The wind ruffled through the trees as John strolled down the trail leading to the lake. Spring itself seemed to be around the corner as he strolled amongst the trees. The night itself seemed quite quiet and at peace, not that John was planning to keep it that way. John sighed as he stepped out of the trees into the general vicinity of the lake. The lake, to John, seemed to sparkle due to the moonlight. Everything seemed too dreadfully correct.
John had traveled to the lake in the middle of the night for several reasons. The first and foremost was that he was losing the emotional battle against his panic attacks. He had been trying for days to calm himself and ignore the creeping anxiety that had finally caught up to him. It hadn't helped that he was forced to use his ability a few times either. He didn't know what was worse, the constant fear from his ability or the fact that he had made a lot of enemies some of which, he worried, were looking for the slightest provocation in order to make sure his life was miserable. The second was that he didn't want anyone to see what he was about to do.
John had been put into an unfamiliar situation with other people who had already created a society. To be honest he didn't even know how to blend into a normal human society, let alone with different races with different customs. While the academy was indeed an enriching environment, it caused a lot of stress for John and possibly accelerated the rate at which his anxiety would get to him.
John came out because he needed catharsis. John's facade of being loud and rambunctious was starting to break down. The small and scared John was surfacing from the depths of his mind. He had been successful with fending the panic attacks off for a while, but now they were back and more concentrated than ever. So concentrated in fact that he was starting to see his past as if he was almost there.
John put his sat down on the ground near a tree bordering the lake, got into the fetal position, started grasping his head, and screamed into the night.
"LET ME OUT. I'M SORRY JUST LET ME OUT. FIND SOMEONE ELSE, I DON'T CARE JUST LET ME OUT. THESE WHITE WALLS ARE SUFFOCATING ME."
