Nia looked up at the women as she spoke. She wondered if that was really true. Did everyone come from someone? It made sense when she thought about it but the idea of her having parents or a family felt so strange and foreign to her, like it couldn't possibly be true.

She gave another shrug, unsure of what else to do, "Well, I came from New York City." The you girl offered up. She wasn't sure if this was really relevant but it was about all she had to say on the topic of origins.

Nia wasn't sure what else to say after that. Was this conversation going well? Was she doing a good job at being social? She felt so awkward not being able to answer Anastasia's question very well.

She glanced up at the front of the line; the boy was still talking but he was signing some papers so it looked like he would be finished soon, hopefully. She wasn't trying to get away from Anastasia, in fact she rather liked the woman, but she didn't like this room with all these people and not knowing where to go and where she was going to live. She knew nothing about her past so she liked to keep her future in order.

New York City. Anastasia was aware, in a very general sense, that New York City was a place in America, but she couldn't have pointed it out on a map. She knew it was important, but didn't know all that much about it. Most American movies seemed to be set there (or at least a lot), but she didn't think it was actually the capital - just a very important, big city.

In the grand scheme of things, it didn't mean every much to her beyond that it meant Nia was American.

"Oh. I meant..." She paused, frowning as she tried to figure out how to phrase it. "I meant family. Or who raised you." There was no doubt a term for it, but Anastasia couldn't remember the English term.

She wouldn't get to hear the answer. The boy behind her started moving away, and Anastasia glanced quickly over her shoulder. Her turn. Time to go.

"Well, it was good to talk to you." That sounded nice enough as a closing, didn't it? She gave Nia a smile, even if it seemed a bit forced (more for emphasis - she really had enjoyed her brief talk), and then turned back to the desk to do her own business.

Most orphans would probably get all upset or worked up when people started asking questions about family, however Nia was no typical orphan. With no memory of where she came from, there really wasn't much to get upset about.

She gave a small shrug and was about to respond that she didn't know, that she couldn't remember, when the boy who had been taking forever finally finished up. Nia was glad; though she did find that talking to Anastasia was nice, she was ready to get out of this office and into wherever she was going to be living now. Her bag on her back wasn't that heavy but she was very weak and it was starting to hurt her shoulders.

"Oh.. Uh yeah." It was all she could think to say in response to the woman. She wasn't very good at the formalities of talking to people with saying things like "It was great talking to you too!" or something like that.

As the woman turned her back Nia felt her nervousness returning. She no longer had the conversation to focus on and her attention turned back to her surroundings. Even though nothing stressful was happening, the small girl couldn't help but feel panicked. Hopefully Anastasia wouldn't take nearly as long as the boy had and she could get out of this place soon.

Not to mention, she hadn't had a vision for a couple days and really didn't want the next one to happen in a room so full of people; she didn't want a repeat of what happened with the nuns.

Anastasia was nothing if not efficient. She had at least a general sense of what she was supposed to be doing at the counter, and was quick to get through it. Sign this, dot that. Accept a packet of paperwork. It was all over and done with in a matter of minutes, and then it was off to... well, do what she wanted. She'd get a tour later that day, and she'd meet her roommate that afternoon, but for the moment she was done. There would be no classes for the first day or two, in order to let her get used to the island. It would all be done with soon.

She turned away from the counter, a folder of paperwork tucked under her arm, and paused when she saw Nia, looking even more nervous than she'd been when Anastasia had first approached her.

"It is your turn now. I am sure you will do just fine." She resisted the urge to scoot the girl up to the counter, opting instead to step out of the way and head for the door, leaving Nia to do her business in peace.

Anastasia was much faster than the boy in front of them and in no time she was finished and heading out. When she paused to give Nia a bit of encouragement before walking out the door, the small girl gave a little nod in response before turning her attention back to the woman at the desk.

Nia walked up, nervous and shaking. Thankfully, the woman was kind and gentle and when she could tell Nia was getting flustered by the papers and things she had to complete, she slowed down so that the girl could relax more. It took longer than Anastasia, even though she had less paper work being a minor still, but still not nearly as long as the boy had. Nia just kept focused on getting her room assignment and getting out of there.

When everything was finished, Nia had an envelope of papers she was suppose to read through and a key for her room. She was instructed on how to reach her dorm building, told that a dorm parent would be meeting with her in the morning, and then sent on her way.

When Nia exited the building, she half hoped to see Anastasia standing outside but she wasn't surprised when she didn't see the woman. She hoped that she could run into the woman again. She was nice and Nia hadn't been around very many nice people as of yet. Either way, she headed off to her dorm, taking deep breaths, repeating the directions again and again in her head, and praying she wouldn't get lost.
