Appearance Description: Vanyan is slender and lean, but not particularly muscular, and stands at about 5'6". His facial features are soft and make him look younger than he is, but are still fairly masculine. His hair is a pale ash blond and he has a few grey hairs despite being so young--but they blend in pretty well to the blonde. His eyes are green, and he has rather pale skin.
His clothing is usually rather plain: just collared shirts and slacks and not much else. Unless he is training with his weapons, in which case he will wear more casual clothing.
Vanyan is a decent looking guy, but doesn't particularly stand out from a crowd--which is very much intentional because Vanyan doesn't like to draw attention to himself.
Personality Description: Vanyan is an utter recluse. He very rarely ever leaves his mansion and if he does you will never see him alone. Generally Jin is the only one that can manage to drag him out. Jin may be bombastic and drive him crazy sometimes, but he also feels very safe when she is around.
He is distrusting and prone to paranoia. He is also quick to panic and frequently has panic attacks--sometimes over nothing even. Needless to say, he has a difficult time making friends but if he does come to trust someone, then he becomes very devoted. Vanyan is a very sensitive and kind man and to have that trust broken would absolutely destroy him.
Vanyan is also very artistic. He loves to paint, draw, make ceramics, create sculptures, and even make jewelry. He's very shy about his talent though, and keeps all his work in one large art room that he generally doesn't let anyone else go in.
Powers:
Force Field: Vanyan has the ability to create a shielded dome around himself to block out both physical and magical attacks. The dome is tinted black and only partially see-through. The dome also blocks out all outside noise. Sometimes if Vanyan is feeling overwhelmed or having a panic attack, he will lock himself into the dome to block out everything around him.
Maintaining the shielded dome takes a lot of energy for Vanyan, meaning that if he maintains it too long he could eventually over exhaust himself and drop the shield. He can keep the shield up for quite a while, however: about 5 hours if he isn't being attacked. If he's being attacked, then he's going to be stressed and become exhausted quicker.
Power negation: Vanyan also has the ability to negate other people's powers. Depending on how strong the other person's power is, Vanyan may either block it entirely, or only partially. For example, if someone were to use a powerful pyro kinetic attack on him, Vanyan might only suffer a minor first degree burn instead of the far more severe injury he may have received otherwise.
Vanyan is not very strong with his negation power, so someone else with the ability to negate will most likely be able to overpower him.

Vanyan was born to a wealthy family of Russian Americans in Maryland, two years after his older brother Lazar. Life was pretty uneventful until Vanyan was 13, Lazar was 15, and both discovered that they had powers beyond that of regular humans.
Both Lazar and Vanyan were born with power negation. Lazar was also granted with a power he calls 'Blade Master'--which allows him to form any sort of weapon from his body. Vanyan, on the other hand, was given a more defensive force field ability that allows him to form a protective dome around himself. Unfortunately, Lazar was always the stronger brother and could easily overpower Vanyan with his power negation to do whatever he pleased to his younger brother.
After the awakening of his powers, Lazar started to change. His powers seemed to be making him more angry and violent, as well as making him unable to feel empathy toward other people. Lazar slowly became more and more of a sociopath, and started to abuse Vanyan physically, mentally, and as they got older: sexually.
Their parents noticed a change in Lazar and had him go into therapy but they were left in the dark about the powers the two brothers had, as well as the abuse Lazar was inflicting on Vanyan.
In an unfortunate series of events, Vanyan's mother died in a car accident, and his father died of lung cancer not long after. Their wealth was distributed equally between the two brothers when Vanyan was only 22 and Lazar was 24. Lazar kept the family mansion, while Vanyan moved out as soon as possible. Vanyan discovered Manta Carlos Islands and decided to move into a mansion on one of the smaller, less populated islands. It was quiet, peaceful, and far away from his brother.
Vanyan had not given Lazar his new address, but somehow his older brother found him anyway. Surprisingly though, he does not come around very often which is a huge relief to Vanyan. His very few visits, however, are always rather...weird.
For Vanyan's 25th birthday, Lazar decided to drop off a special gift: a voluptuous selkie sex slave. Why Lazar thought Vanyan would want a selkie sex slave was completely beyond him, but either way, Lazar passed on Jin's seal skin and gave Vanyan complete control over her.
Vanyan initially wanted nothing to do with Jin. However, he was also scared of her and was afraid to give her seal skin right back to her. So, she had to stick around for a while until Vanyan felt that he could safely let her go. (Sure, he could have just given her the skin and hidden himself in his dome--but initially Jin was so enraged that he was worried she might wait around until he had to let his guard down and attack him just out of spite...and to be perfectly honest she probably would have done that.)
Despite the odd situation, Jin finally calmed down and the two even managed to bond despite being complete opposites. Even when Vanyan finally felt that he could safely give Jin her skin back, Jin decided to stick around and learn more about humans and their culture.
Shortly after Vanyan had moved to Manta Carlos, he decided to train himself in a few different weapons--just as an additional protection besides his force field. Well, a few different weapons became a lot of different weapons, and next thing he knew, Vanyan had a massive collection. Jin became very interested in the whole concept of weaponry, and had Vanyan train her.
Since then, Jin has been in and out of Vanyan's mansion. He always keeps a bathtub full in his house so that she can always teleport there. He also keeps clothing around for her to wear...seeing as she often arrives naked.
Because of the abuse from his brother, Vanyan is very distrusting of people in general and very rarely leaves his mansion. He trusts Jin, and a small number of workers that help maintain his mansion, and that's about it. Otherwise, he has no desire to go outside--pretty much only Jin can get him to occasionally leave the mansion.
