Name: Hans Arne Marten Østergård-Schäfer
Age: 22
Birthday: January 8th
Gender: Male
Species: Anthro red fox
Birthplace: Northern Germany
Category: Student
Class: College
Grade: Junior
College Major: Mechanical Engineering

Appearance Description:
Hans is not a tall fellow at 5’3", and could probably use a few inches, but he’s not complaining; his family is on the shorter side anyhow. Aside from that, Hans is pretty average for an anthropomorphic fox; russet fur that fades to black towards his forearms and shins, and a patch of white fur at the end of his tail, complete with orange eyes; were one to see under all his fur, they would see that Hans is a toned and fit individual. He’d be a rather handsome fellow if he could keep himself clean; his fur constantly is matted with oil and grease, especially around his face, and there always seems to be a faint smell something burning around him, no doubt a result of some sparks from the welder burning through his shirt.

With Hans, you won’t find anything fancy or done up; it’s all practical and comfortable. Hans can typically be seen wearing some boot-cut jeans or cargo pants and some work boots, a t-shirt of some color (usually grey, green or beige) and a paisley-patterned bandanna around his neck. Other common things to see on his person are his burned and worn green button up shirt, an old pocket watch from his grandfather in his front pocket, and a pair of cutting torch goggles perched on his forehead.

Personality Description:
Hans is a born tinkerer; he loves exploring new things through trial and error, creating and firsthand experience. Often, he finds joy in getting his paws dirty, taking things apart and putting them back together. Hans is friendly to most everyone he meets but is a rather private individual, and has a calm, steady demeanor that masks a spontaneous, bubbling creativity underneath. His thought process stems from realistic expectations and has a solid foundation in the principle of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, and as such is a strong believer in fairness. That said, Hans has a hard time reading the emotions of others, as he often takes his own permissive attitude for granted and assumes his peers think alike, just as others might find him hard to read. He is also a stubborn creature, and can become quite blunt in his annoyance with those who try to change his mind, even if they might have a point.

Species Abilities:
Fox Physiology
It goes without saying that as an anthropomorphic fox, Hans shares quite a similarities with the theriomorphic animal of the same variety, especially where senses are concerned. The biggest similarities are:
  • Enhanced senses – Particularly the senses of hearing and smell, where they are about the same as a dog or wolf. In addition, Hans has decent night vision, and can see well at night and in dark places where there is a dim source of ambient light but would need a source of light like anyone else if he were to enter pitch black darkness.
  • Claws – Hans, like a theriomorphic fox, has claws on his paw like hands and feet, and, also like a theriomorphic fox, his claws are retractable and retract into his fingertips and toes when not in use.
  • Fur – while this should be fairly obvious just by looking at him, Hans is covered in fur from head to tail. It provides good insulation in the summer and keeps him warm during the winter, which means he basically gets to wear jeans and a tee shirt all year round. The only downside is that he has to deal with shedding fur getting everywhere for a couple months during start of the summer season.

Powers:

Accelerated Learning -
Hans was born with an accelerated rate of learning; he can learn and retain knowledge at a much faster rate than most. For an estimate, Hans could read, write and speak at the Sekundarstufe I level (about the seventh grade) at the age of five, and by the age of twelve, he could comprehend university textbooks with ease. If there is a downside to this, it’s that, because of the associated increase in brain activity, Hans complains of headaches and dizziness often, especially if he’s been reading more advanced technical material.

Hand tool handiness -
While not necessarily a supernatural ability in itself, Hans has an extraordinary talent for using hand tools, whether it be for metal or woodworking. Be it a hand drill, a file or rasp, or a dovetail saw, chances are, if it’s an unpowered hand tool, Hans is almost a master with it. That said, for reasons Hans himself isn’t sure of, he finds himself struggling to use most handheld power tools, often getting imprecise and/or unworkable results as compared to what he gets with unpowered tools.

Biography:
  • Born in Northern Germany to a German-speaking father and a Danish-speaking mother
  • Started school at age 5, quickly got bored after learning everything in a month. Parents started looking for a new school.
  • Took an interest in tools and building things at age 10; started helping his father in the shop at age 12.
  • Received a letter from the Academy at the age of 14 during summer break; his parents had him transferred at the beginning of the following school year in the hopes he wouldn’t be bored like he was at his other schools.
  • Graduated from high school at the Academy at the age of 17, started college coursework almost immediately with mechanical engineering as his major. Also started renting a small building for a workshop a year later to pursue his personal projects, funded by his parents.

Additional Information:
  • While his parents didn’t move to Manta Carlos with him, Hans keeps in contact with them often (usually via email and chat programs), and a bin full of letters and postcards can be found next to his desk in his dorm room.
  • Despite being a habitual internet browser when not in class or down at his workshop, Hans is only vaguely aware of the furry fandom.
