New teacher orientation: It was looooong, and full of common sense, and Chi was glad when it was over.

While many of the new teachers were taking notes, Chi didn’t bother to bring anything to write on. Not out of laziness, but because she was confident in her own memory retention to not need to. Between that, the fact she was already wearing a lab coat despite not even teaching her first class yet, and simply being a giant snake woman—Chi definitely caught people’s attention.

There were definitely a few eyes on her, and she could feel them. Much to her disappointment, it was mostly just men’s eyes. It was a bit…uncomfortable for her, so while many stayed in the orientation room to socialize and get to know each other, Chi slipped out into the hallway. A sigh of relief escaped her when she found herself alone for the moment.

That was one of the strange things about Manta Carlos she needed to adjust to—being surrounded by men. That was far from the case back home, where lamia dominated and men were a very small minority by comparison.

She found herself debating what she wanted to do. She sort of wanted to meet her fellow teachers, but all those men looking at her strangely…should she try and stay, or just head back to Corsalyn’s dorm? She curled her tail up as she planted herself next to the door, pondering to herself on what course of action she should take.

Sandor had never truly been a teacher working at a school, but he'd worked as a tutor, and he had enough experience with academia that the majority of what the orientation had covered was enough to make him want to fall asleep. The fact that the orientation was happening during the (fairly annoying) daylight wasn't much better. A night session had been offered, but with none of the other teachers requiring it, Sándor hadn't wanted to make them go through all that extra work just for him.

So he'd sat in the daylight, bothered but trying not to show it as everything had been explained. He'd taken a map and the staff handbook, and then he'd called it a day, excusing himself.

He very nearly ran into one of his fellow teachers, who was waiting just outside the door. He'd noticed her--it was hard not to, considering her size--but hadn't paid her all that much attention. A naga? A lamia? Something like that. There were a variety of species that had the lower half of a snake, and as far as he could tell there wasn't any significant difference.

But making friends with the other teachers was for the best, wasn't it?

"What will you be teaching?" Sándor asked conversationally as he stepped out of the way of the door, clearly looking towards the snake woman as he attempted to start a conversation.

Chi was relieved when she looked up and saw Sandor, because he wasn’t one of the men who had been staring at her. She would much rather talk to him than one of the other men.

Also what a snazzy dresser! She may not have been attracted to men, but she could appreciate anyone who dressed well.

“I’m a chemistry teacher!” she said with enthusiasm, adjusting the collar of her lab coat to further emphasis her position. Her anxiety was quickly diminished as she felt like she was speaking to someone more on 'her level', not just some weirdo trying to get familiar with Lamia anatomy.

“My name is Chi,” she said with a smile, tilting her head. “What’s your name? What are you teaching?”

If Sándor had the ability to read minds, he would have enjoyed Chi's line of thought. He was proud of his fashion sense, and while he overdressed the majority of the time, he found it fun. There was nothing wrong with being too dressy, outside of the fact that you drew attention, but on the island drawing attention was not nearly as much of a risk as it had been before.

"Ah," Sándor said. "It seems some of my students will be passing to you. I'll be teaching a variety of lower level mundane subjects, including grade school science."

Really, he was teaching ab it of everything. Math, English, Hungarian, Latin, Science... he'd learned a great deal about the world in the hundreds of years he'd lived, and he'd always enjoyed spreading it.

"My name is Sándor Oláh," he said, his demeanor calm despite how bored he'd been. The sun wasn't hurting him, but it wasn't making things easier for him either. "Are you new to the island as well, then?" Most teachers seemed to be.
