The First Meal

Soujiro was on his way out to find a restaurant when he took a look inside of the cafeteria. He saw, not slop or terrible looking food, but well-prepared food from all over the world that looked fantastic. He decided to eat in the cafeteria since he really didn't know his way around the area yet. He arrived in a normal car, but he was so into the scenery that he forgot to make a mental map of it. Anyway, Soujiro went into the cafeteria, buzzing with people of different races, genders, and nationalities, and got some pizza (the Italian kind) and sat at a table full of people. He decided not to say a word and ate in peace.

There was a rule about treading into the forest: you always, always took a weapon. This was not a problem for Lumine, who by trade tended to carry her hammer just about everywhere, or in this case, drag it behind her with a bloody bear carcass wrapped over the handle as she walked, slightly bloody herself and appearing a bit upset as she burst in through the doors of the cafeteria.

At first, this practice had seemed extremely strange for the students of the academy, at least until they realized that Lumine occasionally went hunting for the workers of the cafeteria. The meat and fish that was imported to the island was often not up to snuff for some of the more diserning citizens of the island...and occasionally, a fresh kill, blood and guts often included, had to be brought in.

After the students realized what they were eating, they were often grateful for a meal that was wood-fired instead of processed. Sure, the normal stuff was good, but a fresh meal was often all that stood between some students and a murder spree. After seeing who had come through the door, everyone went back to their meal.

"Special delivery. Careful for any bones, I might have shattered the poor things hip."

Shaking her head and grabbing a nearby roll of paper towels, Lumine took a seat, facing outwards and starting to wipe the blood out of her face and hands.

"Ugh, remind me to stop wearing a white bodysuit..."

Which was spattered with blood as well. Damn.

Soujiro saw the girl who just walked into the cafeteria. She had a huge hammer with her and she brought in a dead animal to give to the cafeteria workers. He thought "...at least it's fresh. " The girl sat right by him, using a paper towel to clean herself. I looked at her huge...hammer and it was a thing of beauty. "Just from the blood on your face and hands, I can tell that you're a good hunter. How long have you hunted game of that size?" Soujiro said to the girl beside me. He took a bite of his pizza.

Most people simply didn't mind the kineticist. She was a known fighter, and occasionally the things she did defied normal social standards...like bringing in fresh bear from a forest that was known to kill people on occasion. As long as you stayed out of certain areas of the forest however, it was generally safe.

One person sitting next to her however apparently felt the need to hold a conversation...not exactly her cup of tea, but entertaining nonetheless.

"Hardly a good hunter. You just walk into a nest and pick a fight. Hardly hunting in the common sense. One swing, and they're pretty much done. So...not long. Maybe a month or something? I think this is like my fourth one. They last awhile."

Soujiro listened to her story and was amazed. She makes it look like it's the easiest thing ever. Also, given the fact that she can lift that huge hammer of hers, she must of been pretty strong. "You must be pretty strong to lift a hammer of that size. Even I wouldn't probably be able to lift that. You're amazing! *Extends hand to her* Excuse me for being rude, but my name is Kurokawa Soujiro. Today is my first day here." Soujiro thought it would be cool to have a strong friend.

"Well, not really strong. I cheat a little bit."

Lumine peeled back the skin on her left hand, distinctly showing that at least that particular arm wasn't actually organic. Instead, a carbon fiber skeleton of what should have been her hand was in its place. Of course, there was a bit more to her strength than just a cybernetic arm...but that didn't need to be talked about.

The Kineticist slipped the cover back on, much like a glove, and shook his hand...not particularly impressed by her own ability, or Soujiro's apparent attempt at flattery.

"Lumine Symington. Welcome to Starlight Academy. I hope the experience is...enlightening, at the very least. I don't much care for the place, but to each their own."

"I don't really care for the place either, but I could say that the experience will probably be cool. It seems she just has a biotic arm to use as strength. Well, that's...unique. "Since you seemed to show me your power, it would probably be rude to not show mine. My power *holds two fingers up and sends electricity between them* is electricity. I can manipulate it in anyway I want, even *pulls electricity from a wall socket and makes a big hammer* make solid objects, like this replica of your hammer. "

"That's probably the one thing this place has got going...although I can't say the experience has been a fun one yet."

Always the eternal pessimist, but yet, Lumine didn't have any real urge to do anything about it. She knew full well her problems with the school were entirely in her mind. Soujiro was seemingly the same, but he appeared to have gotten a little carried away with showing off his ability. It was common of most students; but if there was one thing that her adoptive mother had taught her, it was that subtlety was a huge virtue.

Lumine didn't listen to her family much, but not showing off was something that Lumine felt everyone should get accustomed to. Abilities made them unique...but it didn't define them.

"I uh, I think you got it wrong. My arm isn't my ability. My arm is the result of it."

Physics was something of a bitch. And although Lumine was visibly impressed with the 'replica' of her hammer...it wasn't quite right.

"The replica is okay, but it's missing detail. A...personality of sorts."

Or in Lumine's case, a person. The hammer wasn't really a hammer at all. A human hand formed out of the handle and waved momentarily before popping back in.

"See what I mean? This is Terrene. She's my sister, and a teacher at the school. I think she's busy grading or something. I don't know.
