Stefan continued to stroll with Carcass a bit as he spoke if his time so far in town. His arm crossed again as his eyes caught the movement of a bird near them. Upon turning his full attention to the bird, he noticed Carcass' features soften to a more genuine smile.

His voice showed and paused for a moment when he saw it, but he picked up shortly after as not to bring attention that he noticed. It was her moment that he wasn't going to ruin by bringing her up.

"Pretty wasn't it?"

Stefan was of course referring to the bird they had both seen and watched until it flew off.

Stefan had seemed to be so focused on talking about himself, that Carcass imagined he hadn't noticed the short moment she had. But the question he presented after the bird flew away made it evident that he had indeed noticed it. Carcass mentally berated herself; first in the community center with Lili and now with the bird. Both times Carcass had let herself slip in company, that wasn't good. She needed to keep her guard up, needed to appear cold. Even if beautiful creatures of mother nature were near.
But...

Carcass could lie about not knowing Freya, she could lie about how she felt or almost anything else. But she could never lie about the beauty of nature. So, to Stefan's question she merely nodded and quietly, almost in awe, said
"Yes. It is."
The emotions of joy in her voice were not for Stefan, they were for the bird. And Carcass had a feeling Stefan understood that. Stefan seemed to be more perceptive than Carcass felt comfortable with.

The pause before answering. The short answer itself. She hasn't expected Stefan to notice. He smiled to her and looked back in the direction they were moving. They didn't seem to have any particular destination. Well Stefan didn't anyway.

"I could show you its nest. I found it the other day here. Could do a little bird watching."

His voice was welcoming and calm. He held no sense of malice or cruel intent in his body or anywhere else. Carcass seemed to be worried about something so Stefan figured maybe he could take her somewhere she could find her own joy and not have it be caused by someone else.

"Whaddya say?"

The ache arrived to dampen the joy, when Stefan asked whether or not Carcass wanted to go see the nest of the bird. Because going into a forest would be close to torture for Carcass, especially if her face or any part of her bare skin touched any plants. The plants would die the moment they touched her, and Carcass...wouldn't be able to bear it.

So, with barely any hesitation and her expression tightening slightly with sorrow, Carcass shook her head.
"I wish to leave the denizens of nature to live in peace."
Carcass answered, only part of the reason why she couldn't go. One part of it was that if she did go see something as beautiful as a bird and its nest she would want to do it on her own.
"But do feel free to go without me."
Carcass mentioned as an afterthought, giving Stefan a reason to leave.

"Well...if you do decide to go see, its right along the path here, make a right up ahead. Big oak tree. Can't miss it."

Stefan pointed along a concrete path that people used to get around the park. He didn't know what she had going on, but it was obvious that he wasn't going to get through to her by simply following her and talking.

"I do hope you go watch them a little. It really is nice to watch."

With this last sentence he slowed his pace a little falling back from her. He wasn't done enjoying the day, but wasn't going to bother Carcass further if she didn't want company.

He was sure she'd remember him when they crossed paths again. Stefan wasn't giving up, just shifting to a longer game plan. He wasn't just gonna let someone that knew and spoke his language vanish from his life without knowing a little more.

Stefan pointed out the position of the nest, and even though Carcass told herself she didn't need that information her mind still stored it away, remembered it. Carcass berated herself; she shouldn't even go see such a nest, it would make her as sorrowful as it would make her happy. What was the point?

Following the manners that had been pounded into her mind Carcass nodded and said
"I thank you for this fact, no matter how irrelevant it is to me."
Yes, Carcass did put some of her frustration and irritation into that sentence. She felt bad, but had not been able to help herself. Stefan had proved himself to be surprisingly perceptive, certainly he had seen Carcass' reaction to his query. And still he had gone out of his way to inform her of the location of the nest. In a way that was a cruel thing to do.

But it seemed like their conversation would now come to an end, as Stefan purposefully fell behind. Carcass turned her head slightly, gave Stefan another curtsy as a farewell and then floated away. She sped up as she got far away enough from Stefan, she wanted to get out of the park so she could return to her residence and cry.
