Reagan Riley
Why sell my soul when I could sell yours?

28 | June 3rd | Female | Lesbian | Half human, half selkie | Citizen | Detective

Appearance Description
:
Reagan stands fairly tall at 5' 9" and tends to wear tall heeled boots that make her even taller. Her skin is very pale and sprinkled with freckles. Along with the freckles, her red hair is a dead giveaway of her Irish heritage: typically cut short to frame her strong facial features. She has bright green eyes, typically accentuated with brown eyeliner and simple eye makeup.

She has what is often jokingly referred to as 'chronic bitch face', where her default facial expression always seems to be 'agitated' even when she isn't. First impressions tend to imply that she is unapproachable as a result.

Reagan has many scars on her body from before she became immortal, which were intentionally inflicted on areas generally covered by clothing by her father. She tends to keep herself covered, but low key fashionable. She keeps her makeup natural and barely noticeable, although her eyebrows are always filled in and kept in perfect shape.

Personality Description:
Reagan is a closed off individual, who shares very little of herself with others. She is polite when others are polite, but can quickly become harsh when someone does something to irritate her. Her relationships tend to be superficial, as she struggles to put any sort of concrete trust in others.

Reagan is ruthless--far more so than she lets on. At the age of 15, she had already made the decision to sacrifice her father's life in order to benefit herself and gain immortality. Even if her father was abusive, choosing to sacrifice a life for selfish purposes is not exactly a decision most are able to make--but it came so easily to Reagan. Reagan is manipulative--sometimes intentionally, and sometimes on a completely subconscious level. Either way, she has a way of getting what she wants out of others.

The job of a detective suits Reagan beyond her ability to gather what information she needs out of people. Much of the work is done solo, and she has a careful eye for detail. She keeps the right amount of distance from her work so that it does not affect her personal life.

There is a softer side to Reagan that is evident in the work she does. Her focus as a detective has always been on child abuse. Except...this is also selfish, to some degree. These are situations that she relates to more so than any other. She sees herself in those children, so they are the ones she wants to help the most. Not that she does not work on other cases as well, but she clearly exerts an extra level of effort into cases where she sees a certain amount of herself and her own situations in them.

Reagan is known for carrying multiple notepads with her, and is often seen writing intently. Her expression always seems to suggest deep concentration, like she just made a groundbreaking realization--but more often than not, she is writing down something as mundane as 'pick up milk'.

Reagan is actually a rather creative person and enjoys writing fiction--often story ideas are what she writes in her notepads besides mundane reminders and work notes. She is very closed off about her writing hobby, however, and had never attempted to be published or even show anyone her work.

Powers:
Immortality: Reagan sold her father's soul to a mermaid, who may have likely been a demon in disguise, in order to gain immortality for herself. Reagan's immortality entails both an infinite life span and regeneration abilities.

Water plays a key role in Reagan's immortality. Without access to a body of water, any injury inflicted to Reagan will take around 24 hours to heal--but the healing process will accelerate to nearly instant if she is able to submerge the wound. There must be enough water for her to submerge the wound--sprinkling some mist or pouring some water on her will not be enough to make a difference.

Should Reagan's heart or brain be destroyed, her body will turn into water and seek out the nearest water source to regenerate within. Should the water of her body be trapped and unable to seek out a larger water source to mix into...well, then she will have a problem. She needs to be able to mix the water of her body into a larger body of water in order to regenerate--or else she will simply be stuck as water.

Species Abilities:
Shapeshifter: Being half-selkie, Reagan has the ability to shapeshift between the form of a seal or a human as long as she has her seal skin.

Reagan is a Harbor Seal, measuring around 6 feet in length and weighing around 280 pounds. Her fur is a reddish tan color, somewhat reminiscent of the red hair of her human form.

As a seal, Reagan has the capacity to hold her breath for long spans of time--and this extends to her human form, as well. Her heart rate slows and her blood flow is diverted from her extremities to the brain, heart, and muscles--allowing her to hold her breath for up to 2 hours.

Prisoner: The weakness of selkies. If someone is to take their seal skin, they have no choice but to become that person's slave. Being only half-selkie, Reagan is not quite as strongly bound as regular selkies. She is capable of temporarily leaving the home of her captor for up to 5 days, but after that she will have an intense desire that forces her to return--no matter how bad the situation is.

Being immortal, Reagan could theoretically become another immortal's slave for all of eternity--so long as they can keep her seal skin away from her.

Biography:
Reagan was born Cathleen O'Meara in a small coastal town in Ireland to an abusive father who kept both her and her mother as slaves. Her early life was nothing short of a nightmare: sexual abuse, beatings, watching her mother die at a young age and being left alone with her monster of a father. Even worse was when Reagan would try to run away, somehow she was always drawn back home sooner or later. She couldn't seem to leave permanently, and she could not figure out why. What was wrong with her?

It wasn't until Reagan was 15 that she discovered her seal skin. Reagan had always felt drawn to a locked chest up in the attic, but at the same time was scared of what she might discover. But she finally decided to learn how to pick locks and see what was inside.

As soon as she held the red seal pelt in her hands, Reagan finally understood what she was and why she could not leave her father's home. At least, until that moment. She could finally escape--but that would not be the last encounter with her father.

Initially, Reagan decided that she would go to the ocean to be a seal and never live among humans ever again. It was too hard, too scary. What if her father found her again? What if other people hurt her?

Reagan encountered a mermaid who claimed she could grant immortality in exchange for a male human's soul. There was no denying the temptation this presented Reagan, nor was it very long before she decided to return home and trick her father into going to the sea.

In retrospect, Reagan realizes now that she had likely made a deal with a demon rather than a true mermaid. But it didn't matter. She was willing to sacrifice her father to benefit herself to anyone. Her father was gone, and she had gained immortality. She was no longer afraid of the world. She went to school, ultimately becoming a detective specializing in situations much like her own: abused children, sex trafficking, pedophile rings.

She worked in Ireland for several years, but she realized that she would not be able to stay. As an immortal, she would not age--and sooner or later it would be noticed. She remembered that mermaid maybe-demon had said to her after taking her father and leaving for good: 'Maybe we'll meet again on Manta Carlos sometime.'

Being a detective and partially inhuman herself, she was able to learn more of Manta Carlos. This was exactly where she needed to go. She changed her name to Reagan Riley then and left Ireland for good, soon becoming a detective with the MCPD.

Additional Information:
-Parent's names: Joseph and Edna O'Meara

-Reagan intentionally choose a unisex name to replace the name Cathleen, as she felt something that leaned more masculine would help her be taken more seriously.
