It was early in the morning, just after dawn, and Eek couldn't sleep. He'd never been sick before, at least not for as far back as he could remember. But ever since he'd gone to that party, his head hurt and he had a cough. Even though the little boy couldn't remember any of the other fae either being sick either, he knew that sometimes animals got ill if they ate something bad. Perhaps he had gorged too much on fruit in the winter when he usually just ate bugs. The baby-fae didn't think he had eaten that much because he hadn't been at the party very long, but he had taken a really big bowl, and they had let him bring some food with him when he left.
It wasn't just the headache that was keeping him up either. He was also a bundle of energy, even though it was past his bedtime and he'd pretty much been running around all night. Eek had no idea at all why he was so hyper, and whenever he tried to sit and think about it something else caught his attention. The boy had no idea about any virus going around. He didn't watch tv or get internet, and he spent most of his time wandering around the park, so no one had told him about it yet. If he hadn't been at the party, he was so isolated he probably wouldn't have caught it all.
Right now Eek just wanted to get some rest, even though his restlessness was making it difficult. He kept climbing up a tree, getting distracted by the sound of bugs, or a twig falling, or rustling through the branches, or the sun shining in his eyes, and then climbing back down again. Finally, the boy gave up on trying to sleep in a tree like he usually did, and tried to fall asleep in a bush instead. The bush gave him some shelter but would shake periodically as he rolled around trying to get comfortable. Occasional coughs could be heard from the bush too and a rare coughing fit.
