JAMES HAVOC

Havoc - Twenty-Five - May 24th - Male - Human - Extraction Scout
APPEARANCE
Havoc Image Reference, art by Skele-Tea
Havoc is a military man, and no matter what he's wearing it's obvious. His posture is stiff, and his walk is nearly a march. He never looks relaxed, perpetually on high alert, and his usual expression is completely blank. He rarely shows any emotion, and his reactions to things are extremely subdued. His gaze is always very focused, generally coming across as too intense.
Havoc is half-Chinese, and has very east-asian features despite his hair (short and sandy blond) and eyes (dark blue). He stands at 5'10", and he's very fit and muscular, although not very broad. He has a lot of small scars from training, but does have one large scar on his left cheek, close to his ear. It's a single scar with two perpendicular lines, forming a diagonal double dagger (‡).
Havoc wears very relaxed and casual clothes when not on-duty. Sweatpants (often with the US army logo on the leg) and t-shirts are hist most common apparel. He almost always wears his US army dog tags under his shirt.

PERSONALITY
Havoc is the picture of a military man. He's composed, disciplined, and almost impossible to rile up. He never shows any sign of being angry or upset, even when the situation is bad. He's focused and dedicated, throwing himself into whatever happens to be his current focus. He has a strong focus on law and order, and accepts 'because it's the rules' as a perfectly valid reason.
The issue is that that's all there is to Havoc. He doesn't have any hidden depths, no deeply buried emotions. What you see is what you get. He has extremely shallow emotions, and is incapable of any sort of true empathy. He understands what to do in a social scenario by puzzling it through mentally, but he doesn't actually care about it. He has friends because they're useful and because it's important, not because he really cares.
Havoc can, to a limited extent, pass as someone with a full set of emotions. He knows how to smile and mime what he expects would be the proper responses, but he can't maintain it in the long term. Up close, the charade would only last a few minutes, while he can generally continue it longer if he keeps whoever he's dealing with at a distance.
But unless there's a reason, Havoc doesn't try. He doesn't see the effort as worth it, preferring to make social connections with people who won't really care about what he's lacking.

ACTIVE ABILITIES
Pyrokinesis: Havoc possesses the ability to control fire, and is capable of producing and controlling flames at will.
The fireballs he creates are as hot as a blowtorch, and can be as large as a basketball. He can create up to five and control them independently with ease. For already existing fires, he can control much larger amounts of fire since he doesn't have to focus on sustaining the flame. His effective range is line of sight, but he can create fireballs behind obstructions such as walls as long as he can visualize it well enough.
His power is more difficult to control in heat. Havoc is fire resistant, but not fireproof.
Aerokinesis: Havoc also possesses the ability to control wind, and is capable of producing and controlling the air around him.
The pockets of air he creates have the same makeup as normal air, and can be as large as a basketball. He can create up to five, continually refreshing them as needed. He can also create gusts up to 60mph, and can effectively levitate light (up to 5lb) objects using small gusts of wind. His effective range is line of sight, but he can create gusts and air pockets behind obstructions such as walls as long as he can visualize it well enough.
Knife of True Death: Havoc possesses a magical knife similar in design to a KA-BAR. The blade is seven inches long with a clip point, and the knife has a five inch handle. Against most people, the blade works identically to a normal knife, aside from being a bit more durable. If it breaks, he would have to retrieve the pieces and repair it.
However, the wounds inflicted by the knife heal only at a normal human rate. Supernatural or magical healing has no effect on them. In the event an immortal were killed by the knife, they would be granted a true death, their souls passing on into what lies beyond normal afterlives.

BIOGRAPHY
No content warnings
- Havoc was born an only child on a farm in California. His mother was from Hong Kong, and his father was an American mutt with British ancestry.
- Havoc was well behaved, but fairly quiet and unemotional. His parents didn't consider the implications until Havoc entered high school, but his father was against seeking help for his son.
- Havoc entered the military at the age of seventeen, his unique personality allowing him to excel. He enlisted with a long commitment, being shipped off to RASP.
- While he initially struggled with the physical requirements, he pushed past it, and graduated very well liked due to his lack of complaint and willingness to accommodate almost anything.
- Havoc deployed with the 75th Army rangers just before his eighteenth birthday, serving two years before being nominated for Ranger School.
- Ranger school was hell, with Havoc dropping almost thirty pounds over the sixty-one days of training. He managed to graduate at the very top of his class, no doubt in small part due to his resilience to the mental strain of training.
- Havoc was bumped up to Sergeant on his return to the 75th and deployed again.
- During what should have been a routine mission, Havoc found himself ambushed from the side by enemy combatants. Havoc was nearly killed, and his psychokinesis manifested and caused the man on top of Havoc with a knife to spontaneously combust.
- Havoc suffered only minor burns, but was pulled with active duty to recover. A Manta Carlos scout placed within the military caught wind, and at the age of twenty-three Havoc was shipped to Manta Carlos for training.
James was an only child to two loving (and exceptionally eager) parents. While his parents met in Hong Kong, he was raised in California on his father's family farm. His mother insisted on giving him a proper Chinese name and teaching him to speak Cantonese, but for the most part James remained distant from his Chinese heritage. He saw a lot of his father's family--American through and through, even if they claimed British ancestry--and was generally considered a well behaved, if quiet and unemotional child.
It wasn't until James was in highschool that anyone began to suspect anything was amiss, but considering that he wasn't breaking any rules, his father was against the idea of James seeing a professional. There wasn't a problem as far as he was concerned, and he dismissed James's mother's concerns outright.
The military seemed an obvious solution, a place where someone who has the emotional depth of a puddle could get by. He was dedicated enough and the physical challenge didn't alarm him, so he signed up the moment he hit 17.
It turned out to be an excellent choice. Havoc excelled in every way, and his distinct lack of emotions was no great hindrance. It pushed him from quiet and withdrawn to efficient and happy with himself. He enjoyed the challenge of it, enjoyed the feeling of pushing himself past the limit, and enjoyed the feeling of being part of a larger community.
He picked up an option 40 contract the moment it was available after scoring highly on his ASVAB, shipping out to RASP at the first opportunity.
RASP was hell, and his initial results were less than positive. Even so, Havoc stuck around, dragging himself up as quickly as possible. He graduated on time, well liked and largely notable simply for the fact that he showed no signs of being bothered by the absolutely grueling conditions.
He deployed with the 75th Army rangers shortly before his eighteenth birthday. He hadn't even properly deployed before he had his eye on ranger school, but it would be two long, grueling years before he got his chance. While life as a new recruit was anything but easy, Havoc's distinct lack of reaction to any amount of goading or hazing made him a low priority target, and he got off comparatively easy. After eighteen months in service, Havoc was bumped to E-4 and nominated for Ranger School.
Upon arrival, Havoc was forced to adjust his assessment. RASP was easy--Ranger School was the real hell. Twenty hour days with less than four hours of sleep and just over two thousand calories meant that Havoc was near the end of his rope from the word go, dropping almost thirty pounds over the sixty-one days of Ranger School.
Even so, he did graduate with the Darby award at the very top of his class. Despite the physical strain, his resilience to mental strain helped him pick up the slack, keeping him at the front of the pack for the duration of the training.
He returned to the 75th and was almost immediately bumped to sergeant, his hard work paying off with a unit of his own.
Havoc wouldn't get a chance to bump his rank up again. During what should have been a routine (at least for the rangers) mission, Havoc found his unit under heavy fire. Things went from bad to worse when several men with knives ambushed them from the other side. Havoc went down, taking several cuts to his face and arms.
The heat of the desert, combined with the stress of having someone literally on top of him trying to take his head off with a knife caused Havoc's powers to manifest in a big way. There was no single fireball defending him--instead the man in front of him abruptly burst into flames, his clothes catching on fire followed shortly after by the rest of him.
Havoc suffered minor burns and was pulled from active duty to recover. The fire was declared spontaneous combustion, but the powers that be had a pretty good idea of what it really meant. At the age of twenty-three, Havoc was put on temporary leave and packed off to Manta Carlos for training.

RESOURCES
Havoc has about two years worth of savings in the bank from his time in the US military. His position as a scout is now paying into that, but Havoc is also living in a small, sparse apartment which limits that greatly. He has a spending money, but rarely actually uses it.
EXTRA INFO
His Chinese name is 勇 - 'Yung' in Cantonese. The character itself means 'Brave', but it was picked largely without thought to the meaning.
Havoc's primary language is English, although he's also fluent in Cantonese. Because he grew up speaking it, he speaks Cantonese without a noticeable accent. He also speaks serviceable Arabic, Kurdish, and Pashto.
Havoc writes monthly letters home to his parents, a habit he's kept up even after leaving the military.
While Havoc is most familiar with US Army standard issue equipment, he doesn't have access to most of his army gear. His standard carry is a Glock 19, which he carries in a shoulder holster. If he can have it on him, you can bet he has it on him. He has his concealed carry license in his wallet.
