she could correct him if he made a mistake interpreting what she had drawn. "... You are the Loch Ness monster? A fae? Who would have thought!

"Th--"
No! A memory in his past life screamed for him not to say those words. Fae were creatures who thought that word was worse than destroying their lives. Like most of his old memories, he didn't know if it was him who uttered it, or someone else. But it was best left unsaid. "This information is quite the revelation. I truly appreciate that you trust me with this knowledge."

Nessie gave a soft giggle as he interpreted her drawing and nodded. That was all correct. She'd gotten rather good at communicating through drawings or written word, but she was always glad when it was understood so clearly.

She heard him catch himself from thanking her and gave a nod of approval in his revision; thanking the Fae was an insult, according to their culture, though most people didn't realize that at first. Nessie was a rather forgiving Fae who tended to let the first offense slide, but it was nice when people remembered.

They walked together in silence for a little while longer until she turned them on to her street and stopped in front of her house. It was a quaint little two-story house that was comfortable for herself and her partner, Edward. She wondered if he was home?
