Nia looked up at the women as she spoke. She wondered if that was really true. Did everyone come from someone? It made sense when she thought about it but the idea of her having parents or a family felt so strange and foreign to her, like it couldn't possibly be true.
She gave another shrug, unsure of what else to do, "Well, I came from New York City." The you girl offered up. She wasn't sure if this was really relevant but it was about all she had to say on the topic of origins.
Nia wasn't sure what else to say after that. Was this conversation going well? Was she doing a good job at being social? She felt so awkward not being able to answer Anastasia's question very well.
She glanced up at the front of the line; the boy was still talking but he was signing some papers so it looked like he would be finished soon, hopefully. She wasn't trying to get away from Anastasia, in fact she rather liked the woman, but she didn't like this room with all these people and not knowing where to go and where she was going to live. She knew nothing about her past so she liked to keep her future in order.
