Name: Ryuk
Age: 15
Birthday: 9/01/02
Gender: Male
Species: Merman
Category: Student
Class: Highschool
Grade: 9th
Appearance Description:

Ryuk is a small individual. He's of average weight for his height, but his actual height is only 5' even. Skin is tan, eyes are an emerald green. Not shown, however, is his merman form, which has an aquamarine tail with two translucent fins. This can be somewhat indicated by the slight wideness of his hips in his regular form.

Personality Description: One won't fine many as painfully optimistic or as kindhearted as Ryuk, it's honestly a problem. He very much believes in the good in this world, though much of it comes from a sense of naivety due to spending almost his entire life under the sea in his little colony. There's many things of human culture he's still piecing together, but he understands the overall jist of it. He's quick to help someone in aid due to strong humanitarian instincts.

Unfortunately, this kindness is quite a flaw, as no matter how awful someone is, he believes there's a way to help them. And is willing to let himself get hurt over and over to do so, as his own needs often fall short of those around him. In fact, he's bad a voicing those issues to begin with, either by not realizing they're an issue, or more just by wishing to avoid conflict. Seeing it as the greater good to ignore it. He does well at helping, though, often taking on almost a maternal role when he cares for others. Hobbies he enjoys involves exploring and socializing.

Keep in mind Ryuk is extremely touchy, in the sensitive and physical department. He loves touching people- in fact it's how he talks to people, which is why he's developed this clingy nature.

Species Abilities: Water Manipulation: While there's some exceptions to this rule, most merpeople have a strong affinity to water, and some are even able to control it. This entails being able to move water around and change its state- either to gas, liquid, or solid.

This is limited, though, as it can only be used it if water is present. While in desperate times is it most likely possible to take water out of themselves to attack someone, this is a death sentence waiting to happen, as being without water is very dangerous merpeople. Fire can also easily overwhelm it unless massive amounts of water or ice are used.

The amount of water they can can use varies, depending on its intended state and how dehydrated they are. At their best the average is close to roughly one to two gallons of water, depending, though with proper training and dedication this amount can be doubled. over the course of years. Usually, this is reserved for "soldiers" in their colonies.

Strangely enough, perhaps due to being young, Ryuk cannot manipulate solid ice. He can turn water into ice, but once it's ice it's hard for him to return it to a liquified state. His specific limits at this moment is one gallon's worth of water.

Legs: Merpeople have the ability to take on a more human form. There's no real benefit to this, as it doesn't give them any real advantage except being able to walk on land. The amount of time one can hold this form varies from individual to individual, though this length of time tends to increase with age and practice.

Dehydration: This is a predominant weakness of merpeople, despite there being some exceptions. Water must be taken in to survive. Water can only be absorbed to its full potential in mer-form, but human form can take in water through ingesting it via mouth. It's a slower process, though.

When in their human form, wrinkling and overall feelings of dizziness begin after 12 hours with no exposure to water. After 24 hours with no water exposure death occurs- the problem is, mobility becomes difficult way before this, closer to the 14-18 hour mark. When they are in their full on mer-form, though, these numbers are decreased due to being more... exposed, per se. The human form is much like a barrier.

Powers:

Energy Transfer/Manipulation: This is most obviously limited by how easily someone can repel magic in general, and this seems to be weak to specifically dark magic users. However, the main jist of this is that Ryuk can exude a certain feeling and pour it into the individual- they'll often feel it expanding from within their very core if successful. This can be used to infuse pain or fear, but Ryuk has never in his life used it for those purposes. Instead, it's usually used to exude warmth, mainly to make cuddles and hugs that much more fun.

There is no real benefit to them aside from the feelings themselves, in this case. People experiencing this won't necessarily feel it's magic influence unless they're aware of the feeling of magic from prior experience- say they've been under spells before, or use magic themselves. The effect will also only last for as long as contact is kept. He cannot use this ability unless touching them.

Telepathy: As a final ability, Ryuk is telepathic. This, as with the Energy Transfer is limited by those who are either mentally strong enough to push it out, or just have magic abilities that block it. It is not, however, weak to dark magic. This also is only at its strongest when Ryuk is touching the person, hence why he's so cuddly. He cannot vocalize well enough to form genuine words, so this is his main form of communication.

When he uses this, one will feel it spurring from the center of their head. It has a slight echo to it, making it obvious that it's telepathy. His range for being able to send these messages if not touching them is roughly five feet. Beyond that, he cannot send his thoughts. He also can only send them to at most two people at a time, or he tires quickly.

Biography: Ryuk's story is a simple one, honestly. He is one of the sole survivors of a devastating case of dams being built on one portion of the ocean, causing his colony to completely die out overnight due to the loss of water. Only himself, his brother, and a few others managed to survive, but he has been separated from all of them. He only survived due to being in his mother's womb still.

He was adopted in by a neighboring, unharmed colony and put in an orphanage, where, while he made friends, he wasn't ever adopted. No one really wanted someone from another colony, it wasn't something they were comfortable with. It made him quite lonely at times, but he managed, and his Nana- the orphanage's teacher and caretaker- was very kind to him regardless. He views her as a mother, more than anything.

Despite loving his Nana, he wanted to explore the outside world a bit more- the land, specifically. He'd often watched humans swim around in their territory closer to the surface. To him, it didn't matter that they'd been the cause of his family's death. He wanted to learn, and perhaps eventually grow to strengthen bonds between the two species to avoid such issues again.

The colony.. wasn't fond of him going to an all human territory. So they compromised, allowing him to go to Starlight. And that is why, and how, he ended up here.

Additional Information: - Ryuk's current last name was not his actual last name- actually, he didn't have one before coming to the surface. One was only given to better classify him.

- Ryuk is, for all intensive purposes, mute save for his telepathy. He can, however, laugh and often makes tiny squeaking noises when excited. Even his laugh is a bit raspy, clearly weak. People speculate that nearly dying is part of the reason this is the case, as most merpeople have no problem talking out loud.

- Finally- he is aware his brother is alive. He only found him close to when he was leaving, though, which is why his brother, despite being in his 30s, never really adopted him. His brother does not approve of his life choices thus far.
