The creature was beginning to recognize that he was making everyone he met uncomfortable. Something about him was deeply unsettling, and he thought that he had a theory as to what it was: he didn't have a three-dimensional body.

Whenever he presented himself in the three-dimensional world, he resembled a writhing mass of slimy, blue tentacles. Everyone he was trying to talk to had a humanoid body. In order to communicate with the humanoid creatures without making them uncomfortable, he believed, he would need to have a three-dimensional body. Or, at least, something that he could manipulate like one, which could act as his body.

He skirted the outer edges of the three-dimensional world, gazing into it from the outside, looking for something suitable. After much searching, he found it - an abandoned mannequin. It was perfect; it had joints just like a human's for its arms and legs and neck. He could probably wrap his tendrils around it and make it move around like a human.

Yes. With his new mannequin body, three-dimensional humanoids would finally like him.

Focused on his prize, he extended his tendrils into the three-dimensional world. Thick blue tentacles extended from the ceiling of the circus's prop trailer, gingerly lifting a 6 ft tall mannequin from its spot on the floor. They positioned it so it was standing upright, moving it like a marionette into a standing position.

Something simple first. He tried to remember what walking was supposed to look like, then tried to make his mannequin move like that. It didn't quite work. Human legs normally didn't bend like that.

He was so engrossed in his human impersonation practice that he didn't even notice a small human approaching.
