Name: Michael Ashford
Age: 800 and some change, though he looks closer to his mid-twenties
Birthday: April 27th
Gender: Male
Species: Fae- Specifically, Nature Fae
Category: Citizen
Career: Bakery Owner
Appearance Description:
Michael stands at 5'7", and boy, his appearance is wild. He has long, rather green hair with brown eyes. His complexion is pale as well, with light green vine patterns along his arms and legs which start at the wrist and ankles, and end at the elbow and knee respectively. His wings are a reddish-pink, and rather sparkly, albeit translucent.
With glamour on, you won't find too much different- he has a tendency to remove the plant patterns, and his hair becomes more of a brown, while his eyes become grey. This usually is only during business hours.
He tends to dress well- trying to look sexy, more than anything. He'll wear most any color- with a slight preference to pink- but almost all of it has a feminine swing to it. He even wears feminine articles under his clothing. It's something he used to do to win over men back in the day, and now it's simply just stuck.
Personality Description: Michael is a hardworking individual. He's dedicated to his craft of baking, and stubborn with his causes. Once he's set his mind on succeeding in something, it is not a matter of if, but when- even if it kills him in the process. Unfortunately, such an attitude pushes most people away, as he often feels he doesn't have "time" to just lay back and have fun. He has work to do, after all. This, and his bossy, sassy attitude mixed in with a resting bitch face just don't make for someone having a lot of friends. Usually.
That said, he's not one to turn away someone in need. He almost feels it is his duty to assist, and would open his home to anyone who needed it. It becomes maternal, in a sense, as he'll make the person meals, make sure they're taken care of, and so on. He also gives any cakes he hasn't sold for that day to the orphanage or hospital. So he does have a caring side, it's just usually.. suppressed, just a tad.
When he's not in all business mode or being distant, you'll find he's quite a bit of a flirt. He has a thing for handsome men, and honestly, he's not afraid to show it. At all. In fact, he'd probably even express it during work. However, Michael has high standards- for himself and others- so he often will not pursue anything unless the person is deemed "worthy."
Species Abilities: Animal communication: As said earlier in the history, Michael can talk to Animals and interpret their emotions- this is an ability of Nature Fae. They do so by touching them, normally, but during the process you can hear them whispering things off an on. Because of this, they can bond with them and normally request their assistance in matters, be it fights, or telling them where something is. This only works with natural-born animals. Magical ones are difficult, and dark magic ones are impossible to properly read or communicate with.
Flight: Fae can fly, with their wings. These wings move quickly when they're flying, making them hard to hit, but they're weak and can be ripped easily. This hurts, but will not kill the fae. They can take up to a month to grow back. There is no special healing abilities to these wings, but they do store magic for some.
Plant Manipulation: Nature Fae have the ability to promote plant growth, pollinating massive fields of flowers, and allowing gardens to produce plentiful fruit. Often if a fae is happy, they may naturally cause growth of plants around them, such as flowers, herbs, and so on. This can also be used to revive dead plants, so long as their magic isn't already depleted.
This can also be used to make plants grow out of the ground to cut or constrict someone- sometimes both if the plant has thorns- or even a shield to block attacks. These plants can be massive, up to a total of 12 feet long and 3 feet in total girth. That said, the amount of these things that can be made at once vary on the magical ability of the fae and the size. In terms of one this big, only 2 or 3 could be made. The smaller, the more they can get away with.
They are roughly as thick as tree branches, making them difficult to cut, but not indestructible. They are weak to most magic, especially fire and frost. While a fae can magically bind them to make them stronger, this will result in any damage done to the plant reflecting on the fae themselves.
Powers: Healing: As fae can promote healing in plants, Michael has tailored his abilities to promote healing in animals and humans, with no pain on the person's part. If anything, it feels nice, almost ticklish. However, this is difficult as it is out of their usual nature, and tires Michael out quickly. If it's a mere cut, though, he typically gives a healing "kiss" to promote healing. He can just pour the healing magic out with his hands, but..this is how he flirts.
Healing, being strenuous to Michael, usually leaves him unable to use his glamour for a few days if it's a serious injury he's just healed. In a worst case scenario he requires several days of sleep.
Glamour: This has been mentioned a bit, so I'll finally describe it here- Michael, effectively, is able to manipulate his magic to create a "mask" of sorts. It alters his appearance, making him look human. Using it is a drain on him magically, and thus, limits all of his other abilities except flight as it is not dependent on this magic. He used to use it to fit in, but now he just uses it whenever he doesn't want his wings sparkling in people's faces, or just wants to look different for kicks. He cannot change his height, or body structure using glamour- only the pre-existing colors.
Biography:
Michael has been around for quite a long time, even if he doesn’t look it. He first came into existence in the early 1200’s, having grown out of the ground over the course of a few years. He had little knowledge of the world upon first hatching out of the earth- after all, he had no one else around at the time- but to him, the it was a beautiful place. His first sights were full of trees, flowers, and the scent of rain filled the air. While it was dangerous for a new fae with the predator-like animals running about, he managed, making a little home in the forest he’d spawned in, and exploring when he could.
He spent about 15 years, in that little forest, learning to hone most of his abilities- talking to animals was one especially that needed work, but in his time, he learned to with ease. However, as the boy hit adolescence, he grew rather bored of his surroundings. After all, the world was a vast place, according to the birds, and here he was only staying in a tiny bit? That wouldn’t fly well with him! And so, after making himself clothing with leaves, he planned to go visit these creatures he’d heard of in a neighboring town. “Humans,” he believed them to be called. However…
“Don’t go out there, young Fae. The humans do not understand you, and they will hurt you,” growled a panther to him, just before he went. Now, Michael blew this off, and went right into the town. Despite friendly attitude given, and even an offering of fruit, the village presumed him to be a witch, and even tried throwing stones at him. He went to many people anyway, and the reactions were all the same. Hurt, and rather dejected, he forced himself to escape before things got more dangerous. It was at this point he decided to watch people from afar, instead of greeting them personally- at least until he found a way to do so without being called a witch.
However, one group of humans had not been cruel to him- in fact, they’d been very, very kind- and that was the children. So while Michael did not approach the big humans, he often played with the little ones, visiting them, giving them sweets, and so on. They’d even sneak out to visit him in his woods, on occasion, and Michael would tell them all about the animals, and all his stories about the forest, and grown ups. It was fun for the young fae, and made him feel far less alone in the world.
Something Michael realized, though.. Were these children had an awful habit of growing up to be like the big humans. They’d stop believing in his existence, or treat him horribly when he tried to talk to them again, and this made him rather sad. Even the ones who did not do thi were still people, and unlike him, they were mortal. And as he learned, between the animals and people he knew, it was that mortals didn’t live very long. Growing sick of losing friends over and over, he began to stop making friends by the time he hit about 150. That wasn’t to say he was mean to them, by any means. He just put a noticeable distance between himself and them.
Around this time, Michael also expanded his horizons even more. He explored the world quite a bit, getting to experience different cultures of people from all over,as well as the climates. He held a special fondness for those less progressed, such as the North American territories, and would visit them often. But what was most amazing was his encounters with other fae. A lot of them were snobs, unfortunately- but a few were very kind to him, and introduced him to something important: glamour.
Now, Glamour… Glamour was something amazing, for the fairy. It allowed him to take a more human-like appearance, ditching his wings and oddly colored hair, and instead blending in with society. Michael, to say the least, was thrilled, and immediately took to conversing with anyone he could with this new form. It wasn’t about making friends, oh, no. It was just to talk, and observe people far more closely. Sure, they’d hurt him before, and died, but the young man was a curious fellow, absolutely dying to experience this part of life he’d once had to run from.
And so, for a good while Michael lived as a human. He opened a bakery, participated in events. He even had a few.. Romantic encounters along the way, full of scandalous behaviours- especially since not all of these partners had been single. He never stayed in one place too long, though- after all, he was still an immortal. If he let people see he did not age, there would be problems. Regardless of this, he had fun- and that was all that mattered.
However, Michael grew.. tired of such things, quickly. He loved his bakery, of course, but he hated that he needed to hide who he was to properly function in the outside world. This was, until a few years ago, a bird told him of a magical place- an island called Manta Carlos, where he could simply be himself- a fairy. And so, Michael packed his bags- and baking utensils- and moved here to set up shop.
Additional Information: Michael owns a bakery downtown, by the name of "Sugar Street Sweets." His house is connected to the back of it, so he essentially lives in his business.
Michael has.. quite a bit of money. He's stored a lot over the years, more than he has time to play with. So instead, he often pours it into luxuries.
