He was mature for his age, wasn't he? Realistically, any child that wasn't just nonstop balling their eyes out was doing an impressive job of holding it together. Even plenty of adults were simply crying and crying, unable to stop themselves.

The loss was great. So many people had died. Everyone in the clearing had what they were carrying and nothing else, and now they had to rebuild.

"If you need anything," Gallant said to the boy. "Please, don't hesitate to ask. It's important that we all come together on this."

He pushed himself to his feet, dusting off the knee of his armor where he'd been kneeling. "I'm sure I'll see you again soon."

Xavier remained where he sat. He'd always felt because of the rift he had between himself and the rest of his family, that it wouldn't phase him if they were all gone. But ever since he got separated, he'd been strangely nostalgic. Guess the end of the world really brings that kind of thing out.

He looked back up at Finch, and managed to pull a smile. "Yeah, you're right." Xavier nodded. His voice didn't sound it, but he wanted to be confident and optimistic. Better at least act that way. "I'm sure we'll all meet some cool new people." He stood back up, a cheerful look on his face. When in doubt, pull a smile. "Besides, I haven't found anyone yet! Better to be optimistic than pessimistic, right Finch?" Xavier flashed a grin. He was... quite appreciative that Finch had actually tried to comfort him.

"Yes yes yes," Finch cooed, reaching one very human hand out to give Xavier what he hoped was a reassuring pat on the shoulder. If he'd been standing, there would have been absolutely no way he could have managed it, but with Xavier sitting he at least had a chance.

"Yes, good to be optimistic. I hope you find your loved ones."

Finch pretty much had that set. He had relatively few friends, and he already knew the majority were somewhere on the island. He just had to find them.

He'd give a little bob of his head, and then he'd scoot off to go see if he could find them right then and there.
