Konpeitō wore a sleeveless turtleneck with jean pants as he set himself up in one of the private rooms located upstairs of the M3C. There wasn't much to set up, really. He had been passing time by chatting with his friends in the Narrow Reality about recent games that came out. Now that it was nearing the time for Jason to show up, he was preparing his notes on resources TWIS supported or were connected with.

The door to the room didn't have anything on it, so he left it cracked open so when Jason came, he could see Konpeitō sitting at the table facing the door. All set, he moved his side bangs out of his face, straightened up his spine, and put on a focused expression. A passerby might view him as a man working towards a goal. Those in the know would see he was faking it so it wasn't obvious he was getting deep into an argument about Ace Attorney with a friend in Japan who really should have been asleep.

Having gone for a run, taken a quick shower, and thrown on some jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, Jason figured he was as ready as he'd ever be for the meeting with Konpeito. He knew if he put it off once, he'd keep putting it off, and he had to talk to people at some point.

As he entered the community centre, he made sure he had a confident grin plastered on his face before he headed upstairs. It seemed like first impressions were all he had left.

When he reached the room, Jason knocked politely before entering and sitting down across from the other man. "Hi, I'm Jason." His smile briefly turned genuine at that. "Are you Konpeito?" It sounded kinda silly to phrase it like that, but it was better than inadvertently lying in his first words.

Now came the hard part. Trying not to look like an idiot while lying through his teeth. "So are there a lot of people who do this, talk to you about this group?" Or he could just ask a bunch of questions.

Konpeitō resisted eyeing the door when he heard footsteps approaching. When his hearing first got stronger, it was difficult for him to not look towards anything coming close. Now he knew better. If someone entered to see Konpeitō staring at them expectantly, he could imagine their discomfort.

Luckily, that didn't happen. Once the visitor entered, Konpeitō looked up from his screen with a smile to listen to his introduction. "I am! Nice to meet you, Jason. Take a seat, if you wish. I don't mind if you leave the door open, close it, or lock it. It's whatever is most comfortable for you and your sense of privacy."

He cut his online conversation off and pulled up his notes. "I wouldn't say there are a lot a lot of people who join the group, but there's a nice size. Easy for a volunteer-based group to work with without having trouble justifying their existence. Most group meetings have about five or so people. It helps that we communicate about the best time for us to all meetup."

Jason kept his false smile plastered on after the introductions were over, closing the door and sitting down. He felt like he was in an interview again and wondered why he had agreed to doing this face to face instead of by email. Too late now, he just hoped he kept his anxiety from his face.

"And does the group point people to resources without them having to actually join? Or is that kinda thing also members only? What does becoming a member do?" Now he just felt a little silly. His interview had been somewhat easier when he was the one being asked the questions. Putting on a sarcastic tone he added, "I'm sure you don't get tired answering the same questions from all the new people."

"You'd be surprised! I used to hate getting asked the same thing over and over, but when I get asked something completely new that catches me off guard, that's way worse. I prefer being prepared. It means the day goes on smoothly. Oh, but don't hesitate to ask anything on your mind."

He paused briefly, then realized he hadn't answered Jason's main question. "Membership isn't required. We're here to help people, whether they need long-term or short-term help. Most come here for information about groups and clubs that better suit their needs. Members typically come for meetings, community service projects, or events we do. Small stuff to help newcomers feel productive and acclimate themselves to the island with like-minded people."
