Guarin Zaphir
"At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet."
― Plato
45 | March 7th | Male | Praxian | Citizen | Ship Mechanic on the Space Station
APPEARANCE
Standing at 5’ 7”, Guarian is a handsome, muscular Praxian with wide shoulders and a narrow torso. He has a strong jawline, but gentle purple eyes and soft, fluffy blond hair.
While Guarin mostly looks Praxian, his pointed ears give away the fact that he likely has some Turac somewhere along his bloodline and thus is not a ‘pure’ Praxian. He wears green stone earrings similar to jade because green was his husband’s favorite color.
As a transgender male, Guarin has gone through hormone replacement therapy and surgery to remove his breasts.

PERSONALITY
Guarin is a gentle, quiet man with a big heart. He suffers from anxiety and is easily overwhelmed, though he has gotten better at calming himself down as he has gotten older. He is a mechanic by trade, but has also always had an interest in engineering and inventing new tools to help further society. He did have some small successes—mostly smaller parts to larger inventions by others—but never created anything that made a large profit, and focused on his mechanic work to help support his family.
Having lost his husband recently, Guarin has become withdrawn to all except his daughters. He was incredibly lonely on Mes when he had sent Lae off to find Noli, but felt it was more important for them to be together than it was for him to cling to Lae for company.
Between being a transgender male and not a pure Praxian, Guarin has always been treated like an outsider. He always sympathized with Noli as a result, but also is proud of Laemiri and finds relief in the fact that she was able to get along well in Praxian society. He always tried to give the two twins the same amount of attention, but Noli tended to always need a little extra.
Guarin was always the more strict of the two fathers, while Taavil was more carefree and inclined to spoil the twins.

HISTORY
Guarin was born ‘Lothelia’ along with a twin sister, Faia, who tragically died shortly after birth due to a heart condition. Guarin was often picked on in school because he was anxious and stuttered a lot. While living his life as a girl, Guarin always felt strange and out of place. He felt ‘wrong’ compared to other girls, and preferred to keep the company of boys.
Otherwise, his life was mostly uneventful during his school years—until his last year of secondary school, when he met Taavil. Taavil has transferred to Guarin’s school after his family had moved into the sector, and like Guarin Taavil was treated like an outsider due to his condition. He has a chronic illness related to muscular dystrophy and was unable to walk—using a wheelchair to move around. The two became inseparable in school, falling more and more in love as the school year passed.
At that point in Guarin’s life, he had started considering transitioning from female to male. It was not an easy choice to make, as females were considered the more ‘privileged’ of the two genders among Praxian. In the eyes of many Praxian, Guarin’s choice was an unusual downgrade, but Taavil felt differently. Feeling Guarin should be true to himself and would ultimately be happier, he encouraged Guarin to transition. Guarin’s parents did not take well to their only daughter choosing to transition into being a male, and he was disowned.
Guarin and Taavil settled in a small town in the Etk sector, a desert region of Mes. Taavil supported Guarin every step of the way through his transition, and when it was all said and done—Taavil asked Guarin to start a family with him. They decided to adopt two twin baby girls who has been given up for adoption by their mother—naming them Noli and Laemiri. Laemiri grew up to function well in Praxian society, while Noli had a more difficult time and was always ‘the baby’ of the family. Part of Guarin always wondered if Noli would grow up to be transgender like himself, since her sensitivity and delicate nature were considered more ‘male’ traits for Praxians—though this did not end up being the case.
On her 18th birthday, Noli started showing a very sudden and strong interest in Vedite, the ‘Demon of Tyranny’. It seemed odd for the otherwise gentle girl to suddenly be so fascinated with a demon general of all things, but her interest only continued to escalate.
Noli’s obsession hit a breaking point, when one night she stole enough money from her family to fly off of Mes in search of Vedite—convinced Vedite was speaking to her in her dreams and that she was Vedite’s prophet.
With so much of their money gone, the family could not afford to go looking for Noli. They could only pray that she would come to her senses and contact them again. With no other choice, Lae had to stop going to school and give up her dream of being in the military, instead working as Guarin’s apprentice as a mechanic.
Eventually, Noli did contact them. She would not return to Mes, but she promised to pay her family back the amount she had taken from them while going to school and working on Earth.
But Taavil would not live to see Noli in person ever again. He succumbed to his chronic illness and passed away. His last request to Guarin was that he find happiness, and bring the family together once more. He couldn’t possibly afford to send both himself and Laemiri to Earth, so he asked Laemiri to go and find Noli—to ensure she was safe and well where she was. Laemiri agreed, but held a deep, bitter resentment toward her sister and their reunion did not go smoothly.
When Noli sent him a message telling him about Earth and the opportunity to bring him there without paying a huge sum for travel, Guarin agreed. He decided going to Earth would be a fresh start for himself, and he could bring the family back together once more—just as his dying husband had wished.
