Another full moon meant another painful change. Sofia sighed and headed out the door of the house in the twilight, feeling the moon's song hit her as she headed into the woods that surrounded her home. Well - hers and Caius'. He was away again, she'd have to deal with this one by herself. Sofia stood in the trees and stared up at the moon, its song growing more intoxicating by the second, swirling in the air around her. The change took her, and she spent the next several minutes shifting before she shook out her fur, tapping the ground with her paws to steady herself. The wolf was awake, but it was working with her tonight, allowing her to remain in control.

Sofia tossed back her head and sung to the moon before taking off through the woods, stretching her legs. The wind tore through her fur as she picked up speed and headed for the park. She slowed down once she neared the area, trotting along as she weaved through some trees and found herself padding across the large, grassy area in the park's center. Most people were asleep by now, so the park was empty. She sat herself down on the grass and stared up at the moon, which gazed brightly back down at her, highlighting the white markings on her dark fur.

William hadn't fed since he'd gotten to this island. Almost a week now and he could feel himself starting to fade. He hadn't aged too noticeably yet, appearing somewhere in his early 30's, but he knew from experience that everything would rapidly worsen if this continued. Not to mention that if Maria didn't get to him first, his cravings alone would be nearly intolerable.

He wasn't sure if it was caution, lack of opportunity, or a subtle desire to resist his demon's influence that had got him to this point. But the doctor was tired, whatever the reason for it. He wanted to be alone, or as alone as he could ever be. So he'd chosen to go to the park. The wraith could've been alone in his own house, but Maria was cranky because she couldn't come out, and since he couldn't sleep, he'd just be attempting to read while she was harassing him inside his head.

Besides the open air made her presence more bearable. Perhaps because it made him feel smaller or because he could almost feel the breeze on his skin as he walked. He almost missed the wolf in the darkness, as lost in thought as he was, but the way the light highlighted his fur caught his eyes.

"Hello there," he said quietly. He would not normally speak with wolves, but on this island, he was pretty sure most wolves were actually werewolves. At least, wolves that were lying down in the park instead of away in the forest somewhere.

Sofia had heard the male's approach, had scented him, long before he'd come upon her. She'd hoped that he'd just leave her be, but instead, he'd spoken to her. Well, she couldn't be too anti-social...despite the monster that she tried not to think of herself as, she needed to be civil and interact with other people, wolf or no wolf. She turned her head to regard his figure. He was younger than Caius, perhaps, but he smelled like a corpse. The wolf stirred restlessly inside of her. It wasn't an appetizing smell...it was honestly a little sickening, like he'd been dead for a long time. She was coming to learn that on this island, just about anything was possible, including zombies. But he at least didn't start with groaning 'I want to eat your brains', or anything like that.

Blinking at the male, she reached out with her telepathic powers - they came in handy since she couldn't really talk in her wolf form. Hello, she responded, filling his head with the thought. It was a little intrusive to do to a stranger, but she didn't have any other way of communicating with him. I am Sofia, she added gently, hoping she wasn't being too scary. Big, six-foot-tall wolves could be scary to some people.

Even though this wolf was taller than him, that did not scare the wraith. For one thing, she was sitting down and didn't appear to be at all hostile. Plus even if she did attack him, he was sure that although he didn't know if he could drain a werewolf in wolf form, a wolf would not be able to damage him enough that he wouldn't heal. Besides he was sure he probably smelled dead enough that the only creature that would want to eat him would be a carrion-eater.

What did set off a jolt of sick fear in the man was the unwelcome intrusion into his mind. Perhaps this strange wolf was only speaking, but it felt far too similar to Maria's voice - William did not like telepathy. "Miss - Sofia? Please stay out of my head." There was a definite edge to his voice. He'd come out here to be alone and now Maria was laughing in his head at his uneasiness.

The man paused and looked at the wolf apologetically. He'd talked to her first and perhaps this was the only way she could communicate. "I am sorry, miss, I have my reasons to dislike hearing other voices in my thoughts. Is that the only way for you to speak?"

Even though he reeked of death, Sofia could not mistake the sharp scent of his fear when she spoke to him with her mind. He politely asked her not to use her telepathy, which confused her a little at first. How was she supposed to communicate if she couldn't use telepathy, anyways? Her body language, she supposed. Shifting now would cause her a world of hurt, so she wasn't going to try it. She'd just have to improvise.

She started an apology and then stopped. No telepathy. Okay. Instead, she got to all fours and dipped her head low, wagging her tail slowly and giving a soft whine. That would suffice for 'I'm sorry', she supposed. She could understand. Having someone else's voice in your head could be...unsettling. She supposed she should be more careful in the future.

In response to his question, she bobbed her head in a nod, keeping it low as she looked at him, her stance calm and as un-intimidating as she could make it, so he would know she wasn't upset or anything. She hoped he gleaned from the kind expression in her bright blue eyes that it was okay and she understood.

When Miss Sofia made her apologetic gesture, William realized she couldn't actually talk as a wolf. Perhaps he should have expected that, but he supposed this island was making talking animals commonplace. The man frowned at himself for letting his fear control him, for giving in to Maria even when she wasn't manipulating him.

He had been rude and it bothered him. Politeness and a few leftover morals were all he had left to connect him to humanity. "I am sorry. My name is Dr. Brown." The wraith probably seemed stiff and formal, which wasn't far from the truth, but this was normal for his generation.

Even though it appeared this wolf woman's only form of communication was telepathy, if he didn't count her kind attempts at body language for his sake, William still hesitated to give her permission. The demon in his head was enough for anybody.

"I... if you need to talk in my head you can." He fidgeted nervously with that statement, fighting his fear.
