It was a festival, music was playing, flowers were everywhere. For many it would be the perfect time for romance, to admit one's feelings to another. For James it wasn't the time for that.

He'd arrived alone, but as if fate liked mocking him, he'd quickly found her. Klef, the girl he'd kind of fallen for. He'd only recently realized his feelings for her, but was completely convinced she didn't return the feelings.

Either way, she was a friend, so James approached her. "Hi Klef, it's good to see you," he was happy to see her, despite everything.

Klef couldn't believe it was already May, it seemed like just yesterday she was under the weather with the virus. Her sense of time had never been great, but it seemed to be getting progressively worse after losing her sight. Since then, she has been trying hard to remain independent, and apparently pushing away her friends in the process.

One of which was James, he was very dear to her for a number of reasons, and unfortunately , seemed to be the most affected. if it wasn't for him calling her out on what she has been doing the past few weeks, Klef would have never realized how unnecessary and frankly quite stupid it was to push so many away.

They were now back on somewhat good terms, or at least good enough to go to the Lilac Festival together. The music was booming and she could smell the scent of popcorn in the air, for once it felt like she didn't need to see to have a good time. Recognizing the voice, she exclaimed, " James!"

" Isn't this great?" Klef asked, the excitement was apparent on her face. " I've never been to something like this before," she commented, " do you have any clue what we're supposed to do?"

He smiled brightly, his gray silver eyes instantly shimmering. Klef brought out the real James, the one who loved life, loved being out and about, loved being around people.

"Yea it's amazing," he stepped beside her, brushing his hand lightly against hers. "I....wasn't sure if I was going to come," he smiled at her, "I'm glad you did."

A person walking by was passing out flowers, James took one with a smile and slipped it into Klef's hand. "There's stands with things to buy, food, music and dancing." He ginned a bit, "pretty much everything you can imagine."

" Hey, if I knew that there was going to be this much stuff to do here I would've came earlier! " Klef exclaimed, trying to take in what she could from the festival. Listening to such loud music was probably going to haunt her as an adult, but for the time being it was just what she needed; being no different from anyone else at the festival. " But if I came an earlier, I wouldn't have ran into you here, so I guess my timing is perfect." She told him, correcting what she said a few seconds ago. While she didn't want to stress him out more than he already was, it was nice to have James by her side too, he was the type of person who would take responsibility of their black out drunk friend and being her to her dorm. She wasn't an idiot, people could take advantage of someone blind at an event like this, at least she would be safe now.

Klef felt something in her hand, at first it was hard to tell what it was, but when she clenched it tighter she could feel a few thorns seeping into her skin. While her first instinct was to drop the rose, she tucked it into her pocket, it was sweet gesture from whoever it was, probably James, and also incredibly rude if she just left it for dead like that. "Soooooo... want to grab a bit first? I wonder what kind of weird food they have here."

"Yea I'm starving," grinning he gently took her hand, "I think I saw a stand with alien food." He lead her to one of the closer stands, "one of the best things about this place, they have things from all over."

He bought them some food, strange but good, "I've never been to anything like this before," Ashton city had no festivals, it had nothing to celebrate, just pain and corruption. "The music is beautiful," he looked to her, happy to be here with her.

His hand reached into his bag, he felt the wooden box inside, a gift for her, he'd wait a bit longer before giving it to her. "I'm happy I came...happy I ran into you."
