Quentin flung his feet over the edge of the building and look down cautiously, it was high and windy, whipping his hair into odd ruffled shapes without settling for too long until the wind took it in other directions. He pulled his lighter out of his pocket along with a packet of cigarettes and snapped the box open, pulling out a new and fresh one and flicked the flame on his lighter pushing the cigarette into his mouth and lighting it. He made a shield with his hand to block the wind from stealing his little ball of fire and the cigarette was alight.

He took a long drag and felt the nicotine raising through his blood reducing his adrenaline and shakiness considerably, he was awash with relief and his craving had been busted. He felt sane and calm and sitting up on the roof chilled him to the bone so his cigarette gave his warmth. Some of the ash was blown up into the air swirling around in little hot dances before burning up in the brashness of the wind from being so high up. Quentin puffed the smoke back out into little rings formed through O shapes that his lips made, almost close to pouting adding a little extra breeze force to propel the smoke rings into the open and away from him.

Layla was flying above the school, wind blowing the feathers on her wings. She loved flying through the air, and the school was a great place to do it. It was absolutely hilarious to see what people did when they thought they weren't being watched. Back on her home planet of Featherina, everyone lived on the assumption that they were always being watched. This was mainly because the government- corrupt and broken as it was- pretty much watched
everyone, in some way or another, 24/7.
That was why she was on Earth at all- to find people to join her freedom fighting organization, Day of Wrath. She didn't really care what the other students did, unless it involved her organization. But sometimes humans did some really dumb things. For example, she'd seen a guy graffiting a wall of the school. That could get you executed on Featherina! But some things were even more dumb- like this guy she'd just noticed sitting on the tower roof. He was puffing away at a cigarette. Layla just couldn't understand why people filled their bodies with nicotine that why. Did they want to die of lung cancer? Silently, she landed behind him, folding her wings. "You shouldn't smoke," she said, "It's bad for you."

Quentin jumped and puffed his smoke he had been holding in and gentling filtering out of his nose, he turned to face the girl and was very surprised.Quite attractive. And... with wings. A bonus. He cursed himself, he promised he was going to lay off the women for a time but she was intriguing, nothing he had seen from around here. She was very safe he guessed. "I know what I'm doing sweetheart," he took another drag and blew it out away from her. She obviously didn't like it and didn't want to upset her by blowing it into her face. He swung his legs back and folded them watching the girl quizzically, wondering if she was from around here. "Were you spying on me?" He decided to not add anything to that especially not what he'd been thinking I know I'm good looking but just come say hi.

She raised one reddish brown eyebrow. Really? He knew what he was doing? Idiot. Besides, she doubted she'd loose the whole is smoking really bad? Argument. "You know what you're doing? Ha." She folded her wings neatly. This could take a while. "Are you going to say that in ten years when you have to smoke out of a hole in your throat because your windpipe is so damaged you can't even breath through your mouth, but you can't stop cause you're so addicted? When you have lung cancer, will you still say you know what you're doing?" Humans were so stupid. They thought they knew what they were doing even once they had ruined their lives. Did they have no sense of self preservation? They couldn't even admit they were wrong. "Look, I hate to preach to you," that wasn't true, "but really, you have to quit before it's too late."

"I could smoke cigarettes all day, it's the only good thing that pyrokinesis has. I can light my ciggies without a lighter." He smiled at her raising an eyebrow back at her. He held the cigarette between his lips carefully and took a couple of extremely short puffs and swallowed the carbon monoxide gas. "I know the consequences of smoking, don't you think my mother has lectured me already. You don't need to feel her boots, honey." Quentin didn't want to go into too much detail about his smoking habits but it was a way of relieving stress and gave him some sense of belonging and a use for his power. He looked at the fox that had popped next to the girl and he watched him circle her legs like a cat. He rolled his eyes at the fox, who caught the gesture and just ignored him. The fox signified jealousy and Quentin assumed that the girl was jealous of him because he was not consciously jealous of her.

Good for this guy's mom, she thought. At least SOME of the humans were sensible! And was he serious? He used pyrokinesis to light cigarettes?! "Seriously? You could use your powers to, like, put out burning buildings! To power the school! There's so much you could do." You could maybe even burn the smell of tobacco off your clothes, she thought. Really, it was absolutely disgusting! Didn't smokers know they smelt bad? Why would anyone smell that way willingly? Moronic humans. They were almost as bad as the corrupt politicians back on her home planet.

Quentin woke up into reality and realised that sweet talking her wasn't going to persuade her in any way, so he decided to put on the bad boy's act. He had to be irrestible like that, otherwise he would resort to normal Quentin. "How would I be able to put out burning buildings? I could start the fire if I chose to with my careless use of power but I'm not stupid enough to leave a burning cigarette butt as much as you might think I would." The fox receded backwards and blended into the light blue-grey of the sky and gently disappeared. Hey, you... come back! Quentin shouted in his mind Why you filthy little rat but the fox did not return and he looked up at the girl who still looked displeased at him. "Please lighten up a bit. I won't smoke around you if that's what you want. Would that make you feel better? It's only a tiny habit. It's better than taking recreational drugs... right?" He waited for conformation before saying anything else, she was too stubborn and opinionated for him to want to get into an argument with. He knew that she would win hands down.
