Daya did not want to have to pack up her luxury apartment to move into a dorm room with someone she has never even met before. She couldn’t believe that her dad thought that this could be a good idea in any way. She was perfectly happy exactly where she was, living on her own. She had a bunch of space, she didn’t have to worry about anyone bugging her or moving herself. But she knew she had to make the best out of an absolutely terrible situation. She just hoped that the roommate she was assigned to had some sort of class and would be more than understanding of the misery she had been put through.

Daya left her old apartment for the first time and made her way to the student dorms. Not once has she ever been in this part of campus and it was safe to say that she got lost. Being herself she refused to ask for help or even talk to anyone that noticed how confused she must have been and offered it without her asking. She just felt lucky that she didn’t have to carry all her stuff with her and that it was already brought to the dorm that morning.

After what felt like hours to her, she finally figured out where she had to go and made her way to her new home, if she could even call it that. She ran her fingers through her thick brown hair, and with a smile so plastic it would make any Kardashian jealous she unlocked the door to her new dorm and pushed the door open. At first she couldn’t see her new roommate so she called out “Hello?” and walked in leaving the door wide open.

Evander should have expected the chaos of that morning, having received notice about a week ago of being assigned a room mate. Even so, it didn’t prepare the gryphon for the amount of things the movers brought into the dorm. After politely directing them where to put it all for the time being, he decided to excuse himself and take a quick morning flight out the window while the workers did their thing. It didn’t take very long, evidently, because he came back an hour or so later and there was a stack of boxes in the corner off the unused part of the room.

It was going to be strange, having to share a dorm with someone else. Evander had gotten used to being by himself, with just his record collection and gramophone in the corner, a simple wood framed bed lined with straw and a low-lying table with his laptop sitting on it… Needless to say, there was a twinge of excitement and panic as he heard the tumbler on the door lock turn; what would his new room mate be like? What would they look like? Were they human, a dragon, or something else? Hopefully they wouldn’t mind the scent of lavender and basil coming from his window garden…

When he looked at who came through the door, though, there was a bit of a look of puzzlement on his feathered face, with perhaps a twinge of disappointment in his large, ruby eyes as it sunk in as to what he was in for. There stood a young Latina, perhaps a bit taller than average height… Her plastic smile looked as fake as any, and there was something that just seemed off-putting about her entire demeanor. One o’ them people… Great… he thought, even as he perked his ears in a friendly posture.

“Howdy, there!” the diminutive, feathered creature said, moving a bit more into her field of view as he did, “I’mma take a guess an’ say you’re my new room mate, no?”
