"W-Well... my plan was to pull an all-dayer and pack up my stuff in boxes and prepare some excuse if they came into my room. Like, my family would freak and ask me questions because I locked my room. But, uh, anyways, when I'm all ready and Eon has room for me, he's going to make a portal from my room to my new room, and we'll move my boxes that way. We're doing it in the morning too so no one knows. I don't... I don't know what my family would do if they knew. Probably cry, or get angry, or lock me inside until I promised I wouldn't leave.

"But, yeah... I'll just... figure something out. I'll still see Arjean at school and know places they visit. It's not like the Meis will kick me out if Arjean's with them. Honestly, I think they'd be happier if I moved out."

Then Remi flinched and slowly looked up to see Dr. Bryndísarson's reaction. "Ah, shit, sorry. I made things sound really dramatic. It's nowhere near that bad. I exaggerated too much. I... ramble too much."

Well, if Valli had any suspicions about Remi's family being well and truly abusive, they weren't suspicions any longer. Crying? Sure. Getting angry? Maybe. Locking someone inside until they capitulated to their demands? No, that one was right out. And the fact that Remi even thought it was a genuine option?

That was particularly telling.

Valli's face remained mostly impassive, if a little bit more focused than usual as she spoke. The Meis - she'd mentioned them a few times, and honestly seemed to like them better than her own family.

Valli had a few things to say. A few options. But he pushed aside the questions about Remi's family life to focus on Remi herself, pondering for a moment.

"Do you think that you do? Do you think you do all those things genuinely, or only when it comes to your family?"

Remi was noticeably jittery now. She could barely keep herself still, from shaking her leg to readjusting her entire position in the chair. She then shrugged and refused to give her therapist eye contact. "I exaggerate and talk too much all the time. It adds flare to what I say and—

"Actually... can we end our session? I feel kind of sick and should probably go and prepare the, uh, stuff we talked about."

Then her voice grew more timid. "I mean, I can keep going if you want, just..." She trailed off there, leaned further back into her chair, then fell quiet. All at once, she stopped fidgeting, her face lost any expression, and if she continued to talk, it would be monotone.

Maybe he'd pushed too far, or maybe it was always going to end that way. But she was agitated, and there wasn't going to be any progress from pushing her past that limit.

"Of course," Valli said. "We can call it here for the day." He stood up, going about his usual routine to wrap things up. "For now I'll keep to our usually scheduled session, but if you need to change it, just give the office a call and we can move it around, alright?"

"Of course, thank you. And, uh, sorry again. I think I'll feel better during our next session. And have better things to talk about." By then, perhaps Remi would have many other subjects to make Dr. Bryndísarson forget about the last topic they were on today. Maybe he would forget it completely by that time, despite how unlikely that was.

Oluremi did not take even a second to stand up and head to the exit. With an anxious smile towards her therapist, Remi rushed out of his office and down the halls.
