Aside from her toned feminine build, there's nothing human about her. Head to toe, she's a shimmery pastel coral/rosey pink. Her skin has the look and feel of dolphin's skin, as it is rubbery and almost shiny. The only exception to this is on her joints, shoulders, and face as freckles- which are instead peppered with scales. These scales are iridescent, though sometimes have some traces of metallic gold within them, especially on her face.
In terms of her face, she has a heart-shaped face with very bold, big features. Her lips are full, pouty, and conceal two rows of small shark like-teeth. Her eyes are bigger than normal, but not bulgy or bug like. They are a darker pink color, with a slitted pupil that adjusts depending on the light. Her ears are shaped like fins, and have a translucent pink webbing between each section. On the top of her head is-you guessed it- tentacles. These thick tentacles are both metallic gold and white, with the opposite color being the underbelly of each. She can cut these tentacles off, and they can grow back on command painlessly.
As for the rest of her body, it's clear that Rio is a hodgepodge of many different sea creatures. Her hands are webbed like her ear-fins, and her nails are claw-like, though she keeps them neatly filed. Her feet are like this as well. On the back of her forearm and shins are flimsy fins in the same metallic gold color found on other places of her body. On the sides of her torso exist six slits for her gills-three on each side. She needs to keep this relatively damp, lest she shrivel up and die on land.

Depending on her mood, Rio has 3 styles- semi-formal menswear, sporty, or ultra feminine. She likes to experiment with style, although comfort is a must. Too tight and her scales start to itch. If that's the case, don't expect her to wear much more than a bathing suit. She enjoys learning about makeup and cosmetology as well.

Personality

Rio, despite having accumulated great knowledge about teenage human culture, still struggles a bit to fit in. She's outgoing, gentle-natured, and rather athletic. She believes a healthy mind goes hand-in-hand with a healthy body, and is careful of her own. Not because she's self conscious, either. It's because if she doesn't keep herself properly moisturized, she's as good as gone. She does have the tendency to get easily flustered, and trips over her words when she's nervous. Despite her love for sports and team-playing, she's also a major geek that spends her free time curled up watching anime or playing video games. She's not ashamed of this, either, but she doesn't bring up her passions unless someone does first. But if she hears something muttered across the room, you bet she'll cross over in a hot minute.
The persona she puts across is as a laid-back, down to earth sort of person. She's still young, and she tries to take the world in her stride. She hates conflict and violence. But those two rows of razor sharp teeth aren't just for show, either. She gets very defensive if someone questions her species, or in any way tries to bully her. Sometimes, she even fights dirty. But she’ll try to turn the other cheek far before it get to that point. If she does get into a fight, she tends to be very upset afterwards with guilt. She’s a sensitive soul, after all.
Deep down, all she wants is the teenage dream. She craves Sweet Sixteens, mall trips, gossip, crush talk, Teen Vogue magazine perfume samples and prom nights. She may live for awhile, but she wants to live every minute up.

MAIN: SEA NYMPH PHYSIOLOGY- Being a sea nymph, Rio enjoys many traits about her species. While she isn’t magical, her species is quite unusual.
-Underwater breathing: Even in chlorinated water, despite being a sea creature.
-Swift swimming: She’s not supernaturally fast, but can reach speeds up to 40 mph underwater.
-Teeth replacement: Like a shark, if she looses a tooth she can gain it quickly back.
-Tentacle replacement: She can cut off her tentacle hair and replace it at will. Some days it could be to her back, while other days it could be in a faux hawk. They also are prehensile and can pick up things using their suckers

From her hatch day, Rio knew she was to face many struggles to keep herself alive in a human-infested world. Ocean acidification, coral bleaching, and illegal fishing had almost wiped out her entire species, or had least cause them to flee. What has impacted her life to this day was an accident that involved illegal fishers to catch rare and exotic species, such as the rumored Sea Nymph that had been but a legend until that point. Oceana, Rio’s mother, could not bear to lose her husband and child to be caught, and pushed them away from a net she herself got snared in. This caused Rio and her father to be separated from Oceana, never to be seen again.
In the wake of grief, Dewey, Rio’s father, was desperate to find a solution to survival. Ironically, this came in form of another human, a marine biologist who had stumbled upon him by chance through a diving expedition.Through a heavy amount of coaxing, Dewey agreed to listen to the scientist explain that he had been a part of a program to take so called ‘monsters’ like him and his daughter under education through a small, secretly run school dedicated to teaching human behavior and eventually leading towards assimilation. He agreed, and both Dewey and his daughter surfaced to take part in this small experiment.
For the next decade or so, the two had worked closely with humans and other monsters to better understand themselves and the world around them. Rio was placed into the academy known as Project Mythos with others like her, and made friends rather quickly. She began to grow an affinity for human culture, and craved a chance to meet other humans outside of the handful of scientists she knew. Her luck came through in the form of a small exchange program, in which she would be sent to another school with creatures like her, except a bit more human. This was Starlight Academy. Packing her bags, her father and herself were transported over, granted a small house by the shore of the island to remind them of home. Though they’re still moving in, Rio is finding that she loves her new setting, and Dewey is just happy that his child is getting to live the life she has wanted.
