Rory Beckett
" So rise and shine, now's the time to be alive, to stay awake and be with me a while - and smile."

APPEARANCE
Rory has a fairly androgynous figure which is rather thin from poor eating habits and stands at four foot eleven. Their auburn hair is actually shoulder length, but is kept in tight curls that make it to about chin length. Their jade green eyes are always darting around with concern at the island if not lighting up during conversations. They have that kind of face where they look sad upon default, their smile stretching across their cheeks and brightening up their whole face. While their body is very delicate, their hands and feet are rough from constant practice as their previous occupation as a trapeze artist.
Rory’s clothing well… as of right now, it is almost all performance outfits. Lots of extravagant fabrics or dresses from their performances, shimmering in all levels of light. Their shoes are not at all for walking long distances, so it’s not uncommon to see them just holding their slippers or flats while barefoot or with socks or stockings. Other than their performance outfits, they have a single tee shirt and oversized pajama pants that they used to travel or recover in. They have a very tiny collection of performance makeup and stickers to go on their cheeks.

PERSONALITY
Rory really is a kind person, and tries very hard to make sure that everyone has a fair chance and knows their worth. It kills them how easily people ignore it, or how people stamp them down. But they are, unfortunately, kind of a door-mat. They wave off people’s abuse of them as just people having a bad day… or week, or month, or year.
Despite being a performer, Rory finds more comfort in working behind the scenes and helping people privately. They can really only focus on one thing at a time, becoming extremely overwhelmed if there are too many things going at once - to the point in which too much can drive them to tears.
There are few things that Rory really thinks through. They follow their gut, going with whatever feels best or right at the time even in the heat of the moment. And while they try very hard to follow through on their work, they operate their best in heavy bursts of energy - or, like many people, like it.
Rory has little formal education, and is considered very behind. They’re actively taking supplementary classes to try and catch up, but often are too overwhelmed by the island and the workload that they can’t handle it all.
They are extremely uncomfortable with people mentioning anything that really makes them different from those on the island, especially their lack of powers and their piss poor current academic record. They have started growing a complex about it and has become very defensive on the subject, trying to prove that they’re worth something and are almost ashamed to be a powerless human.

HISTORY
Rory had been considered a problem child from the beginning.
An unwanted pregnancy was the first time they were hated, but by the time their mother had realized - it was too late. Once born, Rory was thrown into the foster system. They were held by a foster family for a few years, just enough until they could walk and babble. People said that Rory looked just like their first foster father, that it was hard to grasp that Rory was not his.
A cursed child, they called them next. After Rory was presented to their first foster family, the family started facing many problems. Financial trouble, leaks in the house, the mother laid off her job. It was awful, and the extended family blamed the introduction of Rory for it all. To help reduce strain on themselves both financially and from their family, Rory was given back.
Rory tried to behave, a child who learned to keep quiet from an early age and be out of the way. Cursed child, they continued to call them. There was more trouble that followed Rory’s return. Kids ran away from the orphanage, and some who were even freshly adopted would run away. The adults were caught doing illegal things. But with the rumors, stress, and fear - Rory’s name was spoken in hushed tones like they were the problem.
But, thankfully, someone came to light. A man, a strange man in extravagant clothing and an entertaining tone of voice found Rory to be perfect despite the rumors and warnings from other children. Rory was adopted at the age of seven, picked up with their small luggage of clothes and whisked away to a circus.
Rory was the adoptive son of the ringleader. It was a paradise for a child - animals who could do tricks and obey orders, carnival games, junk food all around, and beautiful new clothes just for them. They were family to the circus, and they were delighted.
But as they grew older, it got harder. Rory became apart of the acts - trapeze was their specialty while their body was small and indistinguishable in gender with some makeup and clothes. The food wasn’t for them, they had to eat the same tasteless food that came with the small budget made for their food.
Rory thought life was still great… even if their food wasn’t great or their hands hurt after a long day. It was a family, a home. But even that couldn’t last forever, right? Rory never knew exactly what happened to get it shut down. Rory only knew that one day they were performing, the next they were talking to a policeman on what they did, and the next they were calling the only number they remembered or the only name they trusted.
Their old friend Claire came for them, bringing them to the island and giving them a permanent home. Rory’s still adjusting to the island and to the new school… and all of this in general.
