Salvetti Bros. Booksellers
Located in Downtown Manta Carlos City, Salvetti Bros. Booksellers was founded
in the early 1920s by Italian brothers Claudio and Fabiano Salvetti, two young m-
en who immigrated to the island in search of opportunities to start a business. T-
he two had always expressed an appreciation for the written word, and so soug-
ht to found a local bookstore intent on gathering together works of literature of a-
ll languages.
At first, business was slow, and their customers few. Yet, through hard work and
determination, not to mention a large amount of debt, the duo's bookstore became
more and more profitable over the years. Another location was soon opened within
the city itself, and the brothers' inventory expanded markedly. Their overall popula-
rity lasted into the 1970s, but by that point the Salvetti Bros. had to outsource the
management of their stores due to their failing health. After their deaths at the han-
ds of both cancer (in Claudio's case) and old age (in Fabiano's case), the manage-
ment was passed from their sons to a retail bookseller in 1993.
Since then, with the creation of the internet, the store located in the heart of Manta C-
arlos City closed in 2000, with the original location maintaining regular business due to
a lasting customer base. The store is available at the following address, followed by ot-
