Ebviony didn't like how her friends were being slandered. The angry whispers from her friends only furthered her own discomfort.

"Isn't that everyone?" Her voice was supposed to be angry, but instead, it sounded sound. "My friends aren't mean to me until they are." What was Selkiris point? To get rid of her friends before she was certain they were evil?

No, there was a bigger issue. If Selkiris thought this was a problem, he might tell her mom, and Celeste might do something dramatic. "Don't tell Mommy. I don't want her to try getting rid of them."

Selkiris calmly shook his head. “No Ebviony. I’m just saying you may look at them through rose-tinted glasses and see them as friendlier than they actually are.” It was definitely hard telling a child that their friends might not actually be their friends. Despite his looks he didn’t want to hurt peoples feelings. However this was certainly too important to ignore. “I promise not to tell your mother of this Ebviony. I just ask you be careful.”

Ebviony had trouble understanding exactly what Selkiris was saying. She could trust her friends, but not trust them too much? This sounded familiar.

"You sound like the other fae..." she whispered. Everything was a mind game. People were never good. They were only obviously bad or pretended to be good but were bad underneath.

Arguing with Selkiris wasn't Ebviony's intention, however. "I don't know how to be careful." Both because she saw no actual problem and because she wasn't sure how to combat the problem if it was there.

"I don't have fighting powers and I'm forever a child," she continued bitterly. "I don't know how to help them with anything. I can only let them see places and people they can't see themselves"

Selkiris sighed a little, Ebviony didn’t know how to be careful? This was going to be more difficult than he thought. “Well..to be careful..don’t always do what they ask or believe what they say. Question it. If they tell you to scare someone think about what would happen if you did. If you don’t like how it might play out then don’t do it.”

Selkiris fidget with his ring as usual. It was too common for him to play with it while thinking or if he was bored. “You don’t need to know how you could help them, because they do and if they have malicious intent I’m certain they’d use you help. If you don’t feel comfortable with some of these entities you may always speak to me Ebviony and I can help the best I can.” He didn’t want to force himself into the situation, rather wanting Ebviony to choose how they wanted to go about it.

"So only do what I want to do." That more or less cleared things up. Ebviony preferred to trust her friends, however. How could she be a good friend if she suspected everything her friends said? This was going to be difficult to manage.

"I won't do anything that'll get me in trouble. I don't want to go back to the Islet... Um... I'll talk to you if I, um..." Ebviony's voice trailed off. Her friends were becoming louder, telling her to leave, to not trust Selkiris, that this was all an attempt to confuse her.

After staring at the floor for several seconds with furrowed brows, Ebviony looked back up at Selkiris with a dizzied look. "I should go home... I think... My head hurts."

Selkiris listened carefully to Ebviony. He wasn’t quite sure what was going on right now but it was probably best for him to leave anyways, another librarian might fuss at him for being away for so long. “If you really want to then I cannot speak against it, hopefully we will meet again and speak of more pleasant things.” With that Selkiris vanished back to his desk, once again continuing his rather mundane job.
