Noli Zaphir

So much had happened during Noli’s time on Earth. A lot of it was good, but a lot also…worried her. The corn maze, the violence that erupted after, and then this centipede demon harassing Pandora…Noli wasn’t really involved in any of this, but Malara was. And Malara was always taking on the burden of protecting others.

Maybe it would just be easier for Malara if she had one less weak, pathetic person to worry about: like Noli. Malara had enough to worry about—especially since Pandora had those little spider babies now. They were priority. Pandora and those babies were more important than Noli, so maybe it was better if Noli was just…out of the picture.

So she was starting to consider how she could make money more quickly again. Then she could leave Earth and continue her pilgrimage as a Prophet. Malara was always making jokes about Noli becoming her Prophet instead, but…she was Vedite’s Prophet first, and she had a duty to fulfill.

That led her to The Strip on that cold winter day, bundled up in a thick coat because she wasn’t used to how cold it got on Manta Carlos. She didn’t know much about stripping, but…well, you get half naked, dance around, and then money, right? Maybe she could handle that…

…Or maybe not. Every time she peered into a place, she got too shy to actually go inside. When she managed to get a sneak peek at the types of girls that worked in those places, they were always so skinny and perfect…she felt so gross with her chubby body in comparison. She wasn’t what people wanted to see, she felt like. She had been told about how girls could make money on the internet with webcams, but…again, would people actually watch her, or would she just be wasting her time?

Feeling defeated, Noli sat down on a nearby bench. She curled herself up in a ball--which she really looked like one considering the thick winter coat she was wearing--and silently thought to herself. What else could she do?

Victor had no idea why he was here. He was walking through the city when he somehow made a wrong turn. Now he was in what he could only describe as the shady part of town.

Despite his initial fear, He was excited by the idea of exploring the black market, so he decided to stay a bit and look around. It was one of the oldest parts of the city, and it looked it, with the cobblestone and brick buildings giving the place a strange atmosphere.

Nearby, he noticed a girl scrunched up on a bench, obviously feeling sad, though he couldn't see her face. Victor wasn't the best in comforting others, but he felt obligated to help if he could. He sat down next to her, but not too close, as he might go within boundaries.

"Um, excuse me, miss, but are you okay?" He said slowly.

“W-what…?”

Noli looked up, blinking at Victor through tear-stained eyes before quickly wiping them against her sleeve.

“U-um…"

She was embarrassed someone actually noticed her. But at least he seemed...well...he seemed a bit out of place on The Strip, and that was definitely a good thing. If someone who fit right in on The Strip had approached her, it might have been a different story...

God, what was she even doing there?

"I've, ah...had a rough few days...ahaha..." Noli said shyly as she glanced back at Victor.

Well, at least she was okay somewhat. Helping people emotionally was the worst thing he could really do.

So, ahem, the girl was on the bench crying in a Dark place. It was best that he had come along first, before one of the islands other visitors, like that caterpillar Woman he had heard about.

The best thing he could do would be to listen. "What happened that made you cry?"
