It had been, to say the least, a long month. March was over, swept out at last, and the virus had gone with it. People were better, for the most part, although some people had lingering after effects. He'd seen demons with their skin still tinted red, elementalists still shooting off the exact wrong element. Angelo himself was fine, the worst of the symptoms having been not nearly as bad as they could have been. He could have caught Toskada. He could have caught a lot of things. Instead he'd gotten away with being short as what was mostly his worst symptom.
While a few cops were still on duty--you couldn't exactly have every cop off--the majority of those who weren't actively on duty had opted to show up for a party. There wasn't exactly a deeper meaning to it (nothing official anyway), but it was obvious enough what they were all celebrating. Not the capture of Holmes, who was still at large, but instead the fact that they were all okay. No deaths. No one had died from the virus, even if several had some close, and that was something to celebrate.
The break room had been decorated (slightly tacky, in Angelo's opinion), and food and treats set out for everyone to enjoy. All branches had been invited, whether they were involved in forensics or standard police work, and Angelo had arrived a bit early, ready to enjoy himself. He'd already helped himself to a soda, and without any sort of delay he decided to grab a spot on one of the couches, letting out a happy sigh.
At least he wasn't on duty this time.
