Name: Makoto Black
Age: 901
Birthday: June 19
Gender: Genderfluid, goes by form appropriate pronouns and “they/them” in their truest form
Species: Yokai, Kitsune
Category: Citizen
Career: Talisman shop owner

Appearance Description: Overall both of Makoto’s human forms effectively wear the same outfit regardless of gender. A simple black Kimono with red accents. They also share red eyes, retractable claws, and jet black hair. Their fox form stands at 7 feet at the shoulder with white fur and red facial markings. They possess nine tails however they usually appear as one until Makoto fans them all out.

Female: Makoto stands at 5'7" and sports long hair that falls past her waist when it’s down. She also tends to sport a colder expression compared to her male version.

Male: He stands at 5'10" with short somewhat messy black hair. He usually wraps his arms in bandages, and sports a distinctly more smug expression on his face.

Personality Description: Capricious might be the best word to describe Makoto. Although that nature is something effectively inherent among kitsune as a species. Outside of their shop, Makoto is prone to interacting with people on whims. Often times choosing their roles in people’s lives based on entertainment value. Sometimes they help. Sometimes they watch, other times they’ll act antagonistic. While some can’t see why they take the roles they decide to take, they say it’s all in good fun and they’re helping them “get better”.
Makoto has a deep seated instinctual fear of dogs, and a general prejudiced attitude towards lycanthropes and beings who can shapeshift into dogs. Generally referring to them as mongrels, and other nasty names. Sometimes even fighting with them. There have been a few instances in the past where they’ve gotten along rather well with dogs, but the fact remains. Makoto hates 99.99% of all dogs.

Powers: Makoto is a master of illusions. They can range up to a one hundred yard radius and can be quite convincing. There is never a specific target, instead it simply effects everyone within the area. This ability is generally used to conceal specific areas. Since the primary weakness of his illusions is a person’s sense of smell, Makoto generally works with the environment instead of creating a new scene altogether. In a forest they may turn a clearing into a thick overgrown area. In a city they may mask the presence of a building or make shops that are open look like they’re closed. Even make streets appear more crowded. Focusing on inconsistencies within the illusions can help to dispel them. Dogs aggressively barking can also cause Makoto to panic, dispel the illusion, and out them as a kitsune. General knowledge of a given area can also help to dispel the illusion. Checking information on a phone and comparing it to what’s in front of your eyes is another easy way to see through the illusions
-In instances of combat, Makoto will create illusory clones of themselves to distract opponents. The clones may attack the target, however the damage is only as real as the target allows them to be. Makoto may also simply flee, dispelling the clones once they are out of sight from the scene of the fight.
-There have also been instances where the illusions have been used to make Makoto appear as someone outside their natural human forms. Again anyone with a sharp nose is able to smell them out, and dogs still hate them enough to make them break their own illusions.

Dispelling: The illusions dispel with inconsistencies and the more a person focuses on them. If they make a tree it wouldn't have a scent, you would think you were touching something but you aren't. Also factors such as wind blowing wouldn't effect the tree normally. A gust of wind would go through it. Birds may also perch oddly on it if it was built on a light post or sign. If it's in an urban setting it would look out of place. It's like playing a game of "spot the differences" with two pictures.
They could make it look like there's a large crowd of people on a sidewalk, but some of the faces may be recycled and their movements may not make sense they also wouldn't interact with other people normally, like npc's in a videogame. The less you believe the clearer the illusion becomes.
Another glaring inconsistency would be touching the illusion, a tree, especially one built around a telephone pole or light post would dispel at a touch because it would feel like the material of the actual object.

Fox Fire: Makoto does possess the ability to manipulate fire with great precision. They are immune to fire but not explosions. When fleeing they may set fire to the ground to deter pursuers. Generally speaking, they create nine fireballs which can track up to thirty feet. They have also created pillars of flame that shoot up from the ground, streams of fire from their mouths, as well as flame wheels, all of these have a range of fifteen feet, and are often used in coordination with their illusions. Fox fire can be dispelled with water easily enough, but it is unique in that it can burn ghosts and spirits.

Species Abilities: Makoto is naturally stronger than the average human, but not by much. They can only lift around eight hundred pounds easily. Their true strength lies in their speed and agility. In full Kitsune form Makoto can reach speeds of 70 mph, and still remains quite nimble in spite of their size. Naturally, they possess the keen senses of hearing and smelling that an average fox would. They also possess a strong resistance to psychic stimuli. Empaths, mind controlers, and telepaths may be able to scratch at their mind, but it’s very difficult to fully enter their mind.
Makoto possesses the ability to shift between a male and female human form. Makoto does possess the ability heal quickly, a small cut can take a few seconds while larger ones will close in a few minutes in proportion to how deep they are. More serious injuries such as broken bones can take up to a day. They are also immortal, assuming nothing comes to kill them, which would be a shame considering they just got their ninth tail a year ago.
Weaknesses: As it’s been mentioned several times, Makoto has a deep instinctual fear and dislike of dogs. They even dislike sentient beings who can shift into dogs. Dogs in turn have a strong dislike of Makoto, even friendly dogs turn hostile in their presence. This can cause Makoto to panic, reveal their tails, and dispel their own illusions before possibly turning tail and running.
-They can be prideful and honorable to the point that it causes them to engage in self destructive behavior, notably in cases involving revenge.
-Negative personal emotions over long stretches of time such as guilt or anxiety can cause them to become ill and die.
- They may not be the easiest to catch, but standard fatal shots to vital points on the body can also kill them.

Biography: Their early life was spent guarding a spiritual boundary point near a small village in feudal Japan. Makoto was effectively treated as a minor deity for their service. That is until they were driven out by a pack of dogs. They’d spend the next few centuries elaborately taking revenge on this group until they were a broken clan. There was no satisfaction for them when they finally achieved this goal, but there was no guilt over it either. They abandoned their guardian duties, they were a long forgotten spirit and there was little need in the more human focused world. Yokai seemed more prone to staying on the other end of their spiritual divide. Makoto, preferring the human side, opted to stay and wander. He served as an advisor to some humans and watched as their society became what it is now. They moved to Manta Carlos while it was still a fairly young settlement, and set up a charm shop. Which is still in business to this day.
