Throughout the year, the island of Manta Carlos hosts many events. Every month there are anywhere from one to three events, both on the forum and in the ICC. Most of these are to add flavor to the setting, to give a backdrop for things happening in characters’ lives, or to shake things up and make life on the island more interesting.
There are two types of events, and the number of events in a given month will vary.. You can always find the current month's events by checking the monthly post in the event forum.
Holidays exist to provide flavor to the setting, and are entirely player handled. If you want your character to participate in a holiday, you can do so freely. You don't have to sign up, or worry about when you're doing it. You're free to make open threads celebrating the holiday, or your own private threads.
Participating in holidays is also a part of our challenge system, encouraging players to involve them in their character's stories.
Active events are staff organized events. They may involve a significant change to the setting, and can be either in the forum or in the ICC. Some events have unique mechanics, such as posting anonymously, while others might include randomly being matched with other players. These events are always organized by the staff, and some are even directly modded by them. The amount of staff participation in an active event varies, but no two are the same.
Active events may also allow players to raise a flag in order to signal the level of danger they're okay with for their character.

Flags are intended to allow players to inform mods about how much damage mods are allowed to do to their characters as a result of chance or the actions of other players. There are three possible flags:
No Flag: This character will not be affected by random staff events. Actions taken by other players (such as friendly fire) may have minor effects on your character, but will not have lasting effects.
Yellow Flag: This flag indicates your character may face a (temporary) injury from random staff events or the actions of other players. They may be sent to the hospital, or otherwise be hindered or unable to be roleplayed for a short while. This scales based on the character themselves. A normal human might end up breaking a limb, but a character who respawns may die and have to come back normally.
Red Flag: This flag indicates your character may face serious trauma from random staff events or the actions of other players. This will almost never involve randomly killing off your character, but can include things like, for a normal human, totally losing a limb. For someone more durable (or those who respawn), this can include death. If taken advantage of by a mod, it could seriously affect your character.
Raising a flag is not a guarantee it will happen to your character, it simply gives staff the option. However, flags only affect random and external factors. The consequences of your characters actions do not take flags into account. If your no-flag character jumps down an elevator shaft, that doesn't mean they'll walk away.
Raising flags may also have bonuses depending on the event. Certain sidequests, mini-events, and other bonuses may only be available to those with raised flags.
