Very little people knew about this, but Felix's feelings were often very chaotic. There weren't ups and downs, it was more like constant down with a backdrop of bitterness he never really grew out of. He used to know how to control his feelings before, but lately he'd been trying just a little harder to open up to other people — a result, he supposed, of his new marriage. It wasn't going well. It just reminded him that even without forcing himself to isolation, he was still odd and unlikable, thus an unpleasant candidate for friendship. When he pushed people away, there was a degree of control there. It hurt but it didn't hurt as much. When he was forcibly outcast... that was an entirely different thing.

Felix was resolute in giving that a break for a while, lay low, let people forget they didn't like him, but then when he came in for yoga that morning, he didn't expect Storm. He knew Storm taught yoga, but he thought that was exclusively for school. He supposed, if he came to the gym regularly, he would've gotten the memo, but as such, he was skimping on his routine a little bit.

He didn't acknowledge that he knew her as the lesson started. Instead, he kept to himself at the back of the class and focused on the more religious aspects of yoga, even if the people here didn't recognize it. He fell into a heavy trance from start to finish. When he changed back to his normal clothes, he felt energized and a lot more centered, emotionally. He needed to do this more often.

Now... Storm. Felix met Storm in, ah, not the most favorable circumstances. The corn maze. She kept a level head and helped where she was needed. Felix had to admire that, and even after the maze, he thought she was a rather pleasant woman. There was a part of her that was hurt, and hidden, and that only drew him to her in hopes that maybe their shared state would help him connect with someone a little better. He walked up to her as she stood around the lounge, sheepish, with a dark blush on his face.

"Hello, Storm. It's good to see you. Do you, ah..." He fidgeted with his braid a little. "...have anything planned today? Would you like to get lunch together?"

Sometimes the meditation that came with yoga was exactly what Storm needed to keep herself calm and collected. But sometimes, it wasn’t enough. Sometimes she ended up in all the wrong corners of her mind anyway.

The holidays had been a difficult time for Storm. She had run from her clan, been found naked and covered in blood during this time by her future wife. She vividly remembered the Christmas decorations around the town she was learning to be more human. Then years later, she had married Clarisse on New Years Eve.

It had once been a happy time--but now it just seemed so incredibly lonely. On top of that, Storm had gotten herself sick right after Christmas. Between internalizing all her stress and her tendency to exercise to excess, she knew she had no one to blame but herself when she ended up with pneumonia.

It was mostly gone at that point, but the aftermath of pneumonia had a habit of lingering and taking forever to recover from. That could have well contributed to how her mind seemed to wander through all the wrong memories. And even after class had ended, she was still there. She acted completely normal on the outside, able to end the class as she always did. But inside…

The sounds of tearing flesh the metallic smell of fresh blood grunts growls snarls screaming screaming wondering what it’s like to watch as someone tears apart and eats you alive screaming screaming screaming the guilt that tears her open just like she did him

Hello, Storm. It’s good to see you.

Then she snapped out of it.

She had noticed Felix when he had first come in for the class. It was nice to see a familiar face outside of her yoga regulars—even if the circumstances they had originally met in were less than ideal. They had since met a few times in passing here and there, although they had never really sat down for a long chat. But even then, Storm sense as Felix did that the two of them were similar in some ways.

“Ah, I…” Storm considered a moment, and then nodded. “Sure, I’d like that. I have nothing else planned for the rest of the day.”

Storm picked up her gym bag and slung it over her shoulder. Yeah, her ‘plans’ for the rest of the day would have likely been wandering around her little cottage alone, staring at pictures of Clarisse and feeling sorry for herself. Going out to lunch with someone was probably a much healthier option for her.

“Did you have anywhere in particular in mind? I don't go out to eat a lot, so I still don't really know the restaurants around here that well...” Storm said. She would focus her attention on Felix now. She would try to not let her eyes become vacant again as her mind tried to crawl into all the darkest corners.

Storm said... yes! Well, she said "sure", but that was a lot more favorable than what he was originally anticipating. Caught off-guard when she asked where he wanted to go, he stared at the ceiling, blush getting dark, and hummed a bit. "...Truth be told, this was more of an impulse decision, so I didn't decide on have any real plans yet. How about a... um, oh, I know a good diner near here? I'll treat you."

He hauled his bag to his shoulders and started leading her out of the gym. Felix recognized that expression on her face, that need for a distraction so you wouldn't get dragged into a hole. He knew he appreciated levity instead of pity when he was in such a state, so he was going to... try.

"How were your holidays, Storm? Mine was... well, I got married, and then I got another cat. Surprisingly, when I clocked in for work again after the new year, there weren't any big cases on my desk. I guess the local serial killers were having a Merry Christmas this year? Although, there were a lot of people detained for intoxication. One man in a Santa costume threw a Christmas tree at his ex-wife's lawn Christmas morning and then started begging her to come back. People were taking Youtube videos!" He chuckled. As they exited the building, he looked both sides and went right towards the diner. He smiled at her. "How's Adelyn? Is she liking Netflix?"

“Oh! Well, thank you then. Sounds great,” Storm said, before following Felix out of the gym toward their destination. It was a welcome distraction—and it would be nice to get to know this person whom she fought alongside with.

“You got married? Congratulations,” Storm said with a smile, but it was hard to deny that pang of hurt that coursed through her body. God, she missed Clarisse. She wanted to move on quickly from that, so she went to the next topic, which was…murder. M-mm, not exactly ideal either, but she went on:

“I’m not exactly an expert on crime, but…serial killers tend to act like ordinary people most of the time, don’t they? Not surprising they would have plans during the holidays if they are trying to maintain a mask of sanity.”

But this was getting a little dark, wasn’t it? That wasn’t what Storm wanted for an outing, so she tried to move on again. Now it was a much easier topic: Adelyn.

“Oh, Adelyn loves the Netflix account! She watches a lot of Disney and…ah…what was the other one…Miyazaki?”

Storm pulled out her phone then, and showed Felix a selfie Adelyn took of herself. She was in her school uniform, but decked out in lots of cute star and moon-themed jewelry that made the uniform uniquely her own.

“She has discovered the art of the selfie,” Storm said with a small laugh, before turning the phone around to look at the photo herself.

“She’s been adjusting so well. I’m proud of her.”
