Madlumay was patiently waiting in the classroom, She was wearing her usual clothes, black hoodie, grey knee high pants and converse shoes. Mads was about to meet her partner in the secret Santa event. She was sitting near the window, looking at the field of the school. Mads felt like she shouldn't be here. She yearned to be outside of the room, strolling. She shouldn't have been a part of this, if it weren't for her mother, Cristina.

Madlumay lived there in the island for barely 3 weeks. The people of the island amazed her. The great variety of the living ang non-living piqued her interest. Mads spent most of her time exploring the new environment and observing people. In these three weeks, the only person that she got to know is her room mate. They didn't talk often because Mads was always outside of her dorm, touring. Cristina was worried about Mads not having any friends yet. Mads was perfectly okay with it, but her mother thought that it was abnormal. So when Mads mentioned the Secret Santa event to her mom, Cristina won't stop nagging her about it. Cristina saw this as an opportunity for Mads to make a friend or two. Madlumay, being an obedient child at 17, agreed to join the event

After a week of researching and brainstorming with Cristina, Mads finally decided what gift she'll be handing. She did not know much about the girl she got paired up with, but Mads was hoped that this girl, Lei Feng, will like her present , or at least not throw it away. She wanted to make sure that her present will fit Lei so, she got three sizes of the gift. The three were inside her backpack. Each were wrapped in plain sky blue paper and adorned with navy blue ribbon. When she sees Lei Feng personally, then she can finally deicide which size she'll be giving. She'll give the extra two sets then to Cristina to sell.

She then finally heard the door open. Mads looked behind and saw a cute girl with blue eyes. She waited for Lei to speak.

So Lei was kind of hype!

She wasn't Christian at all, but she liked this city tradition of "Christmas" and their culture of gift giving. Lei was personally a huge fan of gift receiving. Being surprised and getting things were pretty high on her top ten list of favorite things, right before "Netflix" but after "her friends." Of course, she wasn't all that sloppy with the giving part either. She was poor, but she had a lot of skills, and people that bitched about handmade have certainly never gotten a handmade gift from her. It was a carefully sewed brown wool coat, finely decorated with white yarn, made with love in every stitch because she was too scared of using a sewing machine.

Her gift? Perfect. Wrapping? Flawless. It had a big fancy ribbon with three layers. God mode. Do not doubt her. She was as powerful as she was cute.

Giving the gift? Uhhh. All right. That was kind... of... Well, it would be silly to be good at everything, and if you ask her, this mechanic was kind of dumb. Wouldn't not knowing who got you the thing be more... exciting? Or something. Lei was so bad at meeting new people, ahh. She wished Sid or Clarence were at least tangentially involved so she could hide behind them or something. She really hoped they don't open the present in front of her because that would be yikes.

She fidgeted and pulled the gift out from her backpack, offering it weakly. "Madlumei? Right? Um. Here. M-Merry Christmas?"

Madlumay looked down to Lei's feet. "Perfect" she thought.

"Madlumei? Right? Um. Here. M-Merry Christmas?" Lei Feng said.

"Okay, act normally and don't do anything stupid now" her brain screamed. Madlumay removed her hoodie and smiled at Lei. Mads stood "Nice to finally meet you Ms. Lei Feng" she said while bowing her head slowly. She reached for the gift and put it atop of the table she was sitting on. From her backpack, she slowly pulled out her present. Inside of it was a pair of size seven glass shoes. The shoes was strengthened with magic, making the shoes way less fragile.
She offered her gift to Lei. "Merry Christmas" she greeted while doing a slight bow. "Thank you for the gift, Ms. Lei." Mads grabbed her gift from the table then smiled. She felt the soft wool underneath the wrapper. "I must say, this is gorgeously wrapped." Mads thought that the gift wrapper was a gift itself. She thought it'll be such a waste to untie the ribbons. It looked so pretty. Madlumay always had a weakness for adorable objects.

"Yeah, uhm, if you don't mind, will you open the gift now?" Mads uttered. "I know it's weird for me to ask you to do so but uhm, I may uhm, be required to do some adjustments on the item ". Mads suggested. She was hoping she got her size right.

Lei flushed at the sudden slight bowing and bowed too. She was more used to rude behavior common to people in the island and the manners sort of, uh, caught her off-guard. She'd done so well blending in that she forgot she was... usually more polite than this. Lei remembered that she was royalty and immediately bowed back. She couldn't meet her politeness with rudeness.

She also called her she! Ahh, she wasn't used to this!!! It made her stomach flutter nicely inside her body. She was more used to people being rude about this, but she wasn't rude at all, or maybe she just didn't notice anything was off? Hm.

"M-Merry Christmas! Thank you! I hope you like my gift, er." She talked really fast, on account of nervousness. Geez, it was just meeting nice strangers. Get it together, self. She raised her gift. "Thank you for the gift too! Open it...? Um, all right."

Lei sat on the nearby bench and opened the present on her lap. Inside were glass shoes. Her eyes sparkled. "Oh no... Just like Cinderella." She placed her hands on her cheeks. "Ahh..."

Now she felt kind of bad. How much did this cost? Even though hers was handmade, it was kind of... It was perfect.

Well, she hoped she would like her gift still.

"Size adjustments? Should I try it on? All right..." Lei removed her fuzzy pink snowboots and put it on, and noticed it was... too big. Oh no. Her eyes burned, disappointment looming. Stupid feet. They were tiny, she was like, two sizes smaller than this. She moved them a little. "...I-It's fine! I'll just... fill the end with some paper shavings. L-life hacks, right?"

"Oh no... Just like Cinderella." Mads was delighted to see Lei smile. It has been a long time since she felt genuinely happy for someone else.

Mads watched Lei put on the glass shoes. Mads widened her eyes in shock when she saw the shoes was too big. "...I-It's fine! I'll just... fill the end with some paper shavings. L-life hacks, right" she heard her say.

"Oh God, thank you so much, Mama." she thought. Good thing Mads' mother gave her the three sizes. "Oh please, Ms.Lei, I have a quick fix for that". she said while taking a step closer. Mads wanted to hug Lei so bad. Lei was so adorable. She stopped herself and quickly turned around. She got the smallest box from her bag and gave it to Lei. "Please, don't mind this. I'll have this one returned" Mads knelt and took the shoes out from Lei's feet. She realized that she was like being a prince to her. Mads giggled. "Sorry" She stood up. Well, this has gone awkward. Mads grabbed her gift from Lei. "Well, uhm, thank you again." She squeezed the item. she felt the softness of the wool. Mads began to wonder what the item might be,.

The fact that they suddenly looked like Cinderella and Prince Charming was not beyond her notice, believe her. It was kinda... well. She couldn't help but blush a little. An invasive thought of: Hey, is this my first lesbian experience? popped into her head, and she quickly shoved it aside.

That was inappropriate, self! Oh my god!

She took the small box and checked the size. She didn't need to put it on to know that it would definitely fit. She beamed up at Madlumay, absolutely delighted.

"Um... Thanks! I love it! I hope you didn't spend too much getting another pair, er? I-if you want me to pay for that other one, it's okay too."

This was it, right? They did the Secret Santa?

That felt kind of... abrupt. She kind of liked her, all things considering. She put her snow boots back on, because as much as she liked the glass slippers, they wouldn't do very well on the cold. As she adjusted her scarf after, she peered into Madlumay's face.

"Hey, so, I mean... Let's hang out sometime, all right? You can find me at the Science college." She pointed awkwardly at the college. "I can also give you my number if you want??"

Mads smiled. "Oh don't worry you don't have to pay for the other pair. It's alright." She was glad that their mood lightened up. Mads felt proud of herself. She could handle a proper human interaction after all. And who knows, maybe sooner or later she and Lei could be good friends. After that, maybe she'll gain more. Mads felt a tug in her chest. She looked down, remembering that she was used to being alone. She felt comfortable in the shadows. The meaning of the word "friend" seemed to have lost in Mads' mind.

"Hey, so, I mean... Let's hang out sometime, all right? You can find me at the Science college." She saw Lei point at a nearby building. "I can also give you my number if you want??

"The Science college? Well, I'll be studying there too, soon." Mads looked at the building. Hang-out sometime? She wondered what might the "hang-out" mean. What does people in this place do when hanging-out? Mads didn't have the slightest idea. Hang-out. Hang-out. Hang-out. Mads' eyebrows met. She wasn't sure if it's okay to assume Lei is considering her as a friend now. Suddenly her brain screamed "Number!". Mads looked up and realized that Lei was waiting for her to say something more. "Oh, you're number." Mads reminded herself not to be rude. She quickly got her smart phone from her bag and gave it to Lei. Mads offered her a sheepish smile and looked down again.

This was okay, right? It wasn't too weird to give other people her number?

Eh. This Madlumay girl seemed okay in her book. She wasn't a serial killer, probably.

Lei inputted her number, putting her name down as "Lei!", and handed the phone back with a smile. "I'll catch you around?" she said, eyebrows raised expectantly.

"Uhm, yeah sure" Mads replied. "See you around." She grabbed her bag and put her hoodie on. "Thanks, again" she raised the gift handed to her. "Message you, soon. Call me up if you need anything." That's it, right? Mads was relieved that it was over. ."I. uhm.. I'll go ahead.' She smiled at Lei and left the room. At last, she's alone again.

Lei nodded. She couldn't imagine any situation where she would have to call a total stranger up for something that wouldn't be super awkward, but she appreciated the sentiment, beaming. "I will! See you!"

With her stuff stored safely in her bad, she zipped her winter coat up, wrapped her scarf around her mouth and headed out, a small smile on her lips.

All things considered, that went pretty well.
